00:03 Guest41282 Hi. I would like to ask whether there is a resource/book about GlusterFS (e.g. LearningCeph about Ceph). I have been looking for it though I only come across introduction about GlusterFS which covers a small part of it. Thanks.
00:15 JoeJulian @rtfm
00:15 glusterbot JoeJulian: Read the fairly-adequate manual at https://gluster.readthedocs.org/en/latest/
00:15 JoeJulian That's all that I'm aware of.
00:15 JoeJulian I'm not a fan of books, though, since they're out of date before they're printed.
00:16 xoritor JoeJulian, i have to agree
00:18 hagarth JoeJulian: what is the alias for filing a bug?
00:18 hagarth @fileabug doesn't seem to the one

00:18 glusterbot https://bugzilla.redhat.com/enter_bug.cgi?product=GlusterFS
00:18 hagarth ah darn, thank you!

00:19 JoeJulian I used a regex match for that one just to keep you on your toes.

16:12 jwr_ Is there a consensus approved method for mounting glusterfs at boot time on ubuntu 12.04? I'm on glusterfs 3.5.6. When this machine boots it won't mount the gluster file systems, but if i log in and "mount -a" it mounts just fine.
16:13 jwr_ This machine is acting as both client and server, so it's mounting localhost:/sharename
16:23 JoeJulian BlackPanx: That shouldn't happen. I think that may be a crashed client. Did you check the client logs? What version are you running?
16:25 JoeJulian jwr_: The problem is, glusterd starts and some network handshaking is done. There's a gap between when glusterd backgrounds and glusterfsd (the brick servers) start listening. You're trying to mount in that gap.
16:27 jwr_ JoeJulian: Sounds about right. This has to have come up a bunch of times already. Is there a fix/workaround?
16:30 JoeJulian I was typing a suggestion but then checked the latest fuse client and I don't see any of the command line options I was going to suggest.
16:31 JoeJulian You used to be able to set a large number of retries.
16:32 JoeJulian Oh, there it is. fetch-attempts.
16:33 JoeJulian So what I would do is either, use rrdns to feed the client a list of hosts that it can try connecting to, or use backup-volfile-servers to list multiple servers in the mount options, and add the mount option fetch-attempts with some extremely large number.
16:34 JoeJulian Or figure out how to make upstart not so lame.
16:35 jwr_ "figure out how to make upstart not so lame" is the real solution, but also the most work.
16:35 JoeJulian The way every other distro solved that was to not use it. ;)
16:36 jwr_ do you expect any difference between localhost:/sharename versus 1.2.3.4:/sharename, where both of them reference the same computer?
16:36 JoeJulian No difference at all.
16:37 rjoseph joined #gluster
16:37 jwr_ okay. i added fetch-attempts, time to reboot and see how this works...
16:37 JoeJulian Do you only have 1 server?
16:37 jwr_ two servers, replicating one share
16:37 jwr_ i don't even know if "share" is the right term. maybe FS.
16:37 JoeJulian Then add the other one as a backup-volfile-servers
16:38 JoeJulian jwr_: thanks for correcting yourself. Makes me feel better that you're getting it. Migrating the mindset from single-store to clusters can sometimes be a challenge.
16:39 kovshenin joined #gluster
16:40 jwr_ JoeJulian: rebooted, and apparently fetch-attempts isn't allowed anymore.
16:40 jwr_ mount -a

18:23 JoeJulian jwr_: I don't see how. Doesn't 14.04 still use upstart?
18:24 JoeJulian Everything I use uses systemd
18:24 jwr_ JoeJulian: yeah, i think it does use upstart, but google-fu has suggested that 14.04 somehow doesn't have this issue.

23:19 TrincaTwik Hi guys! I had googled for all internet... maybe i'm stupid don't know... i'm unable to add my gluster shared mount to fstab keeps saying "/sbin/mount.glusterfs: illegal option -- v" .... just pass a asimple line to fstab: "localhost:/test-volume  /mnt/teste      glusterfs       defaults,_netdev        0 0"
23:19 TrincaTwik damn
23:19 TrincaTwik centos 7
23:20 JoeJulian Odd
23:20 TrincaTwik damn getting crazy
23:20 JoeJulian Centos7 uses systemd so, theoretically, the _netdev should no longer be required.

23:41 TrincaTwik nowhere
23:41 TrincaTwik damn
23:41 TrincaTwik just keep googling
23:42 JoeJulian Which version of gluster are you using?
23:42 TrincaTwik wait
23:42 Jmainguy localhost:/test /mnt/test glusterfs defaults,_netdev 0 0 gives the -v error?
