03:51 cgkades so... i didn't get very far with the quickstart guide. I'm running CentOS 6.3 and installed glusterfs-fuse and -server as per the guide. when running service glusterd status it only shows the pid, and not any of the other information showed in the guide. I also cannot probe the other server (also centos 6.3). trying to run /etc/init.d/glusterfsd start then status, shows that its not starting
03:53 cgkades (and i probably should have asked if anyone was awake before typing all that lol)
03:53 ajm not really, better to ask a question than ask to ask a question
03:53 ajm the answer is, check logs, see why it doesn't start
03:56 cgkades i'm in /var/log/glusterfs but not really seeing anything. cli.log only shows the failed probe. and etc=glusterfs.vol.log complains about transport type rdma not installed
03:57 cgkades its looking for rdma in a glusterfs dir
04:00 cgkades oh well.

08:51 melanor9 hi everyone, i have  a question regarding volume rebuilding on 3.3.1.
08:51 melanor9 I have replica 2 volume and  1/4 of bricks got lost (thank you Hetzner.de :) and now when i try to recover from healthy   bricks, by creating  a brick directory.  It seem to start recovering , but  it puts the system on the knees, spending  99% time in futex() and doing almost no repair. I left it on for a night and it recovered next to nothing of data.
08:51 melanor9 I found  this link http://joejulian.name/blog/replacing-a-glusterfs-server-best-practice/, but its seems like its no option, since  move brick doesnt operate on offline bricks
08:51 glusterbot <http://goo.gl/1q17f> (at joejulian.name)
08:51 melanor9 any ideas ?

20:54 rdennis_ I'm looking at the `gluster` vs. `glusterfs` command line.  Older docs use `glusterfs` and the newer docs just `gluster`.  Which is right?
20:54 rdennis_ also, older docs use /etc/glusterfs/gluster{d}.vol files -- but the new `gluster` commandline just uses the commandlien to update files in /var/lib/gluster/
20:55 m0zes @daemons
20:55 TekniQue rdennis_: correct
20:56 m0zes rdennis_: gluster is the command line configuration app, glusterfs is the daemon that mounts client-side. glusterd is the config daemon, glusterfsd is the server-side brick daemon.
20:56 rdennis_ k thanks
20:56 m0zes @processes
20:56 glusterbot m0zes: the GlusterFS core uses three process names: glusterd (management daemon, one per server); glusterfsd (brick export daemon, one per brick); glusterfs (FUSE client, one per client mount point; also NFS daemon, one per server). There are also two auxiliary processes: gsyncd (for geo-replication) and glustershd (for automatic self-heal). See http://goo.gl/hJBvL for more information.
20:56 m0zes there we go :)
20:57 rdennis_ i only just discovered the nfs daemon bit yesterday -- that's a handy thing to have builtin

21:27 semiosis rdennis_: editing .vol files is deprecated since glusterfs 3.1
21:27 semiosis just use the gluster command to configure everything
21:27 semiosis you shouldn't ever have to run any other gluster commands/processes
21:27 semiosis glusterd does that
21:28 semiosis and glusterd is controlled by the gluster command
