12:44 benpi Hi everyone:)
12:45 benpi I'm evaluating using GlusterFS to store about 1 bilion small files, writing them once then service them over http with nginx.
12:46 benpi I read here and there that Gluster isn't well performing with many small files, but without more details. Is that because there may be fs wide (hence very heavy for 1B files) self healing triggering in from time to time ?
12:47 benpi or just because FUSE or Gluster readdir() implem is slow with many files ? (if so, laying the files in many subdirectories would solve the issue ?)

13:23 glusterbot hagarth: The official glusterfs 3.3 packages for Ubuntu are available here: http://goo.gl/7ZTNY -- and 3.4 packages are here: http://goo.gl/u33hy
13:26 hagarth semiosis: do we have 3.3.2qa releases in ppa as well?

15:00 NuxRo might help

15:02 NuxRo actually the second link might be more helpful for your situation

16:19 benpi NuxRo: thanks. I planned using a pool of varnish in front (but still, I'll have a long trailing queue). Using nfs client (with fscache) is an option too, but I guess I'd loose tha high availability features then(?)
16:23 benpi anyway, if the problem is triggered by stat() calls and subsequent self healing, I may just use (our hack) a webserver that just open() right away and deal with ENOENT (?)

16:56 m0zes benpi: you may want to look at --fopen-keep-cache if you are going to bypass the stat as well http://www.gluster.org/pipermail/gluster-users/2013-May/036152.html

17:02 benpi m0zes: thanks, this looks nice (though seems only available starting with 3.4, hopefully coming out soon;)

18:46 mjrosenb ok, I have lots of files that look like they are links, but don't have the sticky bit set
18:47 mjrosenb will these heal themselves, or do I need to find them all, and chmod them?

20:49 doc|holliday I've got a dir in the cluster which is owned by foo:bar and has 0350 permissions. I am member of bar, but it is not my primary group. I am able to cd into the dir, but can't list its contents. If I make bar my primary group, I can now list its contents
20:49 doc|holliday I can't figure out why
20:49 doc|holliday anyone able to help?
20:52 doc|holliday shiet... smells like bug 2296...

21:10 glusterbot Title: [BUG:2296] features/access-control: skip access-tests if the call is from fuse - Patchwork (at patches.gluster.com)
21:10 duerF joined #gluster
21:10 doc|holliday does it fix the non-primary group access problem or does it simply remove the checks?
21:12 doc|holliday I guess no one is around... :(

21:25 lbalbalba hrm. im getting a weird error on one of my gluster machines. looks like 'gluster --print-statedumpdir' is no longer a recognized option. i already deleted glusterfs, deleted the source dir, rebuyild and reinstalled gluster, and still... i havent got a clue whats wrong here...
21:27 lbalbalba and its just on one machine. same gluster git revision understands the same option just fine ...
21:28 lbalbalba on the other box ...
21:34 doc|holliday maybe different configure flags (shooting in the dark here)
21:35 lbalbalba same flags. just deleted, then copied '/usr/local/glusterfs/' and '/var/lib/glusterd/' over from the working box: still the same error.

22:16 doc|holliday I applied the above patch on the client side and that didn't do anything
22:17 doc|holliday doing the same for the servers now
22:17 doc|holliday fingers crossed
22:23 lbalbalba <doc|holliday> does it fix the non-primary group access problem or does it simply remove the checks? comments on the patch says skip the access-control checks on all fops

22:28 doc|holliday lbalbalba, I will find out soon. I had the same question, but no one replied. I am hoping that means that it lets the underlying file system do the checks
22:34 lbalbalba comments on the patch says skip the access-control checks on all fops
22:36 doc|holliday I might be SOL then... I wonder how it was fixed in later versions
22:36 lbalbalba SOL ?
22:37 doc|holliday shit out of luck :)
22:37 lbalbalba thats bad ...
22:45 doc|holliday lbalbalba, it works!
22:46 lbalbalba yeah !
22:46 doc|holliday thanks for your moral support :)
