18:58 f0urtyfive Hello, can I use gluster to maintain two copies of a file across multiple systems? IE, have 1 12 TB array running gluster as the "primary source", and then 3 seperate machines with a single 4 TB drive each to maintain a "second" copy?
19:00 stickyboy f0urtyfive: Hmmm, I don't think so.
19:00 stickyboy Well, maybe...
19:00 stickyboy Yah.
19:00 stickyboy Totally.
19:00 f0urtyfive lol
19:02 stickyboy Yeah, you'd set up the 12TB array as one brick, and the other 4TBs as an even-number of bricks (6x2?).  Then create a replica 2 config
19:03 stickyboy Should work... but I'm not sure about how efficient it would be.

19:04 f0urtyfive Was just contemplating how I coulc create an "emergency" copy of my storage array
19:04 f0urtyfive ESXi hosts have a single drive only, so I could stick a 4 TB in each
19:04 stickyboy f0urtyfive: It could probably technically work... I dunno if I'd do it though.
19:05 f0urtyfive lol
19:05 stickyboy ESXi?  Isn't that bare metal?
19:08 f0urtyfive yes, you can pass the disk through to a VM running inside
19:11 stickyboy f0urtyfive: So you'd pass the disk to a VM running Gluster?
19:11 f0urtyfive yerp
19:12 forest joined #gluster
19:12 f0urtyfive actually already tested that and it worked fine
19:12 f0urtyfive 2x esxi hosts with 2 vms running gluster on the local disk
19:12 f0urtyfive replicated fine, although ESX NFS failover pretty much doesnt work
19:13 stickyboy Cool

21:07 coredumb Hello
21:07 glusterbot coredumb: Despite the fact that friendly greetings are nice, please ask your question. Carefully identify your problem in such a way that when a volunteer has a few minutes, they can offer you a potential solution. These are volunteers, so be patient. Answers may come in a few minutes, or may take hours. If you're still in the channel, someone will eventually offer an answer.

21:07 coredumb does glusterfs support having a volume on top of tmpfs ?

21:33 Deformative Hi everyone!
21:33 Deformative I am in the process of setting up an hpc cluster.
21:34 Deformative Using htcondor for the job arbitration and glusterfs as /home.
21:34 Deformative It is a 50 node system, averaging 4 cores per node.
21:34 Deformative I am also trying to get pxe boot setup so that all the nodes boot from the same image.
21:34 Deformative Does anyone have any random bits of wisdom for me as I dive into this project?
