08:47 ndevos lalatenduM, Humble: you guys use gpg right? want an invite for keybase.io?
08:47 shubhendu__ joined #gluster-dev
08:56 pranithk ndevos: regarding http://review.gluster.org/9004
08:56 pranithk ndevos: We want to prevent the class of bugs which can introduce stale dentries in inode with trailing '/'. With this fix even in future if there are bad callers it won't affect the dentry table.
08:59 ndevos pranithk: dentries with a trailing "/" just sound weird to me, if something tries to create those, *that* would be a bug
09:00 ndevos pranithk: catching such a bug with a assertion does not sound too bad too me?
09:02 ndevos pranithk: your patch allows (and silently corrects) a trailing "/", it looks like a bolted-on safety-net, not a real fix
09:02 nkhare_ joined #gluster-dev
09:08 lalatenduM ndevos, yes, thanks for the invite :)
09:12 ndevos lalatenduM: where do you want it sent?
09:13 lalatenduM ndevos, my rh mail address
09:13 ndevos lalatenduM: you got it :)
09:15 lalatenduM ndevos, yes ndevos++
09:15 glusterbot lalatenduM: ndevos's karma is now 41
09:19 lalatenduM ndevos, pm
09:19 ndevos lalatenduM: sure

09:58 pranithk ndevos: sorry was away. Asserts are caught only when hit. If they are not hit, we will endup allowing it. That will be a problem

10:04 lalatenduM Humble, hagarth , any update on 3.6.1, when are we expecting it?
10:05 ndevos pranithk: oh, just responded through gerrit...
10:07 pranithk ndevos: will update
10:07 ndevos pranithk: :)
10:07 pranithk ndevos: :-)
10:13 pranithk ndevos: updated

10:43 ndevos Humble: can I persuade you from dropping your -1 on http://review.gluster.org/9033 ?
10:57 Humble ndevos, sure.. I thought we can correct in the same patch
10:58 Humble not sure who will do it later
10:58 badone ndevos: for a test case of the trailing "/" lookup I think bz1156178 may have one?
10:58 Humble ndevos, more or less , a new patch has to land only for that ... that can be avoided .. thats what I thought
11:00 badone ndevos: see comment 26
11:05 ndevos badone: thanks, but a loop like that is not very nice :)
11:05 ndevos badone: should you not be having holidays?
11:05 badone ndevos: I am and the loop wasn't my idea ;)
11:05 ndevos badone: hehe
11:07 badone ndevos: I'm just relaxing and poking around in a few places... gluster... RHS... Ceph...
11:07 badone ... and of course, C++
11:07 glusterbot badone: C's karma is now 1
11:08 ndevos Humble: wel, I do not mind the 'wrong' spaces too much, but I'll correct them when they are in a part of the code that I am touching
11:09 ndevos Humble: if you really care about them, you surely can file a bug and send patches for them, but do keep the change-sets small
11:10 Humble ndevos, i dont care :)
11:11 ndevos :)

11:32 badone ndevos: I'm writing a changelog *reader* just for my own education, in C++ of course :D
11:32 glusterbot badone: C's karma is now 2
11:33 badone glusterbot: should be higher than that. Anyone would think I was the only one giveing it karma
11:34 hagarth this is really cool .. any mention of C++ increases C's karma :D
11:34 glusterbot hagarth: C's karma is now 3
11:34 ndevos badone: interesting, but why C++ ?!
11:34 glusterbot ndevos: C's karma is now 4
11:34 * ndevos would prefer C or Python
11:34 badone ndevos: because I learn more about C++ by writing it in C++
11:34 glusterbot badone: C's karma is now 5
11:34 glusterbot badone: C's karma is now 6
11:34 badone ndevos: lol, then you write it :)
11:34 ndevos badone: you must be one of the few that likes C++
11:34 glusterbot ndevos: C's karma is now 7
11:35 badone ndevos: actually, i'm the only one ;)
11:35 ndevos badone: yeah, I think so :)
11:36 badone ndevos: go to cppcon and say that
11:36 ndevos badone: will you send it for inclusion in the sources? maybe under extras/ or xlator/features/changelog/ or something?
11:36 badone ndevos: sure, if you want me to
11:36 ndevos badone: will it have a nice QT gui too?
11:37 ndevos badone: YES! I want it :D
11:37 badone ndevos: no GUI :(
11:37 ndevos badone: oh, good!
11:37 badone lol
11:37 badone ndevos: there is already a changelog parser, it's written in Go
11:37 badone but it disn't work for me :(
11:38 ndevos Go is awkward, that must have come from KP
11:39 badone ndevos: not sure, I thought it was on glusterforge. Let me see if I can find it
11:42 ndevos badone: you dont have to, it does not work anyway - and I do not have any go packages installed on my system
11:45 badone ndevos: Aravinda, https://github.com/aravindavk/gchangelogparser
11:46 badone ndevos: it's actually written in Rust
11:47 badone ndevos: it doesn't work the way I want mine to anyway so I'll keep going with mine even though no one will use it :P
11:47 soumya_ joined #gluster-dev
11:48 ndevos badone: Rust?!
11:48 badone ndevos: ... never sleeps
11:49 badone "In theory. Rust is a work-in-progress and may do anything it likes up to and including eating your laundry. "
11:51 ndevos oh, reducing my laundry would be nice
11:51 badone ndevos: reminds me, I have a t-shirt for you. Must send that....
11:52 badone ndevos: I'll let you know when my code is ready to be ridiculed :P

