05:06 Excolo Hey, I have a quick question
05:06 Excolo So my new company started using gluster, and are having issues. I was asked to take a look because i had used gluster at my previous job.
05:06 Excolo As far as I know, writing directly to the storage locations of the bricks, and not through a mount of gluster, is a serious issue and can cause split brains am I right? or is that no longer the case (because this is what they're doing)

06:48 Jamoflaw Excolo that is what I understand as well, I think it breaks it due to lack of xattrs or any hard links in the .gluster folder. I'm quite new to it myself though that's just my obs from using it so far :)
06:50 Excolo Yeah, I found a few posts since saying not to do it, and told the higher ups here that, and linked them to the relevant documentation I found
06:50 Excolo Thanks for the reply though
06:50 Excolo i know its late

12:35 Frank77 Does anyone know what does the following message mean : "Failed to initialize IB device" ? I have the impression that this is what causes long initializations of my gluster node (about 10 mins ...). I can't find such error messages on the other one.

13:11 Frank77 I also noticed the following error "RPC program not available" followed by "rpc actor failed to complete successfully".
13:16 Frank77 Here is the log file http://fpaste.org/127974/08799687/. It took about 8/9 mins to start.

13:59 Frank77 I was wrong. I have the same issue on the two nodes.

14:42 Frank77 I found what was going on. I just had a bad entry in my /etc/resolv.conf file. I've never used hostnames in my gluster configuration files. I don't know why it tries to do dns requests. Anyway, I just removed all dns entries and now it starts in less than 10 seconds.
14:48 Frank77 I had a completly different question though, how are exactly handled write operations. What happens in a replicated volume when one of the two servers is much faster than the other ? 1st : 15MB/s and the 2sd 240 MB/s.

20:17 vcauw hello all, i'm trying to interprete the values of a gluster profile
20:17 vcauw does anyone have any reference material?
20:18 vcauw it feels like performance is quite shabby, especially when opening folders, but i'd like to understand the numbers

22:46 triad09252 If have a gluster cluster consisting of 3 servers with a disturbed volume - if 1 server goes down,  what is the best way to take that server down?
