00:08 JoeJulian rcoup: The latter is correct. There's no need to specify the replica count if you're not changing it (and it's a bit safer not to).
00:09 JoeJulian ... safer being from a fat-finger point-of-view.
00:13 rcoup :)
00:15 rcoup JoeJulian: hmm, I get Bricks not from same subvol for replica
00:16 rcoup need to do 2 at a time? that'll be annoying
00:16 JoeJulian ~pasteinfo | rcoup
00:16 glusterbot rcoup: Please paste the output of "gluster volume info" to http://fpaste.org or http://dpaste.org then paste the link that's generated here.

00:19 JoeJulian and which 4 did you want to remove?
00:19 JoeJulian nevermind
00:20 JoeJulian Interesting...
00:24 rcoup yay, I love running into issues: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=923560

00:24 glusterbot Bug 923560: medium, medium, ---, ravishankar, ASSIGNED , remove-brick operation on distribute-replicate volume fails to start when specifying more than one replica pair
00:25 rcoup looks like I need to do 2 at a time then
00:26 JoeJulian Strange, too, in that the source looks (to my cursory overview) like that should work.
00:36 rcoup ah well :)

01:24 rhys I issued a poweroff command to a gluster brick. its part of a 2 brick set, replicated
01:24 rhys when i did so it spiked to 100% cpu on all 4 processors
01:25 rhys its sending lots and lots of data between eachother, massive reads, a bit of write
01:25 rhys and now i'm afraid to shut it off
01:25 rhys i have backups, but this is slighty disconcerning.

16:18 chirino which test method is it?
16:19 semiosis https://github.com/semiosis/libgfapi-jni/blob/existing-file-write-fails/glfsjni/src/test/java/org/fusesource/glfsjni/internal/GLFSTest.java
16:19 glusterbot <http://goo.gl/qRVte> (at github.com)
16:19 chirino yeah.. which method?
16:19 semiosis well i guess testWrite_existing is the one that's not doing its job
16:20 semiosis it returns the right number of bytes it should have written, but those bytes don't end up in the file
16:20 chirino oh I see
16:21 chirino there's no flushing needed in the glfs apis?
16:21 semiosis hmmm
16:22 chirino you could try to glfs_close between the 2nd write and the read.
16:22 semiosis how about adding a DSYNC option?
16:22 semiosis worth trying?
16:23 chirino I'd do a quick close/open first.
16:23 chirino if that works then its probably a flush problem.
16:23 chirino if not, then we need to think harder.
16:23 semiosis the way the test was written (still in master: https://github.com/semiosis/libgfapi-jni/blob/master/glfsjni/src/test/java/org/fusesource/glfsjni/internal/GLFSTest.java)
16:23 glusterbot <http://goo.gl/CscnQ> (at github.com)
16:23 semiosis did not close between write & read
16:23 semiosis and worked
16:24 semiosis that one went: create file, write, seek to beginning, read, close
16:24 semiosis all worked fine

16:26 semiosis yep
16:27 chirino that might be a question for the gluster folks.

16:39 hagarth semiosis: does the file on the brick have the right content?
16:39 semiosis thanks for taking a look
16:39 semiosis hagarth: the file on the brick only contains the bytes written to the file handle returned by glfs_creat, "hello "
16:40 semiosis hagarth: after closing the file, and opening with glfs_open, then bytes written with glfs_write don't end up in the file
16:40 semiosis although glfs_write still returns the right number of bytes written, even though those bytes dont end up in the file
16:41 hagarth semiosis: can you disable quick-read and write-behind translators in the volume and check behavior?
16:42 semiosis ok
16:47 semiosis gluster command takes for ever
16:47 haidz joined #gluster
16:48 hagarth probably related to fsyncing on volfile generation.
16:49 bala joined #gluster
16:54 semiosis hagarth: with both of those xlators disabled, same result, except that glfs_write now returns -1 when it fails to write
16:54 semiosis same "bad file descriptor" error in the logs
16:55 semiosis from the brick log: [2013-07-09 16:53:05.466328] E [posix.c:2135:posix_writev] 0-foo-posix: write failed: offset 0, Bad file descriptor
16:57 andreask joined #gluster
16:57 hagarth semiosis:  write-behind does writes in the background. Hence in the first case, app got a success to write. However, if you had done a close or fsync following the write, that would have failed.
16:57 semiosis i see
16:58 hagarth so data is consistent with whatever has been written. Now we need to debug why the second write is failing.
16:59 semiosis sounds good to me

18:14 chirino semiosis: you have to call GlusterOpenOption.init()

18:19 semiosis will push code this evening
18:19 semiosis to the forge
18:20 johnmark semiosis: yes - creating and repo and mirroring what you have on github
18:20 semiosis you got it
18:21 johnmark awesome
18:21 semiosis afk for a bit (food)
18:25 chirino semiosis: you don't need the 'private static final Library LIBRARY = new Library("glusteropenoption", GlusterOpenOption.class);'
18:25 chirino there is only going to be 1 native library.
18:25 chirino so GLFS.LIBRARY.load(); is enough
18:26 chirino and technically you only need 1 GLFS.LIBRARY.load(); call, but you don't know in which order classes are going to be used/loaded so it's safe-est to call 'GLFS.LIBRARY.load();' in all the classes that will be using the JNI calls.

19:14 semiosis chirino: so that means just the GLFS class and the GlusterOpenOptions?  or do I need GLFS.LIBRARY.load() in the GLFSTest & other users as well?
19:15 chirino classes that define JNI bindings
19:15 semiosis got it
19:15 semiosis thanks
19:15 chirino so GLFS and GlusterOpenOptions
19:15 chirino that way the native lib gets loaded when a user (or test case) first trys to use those classes.
19:16 semiosis do I need @JniClass on GlusterOpenOptions also?
19:16 semiosis i'm missing that currently
19:16 chirino Yeah I think you do.
19:20 semiosis success \o/
19:20 semiosis definitely need the @JniClass
19:21 semiosis without it i get UnsatisfiedLinkError
19:25 semiosis merged the failure branch back into master & pushed the improvements to github
19:26 semiosis now back to work
19:26 semiosis thanks again chirino & hagarth!
19:26 chirino woot
