09:33 glusterbot HemanthaSKota: Despite the fact that friendly greetings are nice, please ask your question. Carefully identify your problem in such a way that when a volunteer has a few minutes, they can offer you a potential solution. These are volunteers, so be patient. Answers may come in a few minutes, or may take hours. If you're still in the channel, someone will eventually offer an

12:14 Anant it works
12:14 Anant compute1:/gvol01       /opt/data               glusterfs defaults,_netdev,loglevel=WARNING 0 0
12:14 Anant but I want to mount it using volume file
12:15 Anant So it I tried " /etc/glusterfs/datastore.vol    /opt/data       glusterfs rw,allow_other,default_permissions,max_read=131072 0 0"
12:15 Anant then run " mount -a "

12:38 vanshyr as far as i know, the /etc .vol file contains the configuration of the volumes if you want to mount a file that uses the gluster pool you should create a files in the glusterclient and then you can mount it or exporting it as block device with iscsi for example
12:39 vanshyr the first line you wrote is correct is telling to connect to server 1 and ask for the volume called gvol01, the second one doesnt make any sense

12:58 Anant ndevos: Thanks for help , but in this document it is mounting gluster using "mount -t glusterfs server1:/gv0 /mnt"
12:58 ndevos Anant: yeah, that is the advised way of doing things
12:58 Anant but I want to mount gluster using /etc/fstab  with help of volume file
12:58 Anant ok
12:59 ndevos Anant: you can use /etc/fstab too, but there is hardly a good use-case for mounting using a volume file
12:59 Anant ok ndevos
12:59 Anant you guys are expert
12:59 Anant if you think so
12:59 Anant it is good
12:59 vanshyr Arant, yes you mount the glusterfs as you have in the line 1, then you can create a file inside as a container with dd command for example
13:01 Anant So if i use the following , is it fine ?
13:01 Anant compute1:/gvol01        /opt/data               glusterfs defaults,_netdev 0 0
13:02 shyam joined #gluster
13:03 ndevos Anant: looks good to me, you could add "backupvolfile-server=compute02" to the mount options too
13:03 vanshyr yes, you can just write on fstab -> compute:/gvol01 /opt/data defaults 0 0
13:04 vanshyr if you want to try different nodes for mount point in case the fist fail you can add the option ndevos told you
13:05 vanshyr for to mount a file as a block device as i was telling you before you can check this: http://gluster.readthedocs.org/en/latest/Administrator%20Guide/GlusterFS%20iSCSI/

13:34 glusterbot Title: gist:76194321de49f86034f0 · GitHub (at gist.github.com)
13:35 veleno or else, if you know how I should prepare an AMI image properly so that once it is cloned and instantiated, the glusterfs don’t show with the same UUID
13:36 ndevos Anant: yes, once mounted the client knows about all servers that provide bricks - it is only the time of mounting that is crucial and can have fail-over with the backupvolfile-server option
13:36 veleno the glusterfs /deamons/
13:36 Anant ndevos: you are right

13:37 Anant time is crucial point here

13:38 Anant so is there any way to reduce it
13:38 Anant ?

13:55 ndevos ~ping-timeout | Anant
13:55 glusterbot Anant: The reason for the long (42 second) ping-timeout is because re-establishing fd's and locks can be a very expensive operation. Allowing a longer time to reestablish connections is logical, unless you have servers that frequently die.

19:31 Node_548 any idea how to copy hdfs to gluster?
19:31 Node_548 i am following traditional way of copying, but it takes days and weeks

19:33 Node_548 any idea how to copy hdfs to gluster?

21:46 veleno hello everyone. i’m evaluating the performances of gluster in a quite extreme scenario, with 9 bricks deployed across 3 distinct AWS regions (us-west-1, us-west-2, and eu-west-1). the bricks form 1 volume with replication factor 3 : https://gist.github.com/vschiavoni/b06b8bfcdb9de5d63116

21:46 veleno I also have 9 clients , 3 in each of the regions, that simultaneously mount same volume
21:46 JoeJulian That shouldn't perform all that great.
21:47 veleno it doesn’t….
21:47 JoeJulian You win!
21:47 veleno it works, but it’s very slow.
21:47 JoeJulian It's the east/west latency.
21:47 JoeJulian We still don't have quantum teleportation networks (unfortunately).
21:49 veleno but when I say slow..i mean slow :-( i have a set of benchmakrs that I use to evaluate this deployment. the one i’m doing now untar a .tgz archive (the httpd web-server), runs ./configure and ./make
21:49 veleno i understand GlusterFS was probably not meant to be used like this
21:50 veleno i simply want to know if there are performance tips I could adopt to speed things a little bit
21:51 veleno i’m also r3.large for the storage nodes and c3.large for the clients…so all this is starting to be a bit expensive to evaluate :-)
21:51 JoeJulian Write ops are going to be synchronous, so they're just going to amplify latency, as will every lookup() which happens when establishing a file descriptor. If you can keep files open and just read a lot, that should be reasonable.
21:53 veleno to give you an idea, the ./configure for httpd took, in this deployment, 27m37.751s
21:54 JoeJulian http://www.gluster.org/community/documentation/index.php/Features/new-style-replication should do better for that design when it's ready.
21:56 veleno JoeJulian: thaanks for the pointer
