01:35 ir8 Hey guys I have a issue where partitions are matching all.
01:36 ir8 I have cluster with replica 3 configured and my partitions are roughly 12gb off.
01:36 ir8 How do I correct this by chance?

02:20 JoeJulian ir8: Are you sure that's a problem?

09:54 ndevos bluenemo: NFS over localhost can not support locks, and Gluster/NFS does not support UDP for the I/O path
09:57 csim mhh, nfs over non localhost do support lock ?
09:57 RameshN_ joined #gluster
09:57 csim always tought that was why we couldn't have svn over nfs or something like this
09:58 bluenemo just found this here https://lwn.net/Articles/595652/
09:58 csim (but maybe that's the goal of lockd, now I think of it... )

09:59 bluenemo hmpf
09:59 bluenemo thats not nice
09:59 ndevos csim: sure, file locks should just work, but some apps use locks in memory, not on files (sqlite does that I think, maybe svn too?)

10:00 bluenemo I manage a webroot on two gluster rep servers. the developers want access via FTP to the files, so I just setup a ftp server there and mounted the gluster volume via NFS to one of the gluster servers, exporting that via FTP
10:00 bluenemo So if this is bad a need another server.. which wasnt exactly what I wanted
10:00 bluenemo or I install the FTP server on one of the web workers..
10:00 ndevos bluenemo: mount it over glusterfs instead of nfs?
10:00 bluenemo which also isnt what i wanted
10:00 bluenemo because glusterfs is incredibly slow compared to NFS
10:01 bluenemo (as in mounting via -t gluster)
10:01 haomaiwang joined #gluster
10:03 kbyrne joined #gluster
10:04 ndevos bluenemo: you can try to use nfs, you would need to mount like: mount -t nfs -o nolock localhost:/volume /path/to/ftp/export
10:05 jvandewege joined #gluster
10:07 bluenemo and what if another process writes to those files on another server at the same time?
10:10 bluenemo btw - I have two gluster servers in rep mode, A and B. I have client 1 mount via NFS from A, and client 2 via NFS from B - thats ok by design right?
10:10 bluenemo just getting more and more into NFS and reading up horror stories on mailing lists ;)

10:11 dvargek Hi guys, is there anybody with geo-replication experience?
10:12 bluenemo dvargek, just ask
10:12 dvargek I'm trying to setup geo-replication between two hosts running gluster 3.7 and get the following error in log:
10:12 dvargek "/usr/libexec/glusterfs/gsyncd: No such file or directory"
10:12 bluenemo ndevos, can you give me some insight into nolock and why to use it please? can really understand it from google
10:13 dvargek both machines are running debian, thats why I wonder why the daemon looks for gsyncd under that specific path
10:13 bluenemo sound like you miss some executable dvargek. check if you installed all the packages
10:13 dvargek also the logfile points to "https://access.redhat.com/site/documentation/en-US/Red_Hat_Storage/2.1/html/Administration_Guide/chap-User_Guide-Geo_Rep-Preparation-Settingup_Environment.html" but this site provides no help for me
10:14 bluenemo thats actually not true (what I just said). its a lib..
10:15 Nebraskka joined #gluster
10:17 dvargek well there are 3 packages provided in the gluster mirror: glusterfs-client,glusterfs-common,glusterfs-server which are all installed
10:17 bluenemo hm idk.. (nfs nolock). As the mount is only for the developers using FTP, I'll mount it via glusterfs now and just see if anyone notices.
10:17 bluenemo :)
10:18 ndevos bluenemo: the problem with NFSv3 is that a system can only have one NFS-lock (NLM) implementation available - and both server and client need one
10:19 beeradb_ joined #gluster
10:19 ndevos bluenemo: the NFS-client (part of the linux kernel) uses the lockd kernel module, and Gluster/NFS uses its own userspace one, they conflict with eachother
10:20 bluenemo ndevos, ah ok thank you ! :)
10:27 kotreshhr dvargek: I think that is known issue in ubuntu and there is a bug for it https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1165142
10:27 glusterbot Bug 1165142: medium, medium, 3.5.4, bugs, NEW , hardcoded gsyncd path causes geo-replication to fail on non-redhat systems
10:28 kotreshhr dvargek: As a work around you can symlink the gsyncd to where it actually installed in ubuntu
10:28 dvargek Ah, thanks a lot

16:54 ndevos hi rraja
16:55 ndevos kkeithley: I might be gone in a bit, maybe you can keep an eye out for questions here?
16:56 kkeithley pls
16:56 kkeithley okay
17:00 rraja ndevos: i contribute upstream to the glusterfs driver that uses NFS-Ganesha as the server in OpenStack Manila. I've a user on #openstack-manila channel having questions on how to setup NFS-Ganesha (2.2) with glusterfs 3.7. and his question seem to center around HA and this isn't my strong suit. is it OK if I may direct him here?

