14:08 TrDS hi, i have questions regarding gluster performance... setup is a distributed volume with all bricks on the same machine, also mounted on the same machine via fuse layer... when reading files from a brick directly, i'm limited by the network (~110MB/s) with a cpu usage of ~70% on one core... reading the same file using the glusterfs mount transfer speed is limited at ~70MB/s with both cpu cores at 100% usage, about 80% glusterfsd (brick?), 30% smbd, 90% glust
14:09 TrDS (gluster version 3.5.2)

14:19 gothos and what are your questions?
14:27 TrDS "1. is this expected? 2. if yes, why?"

15:48 gothos TrDS: you meant you are limited by the HDD in the case of the 110MB/s since everything is on the same host
15:49 TrDS i'm reading over network using samba, 110MB/s is about the limit of the gigabit link
15:51 gothos still, the gluster fuse layer creates measurable overhead
15:51 gothos especially when doing small block transfers etc.
15:51 TrDS it's a single huge file
15:51 gothos try with ~1MB blocks
15:51 gothos doesn't matter
15:52 gothos just because a file is huge doesn't it will be transfered in big chunks, that depends on the program doing the transfer
15:52 gothos *doesn't mean
15:52 TrDS so it means tuning samba in my case...
15:53 TrDS i'm going to search for options there... you think that's also the reason why the brick process eats so much cpu?
15:53 gothos don't know since I don't really get your setup
15:55 TrDS the setup is comparing the two chains (samba -> glusterfs mount -> brick) vs (samba -> brick direct)... i'm glad to give you additional details if you want...

20:03 JoeJulian TrDS: 1. use the libgfapi vfs in samba. 2. If you're doing operations directly on the brick, you may be breaking gluster.
20:30 samppah JoeJulian: hello, i saw that you mentioned earlier about memory leaks in 3.4.. do you have bug id?
20:34 ndevos samppah: I think that would be bug 1127140
