09:20 hagarth Sunghost: have you checked the nfs and brick log files for any problems reported? in addition the dmesg file on your client could also help.

09:25 Sunghost wait i tested yesterday night a lot, i mean that the problem occures also if mount on both server via nfs and copy
09:27 hagarth Sunghost: might be interesting to determine what component in the stack (e.g. network, storage etc.) is causing problems.
09:28 Sunghost yes it would ;)
09:29 hagarth Sunghost: what is the network interconnect between your client & servers?

09:30 Sunghost could it be a memory involved problem?
09:30 Sunghost each with 12gb
09:31 hagarth Sunghost: have you seen the RSS usage of nfs servers when this problem happens?
09:31 Sunghost what is rss usage

15:39 turkleton That looks decent, but I want to understand more of the internals as to how GNFS works and replicates the data as well as the implications of using it. :)
15:47 firemanxbr turkleton, glusterd(daemon) export NFS, CIFS, and GlusterFS...
15:47 turkleton Right, but does it still hook all the file write operations properly to ensure that all of the data is properly synced? How does using NFS change the way that the GFS back-end works as opposed to the native client (FUSE)?
15:47 firemanxbr turkleton, for view if service is available, run this command: showmount -e
15:48 turkleton We're currently mounting GFS with GNFS, but I want to ensure there are no additional implications or potential gotchas

19:48 turkleton hagarth: Looking at the 28th and 29th slide, it appears that the way we're setting it up is not ideal. We're currently deploying this at AWS and have two storage nodes (one in AZ-a and one in AZ-b), and we have web nodes in both availability zones as well. To mitigate latency, we're mounting the storage node in AZ a by the web nodes in AZ a, and b for b.
19:48 turkleton Since we are using multiple availability zones, we're not able to move an IP from one storage node to the other
19:49 turkleton Which makes the HA failover difficult since the IP can't float
19:57 turkleton JoeJulian: Any insight as well? ^
19:57 JoeJulian Maybe openvswitch with a vxlan?
20:00 turkleton It's all in AWS so we don't have control of the networking environment
20:01 turkleton Is mounting both of the storage nodes via NFS a bad idea?
20:11 DV joined #gluster
20:18 JoeJulian You can run openvswitch inside your hosts. Build a vxlan network inside the aws network with private address space.
20:19 JoeJulian No, mounting both is not bad.

20:24 kovshenin joined #gluster
20:31 turkleton Thanks for your answers JoeJulian. :) You've been a rockstar with helping us btw. Can that private address space cross AZs?
20:32 JoeJulian That's what vxlan was designed for.
20:33 JoeJulian That's how you present a layer 2 network that spans a layer3 one.