17:06 ayma_ hi, I'm the one with the question about ha-ganesha
17:07 ayma_ if I'm using 3.7 gluster and 2.2 ganesha and the 3.7 gluster is set to replicate do i need to run a HA ganesha?
17:07 rraja kkeithley: ^^
17:08 kkeithley no, you don't have to run HA.  Only if you want to.   You could run a 2x replica gluster volume and run a single ganesha server. No HA is needed.
17:09 atinm joined #gluster
17:11 ayma_ okay, will i need to disable anything in gluster or ganesha to run with a single ganesha server?  reason I ask is I saw one post that mentioned ganesha ha is turned on by default? http://www.gluster.org/pipermail/gluster-users/2015-June/022222.html
17:11 glusterbot Title: [Gluster-users] gluster-3.7 cannot start volume & ganesha feature cannot turn on problem (at www.gluster.org)
17:14 kkeithley HA is used if you manage ganesha through glusterd and the gluster CLI.  You can ignore that and manage it separately.  Pretty much as you would have with glusterfs-3.6.
17:14 kkeithley there's nothing to disable
17:15 ayma_ so one of the things I was trying to use was gluster nfs-ganesha enable
17:16 ayma_ which i suppose goes through glusterd...i'm not sure how to do the gluster nfs-ganesha enable manually
17:16 kkeithley that is what I'm telling not to do.
17:16 kkeithley what linux are you using?
17:17 ayma_ so i'm trying to follow this link http://blog.gluster.org/2014/09/glusterfs-and-nfs-ganesha-integration/
17:17 glusterbot Title: GlusterFS and NFS-Ganesha integration | Gluster Community Website (at blog.gluster.org)
17:17 ayma_ to setup manually...using centos7
17:18 kkeithley you need to write an /etc/ganesha/ganesha.conf file. That's in the blog.
17:18 ayma_ it looks like for 2.2 though there is a little bit of an update so i followed https://github.com/nfs-ganesha/nfs-ganesha/wiki/GLUSTER for the /etc/ganesha/ganesha.conf file
17:18 glusterbot Title: GLUSTER · nfs-ganesha/nfs-ganesha Wiki · GitHub (at github.com)
17:18 kkeithley Then you need a systemd nfs-ganesha.service file
17:18 kkeithley yes, nfs-ganesha-2.2 is the current release.
17:21 ayma_ i installed using the rpms from http://download.gluster.org/pub/gluster/glusterfs/nfs-ganesha/2.2.0/CentOS/
17:21 glusterbot Title: Index of /pub/gluster/glusterfs/nfs-ganesha/2.2.0/CentOS (at download.gluster.org)
17:21 ayma_ and see that i have a nfs-ganesha.service in /usr/lib/systemd/system/nfs-ganesha.service
17:22 kkeithley so far so good.
17:22 kkeithley make sure that nfs (gnfs, gluster nfs) is disabled with `gluster volume set $volname nfs.disable ON`
17:23 kkeithley you just need to add the /etc/ganesha/ganesha.conf with the export(s) and the gluster FSAL info.
17:24 ayma_ here's what i have in the /etc/ganesha/ganesha.conf http://pastebin.com/AZw0Z055
17:24 glusterbot Please use http://fpaste.org or http://paste.ubuntu.com/ . pb has too many ads. Say @paste in channel for info about paste utils.
17:24 kkeithley then use systemctl to enable and start the ganesha nfsd
17:25 kkeithley that looks reasonable
17:25 ayma_ i manually started ganesha by running
17:25 ayma_ ganesha.nfsd -f /etc/ganesha/ganesha.conf -L ganesha.log
17:26 kkeithley that works too.
17:26 ayma_ and that's when things go wrong :(
17:26 kkeithley as in?
17:26 ayma_ seems like it just dies
17:26 ayma_ with the  ganesha.nfsd -f /etc/ganesha/ganesha.conf -L ganesha.log -F option I see that it runs longer
17:27 ayma_ meaning its not dying
17:27 kkeithley and you looked at the logs (/var/log/ganesha.log) and it told you what?
17:27 kkeithley it takes about 60 seconds before it emerges from GRACE. Then what's in the logs

17:40 rraja ayma_: you need to install the http://rpmfind.net/linux/rpm2html/search.php?query=nfs-ganesha-gluster
17:40 glusterbot Title: RPM resource nfs-ganesha-gluster (at rpmfind.net)
17:41 rraja you're missing the glusterfs FSAL
17:45 ayma_ oh okay thanks
17:45 rraja yeah that was my suspicion since the install doc that you were referring to doesn't make a mention of that package.
17:48 rraja ayma_: i'm logging off. it's pretty late here in India. please feel free to post gluster-ganesha usage related queries on gluster-users mailing list or in this channel. thanks!

19:20 beeradb_ hey all, I'm trying to build a gluster pool and was just curious if there's any advantage to running the gluster daemons via docker? Docker is already heavily used in our stack, but these hosts will be running nothing but gluster, so it kind of feels like overkill here
19:20 beeradb_ anyway, if anyone has experience in the matter I'd love to hear your thoughts :)
