20:32 flrichar anyone use something like dm-cache locally (client side) to speed up gluster, or do you think its not necessary?
20:34 JoeJulian Local caching on a filesystem that's shared among multiple clients scares me.
20:35 flrichar true thats a lot of caching
20:36 flrichar and locking
20:36 flrichar and...
20:36 flrichar I have an idea in my head, and hardware coming this week, then I can play with it more
20:43 H__ semiosis: I upgraded 3.2.5 to 3.3.1 and have retested that 3.2.5 upstart script works on boot, and 3.3.1 does not. I'm quite surprised by this as i did not expect a change in there (that's why i tested so late) i have this reproducable in a VM with snapshots, so can test things if needed.
20:43 semiosis did you upgrade anything else?
20:44 semiosis or i should ask, what else did you also upgrade at that time?
20:44 H__ no, just gluster. from source, but I use the upstart scripts and have disabled the init.d one
20:45 H__ obviously when i press 'S'kip on boot i can mount when I log in without issue

20:45 H__ so gluster is working fine, just something weird with the upstart scripts. But I do not understand why the gluster version seems involved

20:46 semiosis sorry something urgent just came up, bbl
20:46 H__ laters o/
20:48 mooperd joined #gluster
20:48 H__ this is on old 11.10 btw. maybe that's involved

21:12 semiosis H__: so what exactly is the problem?  glusterd starts ok but mounts hang boot?  you should be using fstab option 'nobootwait' to prevent failures from hanging boot
21:12 semiosis H__: also if it's a client problem, check the client log file, hopefully it says why it failed at boot
21:13 semiosis add the nobootwait option, clear the client log file, reboot, and pastie the failed mount attempt in the log file so i can have a look
21:13 semiosis if you want

21:18 vex will gluster do some sort of load balancing between nodes for mountpoints? I'm noticing higher use on one node than another.
21:20 vex 2 nodes, replicated. (gluster 3.3.1)
21:20 vex using the gluster client to mount ;)

21:33 semiosis vex: yes, my understanding is that glusterfs polls replicas on lookup and whichever responds first serves reads for that file.  writes go to all replaces.
21:34 vex hm, ok
21:34 vex thanks
21:35 vex any idea if it polls replicas per-lookup, or once, or something in between?
21:38 semiosis not sure
21:40 vex I found something you wrote a year ago :)
21:41 vex http://community.gluster.org/q/if-a-system-has-4-nodes-that-are-replicated-does-glusterfs-perform-reads-from-all-8-existing-nodes/

21:41 vex so.. whenever a file is opened
21:41 semiosis hmm, thats been there a year and no one has corrected it, so it must be right
21:42 semiosis ;)

22:05 elyograg @later tell jdarcy I'm a little excited about bug 914804 ... is it going to be in 3.4? The patch review looks promising, not sure how those generally go.
22:05 glusterbot elyograg: The operation succeeded.

22:22 elyograg hmm.  I tried to put swift3 in my proxy-server config file for UFO based on 1.7.4, but it says it couldn't find it.  I copied the syntax I used on the 1.4.8-based UFO.
22:22 elyograg on restart, I get this error: LookupError: Entry point 'swift3' not found in egg 'swift'
