01:19 ultrabizweb anybody using glusterfs as a webshare for nginx?
01:20 ultrabizweb looks like it has come a long way since I was using version 2
01:20 ultrabizweb and redhat took over
01:25 m0zes it has definitely come a /long/ way sing 2.0 :)
01:27 m0zes I use nginx to share some /very/ low traffic sites. I use glusterfs for my home directories on an HPC cluster, and it works admirably for that :)
01:38 ultrabizweb good deal
01:39 ultrabizweb do you just mount the directory as a gsclient or do you use nfs

02:31 m0zes I use the client. nfs doesn't give me the high availability I want.
02:35 m0zes I also use RDMA with roughly half of my nodes, I can't do that with nfs :)
02:42 ultrabizweb good to know thanks for your input
02:45 ultrabizweb I trying to get caught up watching a pretty good video about it all right now http://www.shainmiley.com/wordpress/2012/06/27/glusterfs-sys-admin-overview/

05:03 isomorphic Is there anyway to make the NFS daemon in glusterfs use kerberos 5?

09:49 peterlin Has anybody tried the "nocto" mount option for the linux nfs client with gluster? For me, it yields a x4 performance improvement with small files because it seems to do more caching.
09:53 elyograg peterlin: just looked that up.  it said that it should only be used if the data on the server changes only occasionally.
09:56 peterlin elyograg: Which is true for my use case, as well as many others I would imagine? Comparing to the kernel nfs server the difference between on and off seems to be small, but with glusters nfs server the difference is significant. Files per second read is up from around 200/s to 900/s. I do realise that writes would not be seen by other clients for a while, but perhaps in many cases thats something you can live with?
09:57 elyograg peterlin: for lots of people that will be the case.  it won't be for me. (:
09:59 peterlin elyograg: Well, there's a price to pay for everything I guess.

11:13 nissim Hello everyone
11:13 nissim JoeJulian???
11:14 nissim have a quick question, when I put the glusterfs mount entry in /etc/fstab system stop at maintenance mode, when I delete the entry system boot normally
11:15 nissim manual mount works fine. mount -a works also, just during boot I have the problem

12:39 nissim fixed the problem, pushed the mount command /etc/rc.d/rc.local while waiting for infiniband link to become active

13:50 peterlin Hmm, still problems with caching on nfs. My nfs client doesn't seem to cache lookups, stat()) a stat run on a directory (with subdirs) always take the same amount of time...
14:21 peterlin the authrefrsh value in nfsstat is increasing, one per request it seems like.
14:21 peterlin what is authrefrsh mewonders?
14:37 bauruine joined #gluster
15:15 peterlin Ah, this is weird. If I umount and then mount again, caching kicks in?
