06:14 kdhananjay ping ndevos; i have a test that fails consistently on centos on jenkins slave although it is passing in my machine. could you lend a centos machine for a few hours today, so i can debug this?
06:19 ppai kshlm, ping
06:19 glusterbot ppai: Please don't naked ping. http://blogs.gnome.org/markmc/2014/02/20/naked-pings/
06:19 baojg joined #gluster-dev
06:19 ppai kshlm, any idea who maintains the github mirror sync script ?
06:38 baojg joined #gluster-dev
06:40 kshlm misc, Do we need to manually setup gerrit-github sync now?
06:40 kshlm Earlier it used to happen automatically, if the gerrit project name and github repo name (under gluster) matched.
06:42 misc kshlm: that's a bit early to me to answer to it, let me see
06:42 kshlm Ok.
06:42 misc mhh if someone is already on the console, I can't connect :/
06:42 kshlm But I think it needs to be done now.
06:43 kshlm I am.
06:43 kshlm I was checking.
06:43 kshlm I'm out now.
06:43 kshlm Anyways, this changed after you set up seperate keys for pushing to different repos.
06:44 hchiramm joined #gluster-dev
06:46 misc yeah that would make sense, but I didn't knew it working differently before
06:46 misc especially since github do ask for a one different key for each repo :/
06:48 spalai joined #gluster-dev
06:48 misc I also reemember me having a patch on gerrit that I didn't sent since me and google disagreed on the practice around their CLA, since there is no way I am gonna sign a paper asking me to give my address each time I move to a different place
06:48 misc (patch that I didn't apply to our gerrit, but that would handle this)
06:49 misc kshlm: so what project need to be synced to github ?
06:49 kshlm ppai, Needed to get libgfapi-python and gluster-swift synced.
06:49 ppai misc, kshlm, it's been out of sync for quite sometime now
06:50 misc also, did we decided where should admin doc be placed ?
06:50 misc so this can be added :)
06:50 kshlm One of the reasons you added different (or was it the only reason?) was as an alternative to the github-gluster-bot account. So that pushes don't come under a users name.
06:51 kshlm But now, all pushes to the repos happen in your name. Check https://github.com/orgs/gluster/dashboard
06:51 kshlm misc, admin doc for infra?
06:51 misc kshlm: yeah
06:51 misc (yeah for both)
06:51 kshlm I didn't know we were discussing that.
06:52 kshlm I think it should be some place on gluster.org.
06:52 misc kshlm: maybe I was speaking alone :(
06:52 misc yeah, I think too
06:53 misc basically, i am not keen on using mediawiki just for that, since I think we were still discussing th faith of the wiki
06:53 misc using read the docs (or at least, gluster-docs) didn't look appropriate
06:54 rraja joined #gluster-dev
06:54 kshlm misc, we should put up a page under gluster.org/community/infra
06:54 misc kshlm: so part of the website repo ?
06:54 kshlm I think so.
06:55 misc ok
06:55 misc I will raise the topic on the ml too later today, see if people agree
06:55 kshlm I'll agree.
06:55 atalur joined #gluster-dev
06:56 misc and to go back on github, the push is under my name, which is surprising, because that's not linked that much to my account more than "I did add the key to the repo"
06:56 misc the reason to not have a bot account was to not have to manage it (ie, no password to store and share, etc, etc)
06:57 misc but I didn't anticipate that side effect
06:57 misc (and didn't see, since it doesn't even count in my stats)
06:58 kshlm I saw it sometime back, but forgot to mention it.
06:59 misc well, I also did see for the gluster infra salt/ansible
06:59 kshlm We need a better way to sync..
06:59 skoduri joined #gluster-dev
06:59 baojg joined #gluster-dev
06:59 misc (but as I am the committer, it didn't strike me as srange)
06:59 kshlm Generating new keys, adding them to the github repo and modifying gerrit is a little too complex.
07:00 kshlm And I don't think this could be automated anyway.
07:00 misc we need a more automated way for sure
07:00 misc the github part is the hardest
07:01 misc well, no, it can be automated too with the API, but that requires coding
07:01 misc and we go back to the admin credentials issue, and security around it

