15:40 Maskul hey guys, i have a question regarding translators, how do you enable translators on the client side?
15:44 semiosis translators are internal components of glusterfs, you shouldnt need to worry about them for normal use
15:44 semiosis basically, most commands you execute with the gluster cli cause xlators to be configured
15:44 semiosis xlators do all the work internally, client & server side
15:45 semiosis if you're curious, you can see the "volume graph" -- the name of the stack of xlators being used -- by looking in the .vol files in /var/lib/glusterd/vols for one of your volumes
15:46 semiosis the -fuse.vol file is the client stack, that file is sent to the client at mount time, and causes the client to load the specified xlators
15:46 semiosis Maskul: ^
15:46 semiosis you can use 'gluster volume set help' to see the main options available to you to configure xlators, and if you're brave you can even mess around with the ,,(undocumented options)
15:46 glusterbot Undocumented options for 3.4: http://goo.gl/Lkekw
15:48 Maskul the performance translators says it needs to be configured on both the server and the client, but in reality there is no need to configure them on client side?
15:54 semiosis where did you read that?
15:55 Maskul on the performance translator page
15:55 Maskul "All of the performance translators work when loaded on both the client side and server side. " could be i'm misinterpreting it tho, in that case my apologies
15:55 semiosis link?
15:56 semiosis i dont mean to be evasive, but i could give a better answer if i read what you're reading
15:56 Maskul http://gluster.org/community/documenta‚Äčtion/index.php/Translators/performance
15:56 glusterbot <http://goo.gl/ikBtj> (at gluster.org)
15:57 semiosis ok got it
15:58 semiosis so you should read that page to understand what different xlators do, not for instructions how to use them
15:58 semiosis instead, see the gluster volume set command i mentioend above and the undoc options link too
15:58 semiosis thats how you should set up xlators
15:58 semiosis gluster cmd knows where to put them, client or server side
15:59 semiosis manually editing volfiles is not recommended
15:59 Maskul ah okay, will check it out
15:59 Maskul thank you for your help, it's highly appreciated :)
16:00 semiosis yw

16:32 Maskul semiosis, do you happen to know if it makes any sense to have both configured: posix.o-direct and write-behind.cache-size ? or does one nullify the other?
16:36 semiosis no idea, i usually just leave things default