14:41 kkeithley JustinClift: cards and cables going out today for delivery Wednesday. I forwarded a copy of the shipping request to you. 10 cards, 9 pairs of cables. giving you some spares, just in case.
14:43 pranithk joined #gluster-dev
14:44 pranithk ndevos: I am going with the approach you suggested. Check the latest comment.
14:46 ndevos pranithk++ much appreciated!
14:46 glusterbot ndevos: pranithk's karma is now 5
14:49 pranithk ndevos: but it is generally nice to handle edge cases when we exactly know what the caller of the api wants. But in this case it is becoming extremely confusing, I thought.
14:49 pranithk ndevos: like free of NULL. At least I like it that way :-)
14:51 ndevos pranithk: it is nice to allow edge cases, but not without complaining to - think kernel warnings with BUG()
14:52 pranithk ndevos: Oh! I don't know about that :-(. Any examples I can look into to learn more?
14:54 ndevos pranithk: have you never encountered kernel stack traces?
14:55 pranithk ndevos: I did
14:56 pranithk ndevos: I never really read them in this light. I will keep an eye out for finding these next time...
14:59 ndevos pranithk: bug 981741 hit a BUG() statement, a RHEL kernel would panic, Fedora would only wanr
14:59 glusterbot Bug https://bugzilla.redhat.com:443/show_bug.cgi?id=981741 high, high, rc, ndevos, CLOSED ERRATA, BUG on dentry still in use when unmounting fuse

15:00 * ndevos pokes glusterbot
15:04 pranithk ndevos: nice :-)
15:04 JustinClift kkeithley: 10 card, 9 cables.  Awesome. :)
15:05 JustinClift I'd better hurry up and organise the switch then. ;)
15:05 * JustinClift should have done it on wkend, but totally forgot
15:05 ndevos JustinClift: daisy chain them?
15:05 JustinClift Good luck with that
15:05 JustinClift Technically, it would work for IP.  eg using a lot of manual routing info
15:06 JustinClift But, lets just get a switch :)
15:06 ndevos hehe
15:08 ndevos JustinClift: you like gpg? want a keybase.io invite?
15:08 ndevos or anyone else that missed my offer over the weekend? ^

15:09 * JustinClift looks at keybase.io
15:09 ndevos kkeithley: btw, did you make any progress on the symbol versioning? is there anything you like me to test/check/whatever
15:13 JustinClift ndevos: Yeah, send me an invite.  That's be interesting to try out
15:13 JustinClift ndevos: You involved with it's development?
15:14 kkeithley ndevos: I'll have something in a couple hours
15:15 ndevos kkeithley: cool, let me know if you want me to do something, I can then pick it up tomorrow morning
15:15 kkeithley I'll probably put it in gerrit as an rfc

15:15 ndevos sure, works for me
15:16 kkeithley if it looks okay then I'll refile with a BZ
15:16 ndevos JustinClift: looks interesting for sure, but I'm not more involved than being a try-out user
15:17 kkeithley thought I might get to work on it over the weekend, but I was too busy
15:21 JustinClift ndevos: No worries. :)

15:37 JustinClift ndevos: Alternatively, would you be ok to send an invite to my justin@postgresql.org address? :D
15:37 ndevos JustinClift: I think so
15:37 ndevos JustinClift: I'll resend
15:37 JustinClift Thx :)

16:10 ndevos JustinClift: depends, I have no idea why I got invites
16:10 JustinClift Heh Heh Heh
16:10 ndevos JustinClift: I still have some left, in case you know someone that would like one
16:12 ndevos "some" = 2 atm
16:13 JustinClift ndevos: I've just emailed him to ask if he wants one.  Probably best to not waste them. :)

17:02 JustinClift ndevos: Would you be ok to send an invite to: msditanov@200volts.com
17:05 semiosis what is keybase.io all about anyway?
17:05 semiosis should I get on that?
17:05 JustinClift semiosis: It's on their website. ;)
17:05 JustinClift semiosis: Seems interesting, if you use GPG or PGP
17:08 semiosis so far the only use case I've seen for it is this extremely interesting distributed social network project from Edna Piranha - http://ednapiranha.com/2014/distribute-everything/ & http://ednapiranha.com/2014/rvlvvr-the-details/
17:08 semiosis so was wondering if you knew any other actual uses
17:25 JustinClift semiosis: Not yet
17:25 JustinClift Signed up because it sounds like it _might_ be useful
17:26 JustinClift So, "one way to find out" approach, etc. ;)