07:09 misc kshlm: isn't gluster-swift moved to another place ?
07:09 misc https://github.com/gluster/gluster-swift
07:12 rafi1 hmm the test resumed, but still there is a warning
07:13 rafi joined #gluster-dev
07:13 rastar rafi: checking
07:15 rastar rafi: that internal error about memory is jenkins problem.
07:15 kshlm misc, So it's either manual work, or setting up an admin account (and coming up with a proper way to secure it).
07:15 rafi rastar: ohh, I wasn't aware of that, I'm sorry
07:15 josferna joined #gluster-dev
07:16 rastar rafi: test being hung is mostly not related to jenkins issue though. It is certainly a bug in code though.
07:16 kshlm misc, Btw we still have an AI on setting up accounts, that I've kept on moving forward everyweek. https://public.pad.fsfe.org/p/gluster-community-meetings
07:17 rafi rastar: okey, thanks for your help

07:18 misc kshlm: or both, like automate everything and let repo owner do the github part ?
07:19 misc kshlm: and I totally forgot about it :/
07:19 misc I should participate to the community meeting, but it always come when i go to lunch (and not in my calendar)
07:20 kshlm Today's meeting is at 1500UTC.
07:20 kshlm So 1600CET. Should be a good time for you.
07:20 misc kshlm: nope, I have a appointement today
07:20 kshlm Ahh. Okay.
07:20 misc but usual time yes
07:21 misc in fact, i should import the calendar
07:21 misc I did that on zimbra for fedora, but this wasn't carried over and pushed that for later since forever
07:21 misc (we do have a calendar, no ?)
07:21 kshlm We have one more meeting at todays time 2 weeks later. We're trialling rotating times for the meeting.
07:22 kshlm We don't, but I try to attach an invite to the next weeks meeting in the meeting minutes I send out after every meeting.
07:22 misc mhh, we did had a project for the calendar integration, no ?
07:23 kshlm That rings a tiny bell.
07:23 kshlm We did talk about it some time way back.
07:25 misc ppai: so I did the config for libgfapi-python, not sure for the swift one, cf the fact it got moved to another org
07:26 ppai misc, gluster-swift is still in gluster org
07:26 ppai misc, swiftonfile repo is another org (openstack). They are two different repos.
07:28 ppai misc, the gluster-swift project was revived. The readme on the github landing page is outdated :(
07:28 misc ppai: https://github.com/gluster/gluster-swift mhh, so the description ?
07:29 ppai misc, Ah! yes the description needs to be updated
07:29 misc ppai: ok, will fix that after breakfast :)
07:29 misc (or if you do it, that's ok too)

