13:25 dgandhi I have a 30 Brick distributed volume over 3 nodes with ~5TiB of MiB range files, when I run du it takes about 5 hrs, but time tells me that the user/sys time is < 1min, so presumably fuse "io wait" for gluster accounts for 99.9+% of the time. Is this expected, or is it likely I configured something wrong?

15:13 JarekG hi, I wonder if anyone could help me. I'm looking for a storage cluster solution and found glusterfs quite interesting. However my scenario complicates few things and would like to get some answers.
15:14 JarekG my hard drives are going to be presented out via SAN. so for example I have a single hd presented to multiple storage nodes which will wrap it using glusterfs... in this scenario I don't need a replication I just need a cluster aware file system with load balancing.
15:14 JarekG can anyone tell me if glusterfs is something what will do that for me ?
15:15 JarekG because I found it useful if I would have multiple hard drives mounted across the plaftorm and replicate the data across that platofrm. in my case this is not needed.

15:24 JoeJulian JarekG: I'm not sure what you mean by load balancing. The distributed hash translation allows for a statistically even distribution of files among bricks. If you have a statistically even consumption or production of files then it would potentially load balance in that sense.
15:26 scuttle|afk joined #gluster
15:26 JarekG JoeJulian: I haven't gone that far yet to be honest but in my understanding load balancing is if I will have 100 clients (web servers) accessing the backend storage (GlusterFS) that I expect all the file system requests will be distributed across the cluster keeping all nodes busy not just one.

21:38 ZakWolfinger Hoping someone can help me out here.  Created a gluster replica set using simple host names ( file01 and file02 ) which were in the /etc/hosts file.  Now I want to change them to the FQDNs so I don't have to keep hosts files up-to-date on client servers.  Gluster.org and google have been no help.   Can anyone help me out?

21:52 JoeJulian ZakWolfinger: ^
21:52 ZakWolfinger Hi, I'm still here
21:53 JoeJulian I was out in the DC doing my own job. :P
21:53 ZakWolfinger LOL.  I understand.
21:54 JoeJulian There are two ways of doing this. The "supported" method is to delete the volume, probe each host using its fqdn, then recreate the volume with the bricks in the same order they were previously.
21:55 ZakWolfinger doing it that way, wouldn't I need to restore the data?  I'd rather not spend the time to copy 66G of data if I don't have to.
21:55 JoeJulian The unsuppored method is to stop the volume, do a sed replacement of the hostname down the tree in /var/lib/glusterd on all the servers, then start the volume again.
21:55 JoeJulian No. No data loss would occur either way.
21:56 ZakWolfinger awesome!  I'll give it a shot.  Thanks!
22:02 JoeJulian You're welcome.
