02:12 PotatoGim Morning, Could anyone let me know what is the meaning of reg/ereg in 'struct event_pool'? does it mean 'registered'?
02:13 BlackoutWNCT Hey Guys, I've got a cluster currently which is experiencing a mass split braining issue. Cluster is sitting on top of ZFS bricks, and I forgot to set the xattr=sa after adding new bricks. When a rebalance was done, it failed to clean up the symbolic files that are created during the rebalance.
02:14 BlackoutWNCT This is now causing me mass split braining.
02:14 BlackoutWNCT Is there a way to clear these sym files across the cluster easily?
02:14 BlackoutWNCT Or does it have to be done manually?
02:15 BlackoutWNCT For reference, the sym files I'm talking about have the permissions: ---------T
02:15 glusterbot BlackoutWNCT: -------'s karma is now -1
02:15 glusterbot BlackoutWNCT: permissions's karma is now -1
02:16 BlackoutWNCT these issues also don't get picked up on in a gluster volume heal info split-brain
02:16 BlackoutWNCT Or a gluster volume heal info

07:55 pkalever ndevos: there is 'targetcli ls' command that shows 'user:glfs' is loaded or not, but thats not built in for tcmu-runner. In case if targetcli is not installed ... ?
07:57 nbalacha nigelb++
07:57 glusterbot nbalacha: nigelb's karma is now 57
07:58 pkalever ndevos: you might want to check how it is deal-ed now https://review.gluster.org/#/c/17382/3/rpc/block_svc_routines.c@1836
07:59 pkalever ndevos: do you see any portability issues with ps ?
08:17 mchangir nigelb, thanks
08:25 ndevos pkalever|lunch: ps should be portable, but it is pretty ugly :)
08:26 ndevos pkalever|lunch: isnt targetcli a dependency too? in that case, just fail if targetcli is not installed, and do the tcmu-runner check only if targetcli is available?
08:27 ndevos pkalever|lunch: this only detects a packaging mistake, so multiple iterations of different errors about missing dependencies is fine
08:36 itisravi joined #gluster-dev
08:37 karthik_us joined #gluster-dev
08:39 pkalever ndevos: currently the order of checks are 1. check if tcmu-runner running (Mostly ensure everything is fine including targetcli installed) 2. check if glfs handler is loaded (ensure tcmu-runner include glfs handler enabled) 3. From return value of step 2, defend on targetcli not installed, 3 is worst case if something wrong with setup (very less chance)
08:41 pkalever ndevos: the ordering matters though, most common to least ...
08:48 ndevos pkalever: I dont get why the ordering matters? do not all cause failures?
08:48 pkalever ndevos: because catching the most likely failure at the first place will save time
08:49 atinm joined #gluster-dev
08:49 ndevos pkalever: but isn that optimizing for an unexpected failure case anyway? if all is installed correctly, no failures will happen, right?
08:50 ndevos pkalever: doing the check with 'ps' is really not recommended, specially not if targetcli can be used much to the same effect, but better
08:50 pkalever ndevos: adding, all installing is fine and onetime job, all daemons are running is something I'm checking first
08:51 pkalever s/all/tcmu-runner/
08:51 pkalever ndevos: it could be possible that, tcmu-runner might have crashed ?
08:52 ndevos pkalever: it could be possible tha tcmu-runner is running but is hanging as well, 'ps' wont catch that either
08:53 pkalever ndevos: good point, in that case the environment is fine, but tcmu-runner unable to respond and that will log the failure anyways.
08:54 pkalever ndevos: neither pidof will help not 'targetcli ls' will help in that case :-)
08:54 pkalever s/not/nor/
08:56 ndevos pkalever: yes, you will never be able to catch all possible errors in the environment, so keep the checking as simple as possible and dont do funky things like complex ps commands ;-)
08:57 ndevos pkalever: there are more advanced tools to verify if services are (still) correctly running, don't implement that in gluster-block
08:58 pkalever ndevos: if your concern is only about replacing ps with pidof with the package dependency, let me know, I will do that then ?

13:27 kkeithley shyam: isn't 3.8 EOL now?
13:27 shyam Nope
13:27 shyam 3.8 is EOL with 3.12
13:27 kkeithley oh, duh, right
13:27 shyam 3.11 is an STM :)
13:28 kkeithley sorry, coffee hasn't kicked in yet.

13:30 kkeithley well, I was just debating (with myself) whether to start packaging 3.11 now, and do the packaging run-thru with nigelb next week with 3.10.3

13:36 shyam Let's start 3.11 without waiting on nigelb! There is an timed blog announcement (no pressure) that goes out tomorrow at 2:00 Eastern I think ;)
13:37 kkeithley nigelb: ^^^   will you have cycles to spend sometime next week?

14:16 kkeithley I'm having second thoughts about putting 3.11.x into Fedora 26. (as per what I wrote in https://gluster.readthedocs.io/en/latest/Install-Guide/Community_Packages/#community-packages)
14:18 kkeithley Fedora 26 is about to go beta. Once it GAs it will have ~6mos before Fedora 27 and will have to update to 3.12.  I think that's a lot of churn.
14:19 kkeithley I'm wondering if I should leave it at 3.10.x for its lifetime.   Fedora 27 will get 3.11 and transition to 3.12, with luck before Fedora 27 GAs
14:19 kkeithley thoughts?