08:39 misc ppai: also, you need to edit the README.md

08:39 ppai misc, that is already edited (will be fixed once the sync happens)
08:41 kdhananjay would anyone know why freebsd smoke (which is failing to compile the src in nsr-cg.c: see https://build.gluster.org/job/freebsd-smoke/12880/console) is not run on most patches and yet occasionally some patches undergo the test?
08:41 kdhananjay rastar: ^^
08:42 misc guess because we have 1 single builder
08:55 baojg joined #gluster-dev
08:57 rastar kdhananjay: Thanks for pointing this out. My guess right now is that jenkins is dropping some of the events from gerrit-trigger causing freebsd to run tests only on some patches.
08:57 rastar kdhananjay: This has been happening with other tests too, but people usually "recheck xyz" and previously dropped event does not come to notice.
08:58 kdhananjay rastar: ok the problem is that right now it fails at compilation stage whatever patches it does run on.
08:58 rastar kdhananjay: IIRC, our versions of jenkins and gerrit don't have the feature which ensures no triggers are dropped.
08:59 misc well, jenkins would for sure, that's the gerrit which do not
08:59 rastar kdhananjay: For that particular compile failure, I would say it is still nsr which needs the fix, may be ENODATA is defined somewhere else in freebsd
09:00 * kdhananjay hopes it doesn't run on her patch this time around, after resubmission.
09:01 kdhananjay rastar: yes, there is a patch by jeff: http://review.gluster.org/#/c/13625/
09:02 rastar kdhananjay: Cool, so after that patch is merged and other patches rebase over it we should see freebsd compile passing again
09:02 rastar kdhananjay: That should not be a problem though, we are not blocking anyone if freebsd reports -1
09:03 rastar kdhananjay: Gluster Build System's report on Verified flag is irrelevant
09:03 rastar we care only about CentOS review, NetBSD review and smoke basic.
09:03 kdhananjay rastar: ah! ok. i hope so. let's see.
09:04 kdhananjay rastar++
09:04 glusterbot kdhananjay: rastar's karma is now 26
09:04 rastar misc: Yup, you are right. We need both updated to get the replay missed events feature.
09:10 pranithk ndevos: hey, what is the procedure to get centos machine to debug our issue? lock the machine on jenkins?
09:10 pranithk rastar: kshlm: ^^
09:11 ndevos pranithk: yes, go to the jenkins webui and mark a slave as offline with a note
09:11 ndevos pranithk: do not take a slave where a test is running ;-)
09:12 ndevos pranithk: once done, you need to mark the slave online again
09:12 pranithk ndevos: will do that
09:13 rastar ndevos: Do you maintain a list somewhere having list of people you have given jenkins password to?
09:13 ndevos rastar: no :)
09:13 rastar ndevos: many have asked access to jenkins slave in previous days and I have redirected everyone to you
09:15 rastar ndevos: going forward, I will hand over the password with the same reminders you sent to me.
09:15 pranithk ndevos: I have been searching for that link. I think I should bookmark it. Could you give me the link please?
09:15 ndevos rastar: I still have the hope that at one point we do not need a shared password anymore, and can somehow use ssh keys instead
09:15 ndevos pranithk: what link?
09:16 rastar ndevos: me too.
09:17 pranithk ndevos: web-ui link with list of slaves

10:49 misc ppai: no idea how it work
10:50 misc or rather, i forgot how it work, I can look but I need to leave right now :/ I will look in the afternoon
10:50 ppai misc, it's okay if that's the case but I'm curious that I don't see the latest commits synced yet.

11:14 kshlm ppai, Yes. The sync only happens on an event on the gerrit git repo.
11:15 kshlm You can push directly to the github repo to do the first sync.
11:15 kshlm Anything later should just work.
11:15 ppai kshlm, cool. thanks
11:16 kshlm ppai, Do you have push permissions on the github repo?
11:16 ppai kshlm, I just got it
11:17 ppai kshlm, I'd rather wait for the sync to trigger from gerrit
11:17 kshlm That requires a git/review action to happen though.
11:17 kshlm Maybe you could try sending a dummy pull request. That should trigger replication as well.
11:18 ppai Yep, it will happen, got a few changes on review
11:18 kshlm Were the changes submitted after replication was setup?
11:18 kshlm Then it should have replicated by now.
11:18 ppai No, not yet.
11:19 ppai I didn't know that the sync was bot ways, good to know
11:19 ppai both*
11:19 kshlm It's not. Gerrit pushes to Github.
11:19 gem joined #gluster-dev
11:19 ppai But then how would me pushing to github trigger a sync ?
11:20 kshlm Push a patch for review on gerrit.
11:20 kshlm Gerrit stores patches under review in the same git repo. So a new change should update the git repo, and trigger a push to github.
11:21 ppai Oh yes. You meant push permissions on gerrit repo. I get it
11:21 kshlm I meant push on github.
11:21 kshlm If you had that, you just push all the missing information yourself, instead of waiting for gerrit to do it.
11:21 ppai Got it
11:24 poornimag skoduri, ping, can i get some reviews on upcall patches http://review.gluster.org/#/c/12995/ and http://review.gluster.org/#/c/12996/

11:38 misc kshlm: so, since using the console is a bit more annying than expected, i would like to get a new ip for dev.gluster, just to have the ssh server on port 22, any objection ?
11:38 kshlm The gerrit sshd listens on port 22 now.
11:39 misc yeah
11:39 misc but we need one for direct access
11:39 misc so i was wondering about getting a 2nd ip for that
11:39 misc like review-admin.gluster.org, or some other way
11:39 kshlm Removing that would break push/pull for almost all.
11:40 misc or we can just make the host VM a jump host
11:40 kshlm Ah, I didn't read the new IP part.
11:40 kshlm That should work.
11:40 kshlm We wouldn't even need that 2nd IP to be public.
11:40 misc yeah
11:40 kshlm We could get in from the hypervisor.
11:40 misc yep
11:40 kshlm A double-jump.

