01:03 john1700 Is there a good way to shut down a master gluster volume that is set up to geo-replicate without having it do a final sync to the slaves?  I have an issue where an application wrote significant amount of data on the slave volumes, and now if any change is made to one of those directories on the master, it overwrites the data on the slaves.  I am working on getting these applications to be more well-behaved and write to the
01:03 john1700 proper places, but in the meantime, I don't want the data to be wiped when I stop the geo-replication master volume.

01:42 john1700 does anyone have any ideas about how I can kill the geo-replication without it running a final sync?  My next best idea is to just throw up a firewall that blocks the master from the slaves...

09:08 andrewklau Thanks, I think that was the issue. I managed to do it in a different trial and error way, backed up and removed  /var/lib/gluster/vols and that allowed glusterd to start. Did a peer probe and restored the vols folders

13:22 thanasisk and increase overall capacity I guess?

19:02 l0uis semiosis: back, sorry.
19:02 l0uis semiosis: i'm curious as to the state of the 3.4 packages for ubuntu 12.04
19:02 glusterbot New news from resolvedglusterbugs: [Bug 953694] Requirements of Samba VFS plugin for glusterfs <http://goo.gl/v7g29>
19:03 l0uis semiosis: things work, but as you say the upstart script for mounting is missing and i also noticed that the package does not create the log directory on client only installs
19:04 semiosis upstart script for mounting is not missing, afaik.  i moved it to the client package with a small modification
19:05 semiosis does package need to create log dir?  client doesnt create it at mount?  what happens instead?
19:05 l0uis semiosis: hm. i installed the 12.04 64 bit package, no upstart script was included. i also downloaded the package and extracted it to see what was up and didn't see it.
19:05 l0uis yes the package seems to need to create the log dir. if a mount fails, gluster complains that it can not open the log file
19:05 semiosis where'd you d/l from?  my ,,(ppa) ?
19:05 glusterbot The official glusterfs packages for Ubuntu are available here: 3.3 stable: http://goo.gl/7ZTNY -- 3.4 stable: http://goo.gl/u33hy
19:05 l0uis yeah
19:05 semiosis hmm
19:06 l0uis i also downloaded the 3.3 deb, and saw that it does included the upstart script and it also creates the log directory
19:06 l0uis so it apperas to be isolated to th 3.4 deb. i only checked the precise build for amd64
19:06 l0uis you have a note on the 3.4 ppa that the upstart script isn't being installed anymore
19:08 semiosis ok thanks for the info
19:08 semiosis will see if i can get an update out in the next day or two
19:09 l0uis k thanks!

22:07 MugginsM Hi, I've got a fairly stressed gluster replica pair, any hints on diagnosing/tuning?
22:07 MugginsM seems to be bottlenecking on CPU
22:08 MugginsM 10:1 read:writes, as far as I can see
22:11 MugginsM also any way of resetting the stats on volume top/profiler
22:11 MugginsM cos I want to know what's happening recently, not in the months since it started :)

22:47 MugginsM ok figured out how to reset them, getting some crazy numbers from  volume top  though :-/
22:47 MugginsM 7000 "opens" in 60 seconds or so for a file that really shouldn't accessed all that much
23:16 MugginsM yeah, totally bottlenecked on CPU
