04:35 Ryan_Lane I'm trying to fix a split brain and am having some weird issues
04:35 Ryan_Lane I'm cleaning up the files, even going as far as deleting all of them
04:35 Ryan_Lane from the client
04:35 Ryan_Lane and also on the server
04:35 Ryan_Lane but...
04:35 andrewbogott joined #gluster
04:36 Ryan_Lane when the client writes the files back, it writes files to all 4 servers
04:36 Ryan_Lane two of which are empty files
04:36 Ryan_Lane with no permissions

05:38 JoeJulian @later tell Ryan_Lane Those two empty files don't just have no permissions, but they're mode 1000 (sticky bit set). Read http://joejulian.name/blog/dht-misses-are-expensive/
05:38 glusterbot JoeJulian: The operation succeeded.

08:44 samppah :)
08:44 samppah oh sorry, mean to be :O
08:44 samppah i'm still wondering if it's possible to create glusterfs storage pool in libvirt so it would use qemu-gluster instead of fuse

16:29 samppah JoeJulian: hmm.. i have found docs how to make volume with gluster but not much info about storage pool
16:30 samppah looks like it's not supported yet and if i have understood it correctly even ovirt uses vdsm to exploit qemu gluster
16:30 JoeJulian hmm

23:25 mimocloud hey
23:26 mimocloud first-time i use irc. can somebody confirm please!
23:26 JoeJulian hello
23:26 glusterbot JoeJulian: Despite the fact that friendly greetings are nice, please ask your question. Carefully identify your problem in such a way that when a volunteer has a few minutes, they can offer you a potential solution. These are volunteers, so be patient. Answers may come in a few minutes, or may take hours. If you're still in the channel, someone will eventually offer an answer.
23:27 JoeJulian mimocloud: ^^
23:27 mimocloud Okay THX
23:27 JoeJulian That's true for pretty much all of IRC.
23:28 mimocloud okay i have some questions about GlusterFS. 1. Is it possible to use it as some sort of RAID system like Raid 5 or so?
23:28 mimocloud 2. how to scale up an existing storagePool?
23:28 JoeJulian imho, you're better off learning what GlusterFS does rather than trying to compare it to RAID.
23:29 JoeJulian Add bricks
23:29 mimocloud okay these bricks how to understand them. is a brick the same as a node?
23:30 JoeJulian No. A "node" is any network endpoint.
23:30 JoeJulian @glossary
23:30 glusterbot JoeJulian: A "server" hosts "bricks" (ie. server1:/foo) which belong to a "volume"  which is accessed from a "client"  . The "master" geosynchronizes a "volume" to a "slave" (ie. remote1:/data/foo).
23:30 mimocloud get it ;)
23:30 mimocloud okay nice
23:32 mimocloud is GlusterFS i suitable solution to mount iSCSI volumes?
23:37 JoeJulian GlusterFS is a filesystem, not a block device.
23:38 JoeJulian But if you're asking if you can use an iSCSI device as a brick, sure. I wouldn't just because of the added latency, but it's possible.