11:41 misc it was supposed to be temporary, but in the end, it take more time than planned, so...

17:44 pk1_ ndevos: Are you there?
17:45 ndevos pk1_: a little?
17:45 pranithk ndevos: hi, I see that kdhananj was asking for how to get a centos machine...
17:46 pranithk ndevos: got two IRC windows open :-/ sorry about that
17:46 ndevos pranithk: no idea, I must have arrived after that
17:46 pranithk ndevos: You were online... apparently she tried to ask you twice and both the times you did not respond...
17:46 pranithk ndevos: so the thing is her tests are failing only on the regression machine
17:46 pranithk ndevos: I mean centos
17:47 ndevos pranithk: I'm online 24x7x365, but I do set a /away message when I'm not there
17:47 pranithk ndevos: I think you didn't :-P it caused a lot of confusion...
17:48 pranithk ndevos: What can we do to run the test in the same state we generally run the build on?
17:48 ndevos I'm marked as away now too!
17:48 pranithk ndevos: oh :-(. Where do you mark it?
17:49 ndevos pranithk: depends on your client, most show something like " * ndevos Gone for the day, back tomorrow" when you ping
17:49 glusterbot ndevos: Please don't naked ping. http://blogs.gnome.org/markmc/2014/02/20/naked-pings/
17:49 ndevos uh, glusterbot, you're broken!
17:49 pranithk ndevos: I am aware of marking it in the nick. like ndevos|gone etc.
17:50 pranithk ndevos: Do they also come when we send you messages on the channel like we do now? because I do not get them...
17:50 ndevos pranithk: yeah, I do that on our internal irc where we have more irc-newbies :D
17:50 ndevos pranithk: yes, they should, but it depends on the client that you use, not all clients show the message (or it is turned off in the settings)

17:51 pranithk ndevos: She was trying to get your response. We are basically blocked on this. Her patch is not getting in because of a failure that doesn't happen on laptop.
17:52 pranithk ndevos: She/we need(s) to know how to fix this problem so that we can move forward
17:52 pranithk ndevos: I setup a meeting tomorrow at 3. You can explain this to all of us.
17:52 ndevos pranithk: I'm pretty sure I am not the only one that can help out with that?
17:53 pranithk ndevos: Well you are the only one we know... so that was the problem. So are you game for tomorrow 3pm?
17:53 ndevos pranithk: I actually have little idea how the regression tests run on the slaves, kshlm and rastar know that better than me
17:53 pranithk ndevos: oh okay. Got it
17:53 ndevos at least, I hope they do, because I would need to check it out ;-)
17:54 ndevos pranithk: we can have a look at it, but I already have something else at 15:00, I think
17:55 pranithk ndevos: okay, which time is better for you?
17:55 ndevos pranithk: 10:00 in the morning :P
17:56 pranithk ndevos: I need to tell them to get the feature pages up and ?
17:56 pranithk ndevos: I think it is too late to let them know about this
17:56 ndevos pranithk: yeah, no problem, what about 12:00?
17:57 * ndevos just sees that 15:00 is a popular time, he already has *two* meetings then
17:57 pranithk ndevos: We may not need a meeting if it is just to let them know about the procedures... I can cover them in our scrum meeting which is @12...
17:59 ndevos pranithk: I can join your scrum meeting too, and we can continue after that? if that is a 15 minute meeting that is
18:01 pranithk ndevos: yeah it is. I will call you
18:02 ndevos pranithk: ok!
18:13 ndevos misc++ and thanks for the netstat checks, I just notice your irc comments on it :)
18:13 glusterbot ndevos: misc's karma is now 15
