00:37 rcampbel3 what ports does glusterfs-client need open to glusterfs server?

00:46 partner ~ports
00:47 partner ,,(ports)
00:47 glusterbot glusterd's management port is 24007/tcp (also 24008/tcp if you use rdma). Bricks (glusterfsd) use 49152 & up since 3.4.0 (24009 & up previously). (Deleted volumes do not reset this counter.) Additionally it will listen on 38465-38467/tcp for nfs, also 38468 for NLM since 3.3.0. NFS also depends on rpcbind/portmap on port 111 and 2049 since 3.4.
00:47 partner pfew, i never remember those..
00:48 partner rcampbel3: so management plus all the brick ports you have up and running, plus any additional ones from the previous list you might have in use
00:49 partner each brick is +1 to brick port
00:51 partner if unsure check from any of the gluster servers for example with "gluster volume status all" which will list the bricks with the port numbers

01:01 rcampbel3 Thanks. So, on clients, if I'm using glusterfs-client and not using NFS, I shoudl only need 24007/tcp 24008/tcp

02:04 JoeJulian The clients connect to all the bricks, so the brick ports need to be open too.
02:06 rcampbel3 @JoeJulian - thanks. I'm testing in AWS - have 2 node glusterfs 3.4.2 in private subnet in security group with above ports open. Aha! I got confused about where the "incoming" traffic needs to be set -- it's on the server security group, not the client security group

02:37 rcampbel3 ok... now I'm cooking. Question: I copied data to a server brick volume directly after I set up the cluster. Now I see that it doesnt' get replicated. Is there any way to force data in a brick to replicate?
02:38 JoeJulian 1) bricks are for glusterfs' consuption, not user. 2) "gluster volume heal $volname full" might work.
02:39 JoeJulian If you need to write to your volume from the server itself, mount the client on it.
02:49 meghanam joined #gluster
02:56 rcampbel3 @JoeJulian: thanks. got it. volume heal $volname full didn't work, but now I know how to properly add data. I'll do it from the client side later. Also, happy I found the bash autocomplete file :)

16:48 cfeller JoeJulian: So I traded a few emails with Sahina on the glusterfs-nagios repo that we discussed two days ago.
16:48 cfeller He acknowledged that the repo is out of date and will get it updated.
16:49 cfeller The upstream repo is at: http://review.gluster.org/#/admin/projects/gluster-nagios-common
16:49 cfeller http://review.gluster.org/#/admin/projects/gluster-nagios-addons
16:49 cfeller http://review.gluster.org/#/admin/projects/nagios-server-addons
16:49 cfeller those three repos ^
16:50 JoeJulian All three? Ugh.
16:50 cfeller I told him that I had looked at those, but when I built RPMs based on the spec files, that the version numbers were significantly lower than what was in the RHS repos.  He said that is because they had been bad about updating the spec files upstream.
16:50 cfeller (and yes all three.)

17:05 cfeller just to be clear - the upstream source repos are the three git repos at review.gluster.org - the only issue there is the lack of update to the version or git tag.  The yum repo at download.gluster.org will stay the same and Sahina will get that updated.
