13:03 dinosaurvskitten is it just me, or is gluster forge's login system glitchy right now? Logging in just redirects to the login page again with no error message, and the 'forgot password' page doesn't seem to actually send emails out.
13:12 NuxRo they should switch to gitbucket :-)
13:19 hagarth dinosaurvskitten: even I have experienced that behavior with 'forgot password' in the past
13:20 hagarth dinosaurvskitten: let me know your username and I can attempt a password reset from the admin dashboard
13:24 dinosaurvskitten hagarth: thanks, just /msg'd it

13:34 sohoo hi all, we run into some isues with ext3 filesystem and need to upgarde a replica set (2 servers) to XFS. each has 4 disks/bricks. whats is the best way of replacing a node. i mean take 1 offline upgrade it format all to XFS(same directory structure) then im not sure what is best from now.. working with replace-brick or just use the same hostname/ip and let gluster replicate all back to it
13:35 glusterbot New news from newglusterbugs: [Bug 1031380] If it is used as a filesystem Btrfs, it's impossible to create hardlinks in subvolumes. <http://goo.gl/CV86Or>
13:35 sohoo it will be XFS
13:36 sohoo XFS replacing EXT3
13:36 sohoo and a OS kernel upgarde as well
13:36 samppah sohoo: are you goin to replace whole node or just reformat the brick?
13:37 sohoo all, OS upgrade
13:37 samppah it's possible to bring node down, format brick, bring it back up and let glusterfs heal files
13:39 samppah just to b sure.. what version you are usig?
13:39 samppah using
13:39 sohoo it will be new OS as well same hostname/ip so UUID will be updated as well. but i wonder if its the best option i know its very heavy IO oparation while replace-brick is much better in terms of IO
13:39 sohoo version 3.301
13:40 samppah reinstall of os?
13:41 sohoo yes, as well.. new kernel the all thing
13:42 samppah ok
13:43 badone joined #gluster
13:44 sohoo just to make sure, im bringing the new OS back. format etc.. same structure as beofr.. update the UUID(on var/lib/glusterd/peers then run peer probe from the new server to any other live servers then trigger self-heal.. that sounds currect?
13:47 samppah i think this is comparable to replacing dead node.. im not sure if there is a neat way to do it
13:48 sohoo samppah: thanks. you happen to know good wiki of replacing a 3.3 node i can only find 3.2 just to make sure its the same

16:10 hargut Hello
16:10 glusterbot hargut: Despite the fact that friendly greetings are nice, please ask your question. Carefully identify your problem in such a way that when a volunteer has a few minutes, they can offer you a potential solution. These are volunteers, so be patient. Answers may come in a few minutes, or may take hours. If you're still in the channel, someone will eventually offer an answer.

16:40 Quantum` I'd like to set up a cluster using oVirt and Gluster, but can't find the first step anywhere.
16:40 Quantum` It appears that I install oVirt right on the iron, which I -think- installs KVM, but I can't find any proof of that, and know that you can't just install oVirt like an OS.
16:46 jbrooks joined #gluster
16:47 samppah Quantum`: do you want to use ovirt to manage gluster volumes or use gluster as vm storage?
16:48 Quantum` samppah: The latter.
16:49 samppah Quantum`: okay, currently there is oVirt node, which is kind of oVirt distribution based on Fedora 19
16:49 samppah another option is to install Centos or F19 and add it as host to oVirt engine, it will then install all necessary packages
16:49 Quantum` O.
16:50 Quantum` I'm not impressed at all by Fedora, most especially their community, so it looks like it'll be CentOS.
16:51 Quantum` So I'd install a minimal CentOS, then oVirt and Gluster?
16:52 samppah yes, you also need oVirt engine. That's a management console for oVirt
16:52 samppah it can be installed on CentOS (and F19) aswell
16:53 samppah http://www.ovirt.org/Quick_Start_Guide
16:53 glusterbot Title: Quick Start Guide (at www.ovirt.org)
16:54 samppah also #ovirt at irc.oftc.net is better place  :)
16:54 samppah (for ovirt specific questions)
16:54 Quantum` Kool, thanks samppah.  I did ask on #ovirt, but I guess my questions were so basic they didn't get them.
16:55 samppah Quantum`: oh, that's a pity.. are you sure you are on correct server?
16:56 Quantum` oftc.net... it was Saturday though, so only a narrower crowd.
16:56 samppah true.. it's pretty quiet every where during weekends :/
16:58 Quantum` samppah: In my LAN I have only three nodes: laptop, HomeTheaterPC, and backups server.
16:59 Quantum` The backups server is an Atom, without virt extensions, so I guess it can't participate in my cluster?  Even though it has 8TB of disk?
17:00 samppah what's your main goal, what do you want to do?
17:00 Quantum` Just doing this to learn.
17:01 samppah okay.. you can install glusterfs server on it and store vm images into it
17:01 Quantum` O.
17:01 Quantum` So it would be contributing to the storage pool?
17:01 samppah yes
17:02 Quantum` My HTPC and laptop do have virt extensions, so will comprise my cluster.
17:03 Quantum` Each has its storage, but I need to be able to detach the laptop to carry it with.
17:03 Quantum` Is it possible to make this storage detach easily from the Gluster brick?
17:04 samppah not really, i think it's just better to use it as client
17:04 samppah but i'm really not sure if that's a good use case with ovirt
17:05 Quantum` K.  For the other two systems, their drives run zfsonlinux pools.  Would these make Gluster storage without changing from ZFS to something else?
17:05 geewiz joined #gluster
17:07 samppah Quantum`: iirc there was some problems with zfs and extended attributes, but I haven't followed if that has been fixed
17:08 samppah however it's possible to use them.. just be aware that there may be problems
17:12 Quantum` So on the laptop (as client, since storage is detachable), would I still install CentOS+oVirt then the VMs, or would I install Debian right on the iron?
17:15 samppah Quantum`: i'd recommend CentOS and you also need one host with oVirt Engine..
17:15 samppah although there is also all in one install possibility
17:15 samppah but I haven't tested that personally so can't say much about it
17:15 samppah all in one has engine and vm's in same host
17:16 calum_ joined #gluster
17:16 samppah but I think it's better to move this conversation to #ovirt :)
17:17 Quantum` I'll try there again.  Thanks.
