17:45 JoeJulian Anyone want to review a simple doc change? http://review.gluster.org/7852 http://review.gluster.org/7853 http://review.gluster.org/7854
17:45 glusterbot Title: Gerrit Code Review (at review.gluster.org)
17:45 kkeithley_ @hagarth
17:46 JoeJulian @karma
17:46 glusterbot JoeJulian: Highest karma: "joejulian" (5), "semiosis" (2), and "hagarth" (2). Lowest karma: "kkeithley" (0), "Humble" (1), and "semiosis" (2).
17:46 lalatenduM hagarth, yeah , I plan to do it this week, I think the timing is right
17:47 hagarth @ lalatenduM++
17:47 glusterbot hagarth: lalatenduM's karma is now 1
17:47 lalatenduM :)
17:48 hagarth kkeithley_: had a question or two on the cppcheck patch. Let me update gerrit.
17:48 kkeithley_ okay
17:51 lalatenduM kkeithley, saw ur comment on the stack size. wondering how you figured out the size of the stack size i.e. 16MB?
17:52 kkeithley_ the man page for pthread_create IIRC (which actually says 8MB), and empirically.
17:53 kkeithley_ pthread_attr_getstacksize(3)
17:54 lalatenduM kkeithley, ulimit -a also says 8MB
17:57 kkeithley_ The short program I wrote that created a thread, and then called pthread_attr_getstacksize() in the thread returned 16MB IIRC. But either way, 8MB or 16MB, for a max 4KB string on the stack.
17:59 kkeithley_ But I'm not "committed" to using a string on the stack, obviously a strdup()d string (versus strdupa()) just requires a teeny bit of extra logic to free() it.
18:00 kkeithley_ I can't find the program I wrote. Easy enough to write it again though
18:01 kkeithley_ and if we thought it was called frequently, maybe we should use a pool
18:01 kkeithley_ a small pool
18:01 lalatenduM JoeJulian, Have reviewed " http://review.gluster.org/7852" and have two comments
18:02 kkeithley_ come to think of it, maybe we should have a pool for all the places we have a scratch PATH_MAX-length string
18:04 JoeJulian Now wait a minute... I continue using the same crappy language structure that the original documentation uses and NOW you want me to be clear? ;)
18:04 JoeJulian ok
18:04 lalatenduM kkeithley, ur change looks fine now. I think 8MB is not constant it can increase till dynamic memory exhausts
18:05 lalatenduM JoeJulian, I can understand :)
18:06 lalatenduM kkeithley, mempool will be faster I think
18:07 lalatenduM Kainz, yes Windows ACl is supported through Samba VFS plugin
18:09 lalatenduM Kainz, I hope you are using "kernel share modes = No" for the share in smb.conf
18:10 scuttle_ joined #gluster-dev
18:17 kkeithley_ lalatenduM: now my little test program says 8MB stack on Fedora, 10MB on RHEL6
18:17 lalatenduM kkeithley, interesting :)
18:18 kkeithley_ and 8MB on RHEL7
18:18 kkeithley_ anyway.
18:28 lalatenduM kkeithley, agree
18:28 kkeithley_ indeed, a mempool ought to be faster than strdup(). The strlen() in strdupa() could be an issue wrt speed. But I'd only be worried about it if we were calling this function 1000s of times per second.
18:34 lalatenduM kkeithley, agree, specifically this change will only called when Solaris as client is used AFAIR, which is very rare
18:39 kkeithley_ hagarth: I have replied to your questions in http://review.gluster.org/#/c/7583/
