00:13 darin with gluster, is it possible to make it write files commonly accessed to SSDs and things that arent read often to normal HDDs?
00:14 darin my understanding with gluster is that it distributes data across multiple systems for "node" data redundancy?
00:14 JoeJulian Sure. Make two volumes, one backed with ssds and the other with hdds. Write the common stuff to the ssd volume and the others to the hdd volume.
00:14 JoeJulian @glossary
00:14 glusterbot JoeJulian: A "server" hosts "bricks" (ie. server1:/foo) which belong to a "volume"  which is accessed from a "client"  . The "master" geosynchronizes a "volume" to a "slave" (ie. remote1:/data/foo).
00:14 JoeJulian @mount order
00:14 glusterbot JoeJulian: I do not know about 'mount order', but I do know about these similar topics: 'mount server'
00:14 JoeJulian @brick order
00:14 glusterbot JoeJulian: Replicas are defined in the order bricks are listed in the volume create command. So gluster volume create myvol replica 2 server1:/data/brick1 server2:/data/brick1 server3:/data/brick1 server4:/data/brick1 will replicate between server1 and server2 and replicate between server3 and server4.
00:15 darin ok, i was kind of hoping that gluster would be able to do this as i didnt want to have to manually do it
00:15 JoeJulian Would you like a pony too? ;)
00:15 darin lol, sure, is that included?
00:16 JoeJulian Hehe
00:16 darin haha
00:16 darin well

00:16 darin iw as watching this nutanix demo and their systems do what im explaining.
00:16 darin oh ok i'll read that

00:37 darin haha
00:40 social darin: shouldn't FS or something do that for you? I mean btrfs should be able to use ssd and hdd as an subvolumes and you should be able to specify preferences
00:40 social not sure if it isn't just some round robin optimalisations
00:42 darin not sure, thats why i was asking. if the fs knows the different hdd types and can store files based on frequency of use
00:42 darin or if you can specify where to store files based on frequency of use, etc
00:42 darin im jsut getting into this stuff so finding out a lot of new things
00:42 darin well, new to me i should say
00:46 social Hot data tracking and moving to faster devices (currently being pushed as a generic feature available through VFS)
00:46 social in btrfs
00:47 darin is btrfs able to group hdd's from multiple servers as 1 liek gluster?
00:47 social I mean yeah gluster should have extended DHT and so on but for server setup this sounds like something for lower level :)
00:47 darin storage pool
00:47 social yes but it does not have the hot data tracking yet
00:48 darin hmm, ok, maybe this is what nutanix is using then
00:48 social hmm maybe it has http://lwn.net/Articles/515636/

01:58 wrale-josh Having an issue that I'm considering opening a bug about, but I want to be sure it's not just me being dumb.  Six gluster nodes.  Just installed 3.5b3.  Did a peer probe of the other five nodes from the first node.  Did a peer probe of the first node from the second node.. After that all showed connected to all peers and localhosts. (cont.)
02:00 wrale-josh I set up my volumes, which are working well.  I'm using replica 3.  I mounted using 'gluster' format and backup vol file option in /etc/fstab. (on all six nodes).. Created a file on n6.. Observed it on n2.. Rebooted nodes one and two..(cont.)
02:01 kam270_ joined #gluster
02:01 wrale-josh gluster pool list showed n1 then n2 going disconnected.. I opened and updated the file on n4.. then on n3.. all was good.. then, i awated the nodes' return.. (cont.)
02:02 wrale-josh After waiting a bit.. gluster pool list showed connected for all _on_ all except n4, which still shows n1 as disconnected.. (even when n1 shows n4 as connected)
02:03 wrale-josh Looking at the vols file for n1 shows status=3, which is the same for all hosts.. seems to be the success state.. why showing disconnected?  Should I expect to need to manually re-add nodes (or otherwise take action) after a node returns from reboot (for example)?
02:04 wrale-josh (looking at that file on n4)
02:05 wrale-josh (iptables are down)

06:48 ColPanik I don't think it's split brain, because the two lists of mismatches don't overlap.

23:20 elyograg this one is too many levels.  It does eventually get there, but it's got a couple of levels of indirection too many.
