00:03 glusterbot Title: [Gluster-devel] GlusterD 2.0 status updates for last two months (at www.mail-archive.com)
00:03 JoeJulian Looking back for references...
00:03 JoeJulian Makes me chuckle that you, on the inside, are asking me for design status. :D
00:03 hgichon joined #gluster
00:04 purpleidea hehe, there's no inside/outside really, it's mostly a myth
00:04 JoeJulian Oh, wow. Is all of glusterd2 go? https://github.com/gluster/glusterd2
00:04 glusterbot Title: gluster/glusterd2 · GitHub (at github.com)
00:04 purpleidea the only "inside" stuff is when two Red Hat hackers sit next to each other and talk, since that's generally not publicly accessible, but many talk on public irc
00:05 purpleidea i got wind of some golang gluster stuff a week ago, but i had no idea any significant parts would be golang
00:06 purpleidea i also had made a casual proposal about management for gluster 2.0 -- not sure if it was taken seriously or not, but it sounds like maybe subconsciously someone might have taken a hint ---
00:06 glusterbot purpleidea: -'s karma is now -351
00:06 JoeJulian No, I know. But my job is building datacenter automation, not full time gluster.
00:06 purpleidea i'm working on something relating to automation that could possibly be used for gluster 2.0 but gluster isn't the main goal. that's just a side benefit if they're interested
00:07 purpleidea glusterbot: damn ---
00:07 glusterbot purpleidea: damn -'s karma is now -1
00:07 purpleidea why is my karma so bad
00:07 JoeJulian @karma purpleidea
00:07 glusterbot JoeJulian: Karma for "purpleidea" has been increased 7 times and decreased 0 times for a total karma of 7.

00:07 purpleidea oh i get it
00:08 purpleidea ---
00:08 glusterbot purpleidea: -'s karma is now -353
00:08 purpleidea lol
00:08 purpleidea JoeJulian: seriously, glusterbot has been one of the best parts of gluster hacking... only second to JMWBot
00:08 JoeJulian I'm not really all that interested in making the regex matching any better.
00:08 JoeJulian hehe

00:09 purpleidea JoeJulian: back on topic, you might like my project, but it's in golang :P
00:09 JoeJulian ugh
00:09 JoeJulian So what is it?
00:13 purpleidea it's a thing, i didn't really announce anything yet, planning on it shortly... maybe a week or two?
00:13 purpleidea ...so you should ping me then! you'd totally like it

06:59 glusterbot soponge: Despite the fact that friendly greetings are nice, please ask your question. Carefully identify your problem in such a way that when a volunteer has a few minutes, they can offer you a potential solution. These are volunteers, so be patient. Answers may come in a few minutes, or may take hours. If you're still in the channel, someone will eventually offer an answer.

07:10 soponge When I use NFS v3 to access gluster volumes, I have faced some troubles. The first of them is "NFS server" on the server is not ok. I check it by command "gluster volume status" on the server machine, then  it shows that"Status of volume: gv1 Gluster processPortOnlinePid ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Brick 192.168.1.160:/export/sdb5/brick249153Y2605 NFS Server on localh
07:10 glusterbot soponge: ----------------------------------------------------------------------------'s karma is now -10
07:14 soponge The system is Ubuntu 12.04. Then I using the following command just as FAQs' say: # /etc/init.d/nfs-kernel-server stop ;  # /etc/init.d/glusterfs-server restart; # gluster volume start gv1 force

07:39 soponge I've used glusterfs-3.5.6 for some test, and the server machine's system is Ubuntu 12.04.When I use NFS v3 to access gluster volumes, I have faced some troubles. Firs of them is that "NFS server" on the server machine is not ok. I check it by using command "# gluster volume status", then  it shows this message as "NFS Server on localhost N/A N N/A".
07:40 soponge Then I solve this problem using the following command: # /etc/init.d/nfs-kernel-server stop; #/etc/init.d/glusterfs-server restart; #gluster volume start gv1 force(gv1 is the   volume's name). After a while, I saw the NFS server on the server machine is ok, like this "NFS Server on localhost 2049 Y 32220". Then another problem was coming, when I using the command of "# rpcinfo -p", I saw this: 100021    4   tcp  38468  nlockmgr, 1
07:41 soponge 100021    1   tcp    600  nlockmgr, I noticed that there was service 'nlockmgr' on port 38468 with the protocol 'tcp',but without 'UDP'. I feel puzzled to this: what's the reason of this condition? Whether the commands I've used weren't proper, or the implement of glusterfs is not support NLM with UDP?
07:41 soponge I'm looking forward your reply. And any answer will be appreciated!

16:54 turkleton Hey folks. I'm seeing something sort of weird with a "failed" heal operation where old files that have been removed are still showing up in the heal output http://termbin.com/mh5y
16:54 turkleton any idea why?
16:54 turkleton Those directories don't exist in either .glusterfs replicated brick dir

17:05 turkleton None of those GFIDs match
17:08 JoeJulian Guest37574: On the server with the failed brick, after starting glusterd you'll need to "gluster volume start $volname force" to recreate the xattrs and start the replaced brick.
17:09 mhulsman joined #gluster
17:10 JoeJulian turkleton: Looks like you might have stale entries in .glusterfs/indices/xattrop
17:10 turkleton I was wondering if that may be the case, but I was nervous about venturing in there
17:11 turkleton I don't see that UUID in xattrop
17:12 turkleton Is it safe to remove the empty files under xattrop?
17:13 JoeJulian On a live volume? I don't know. They should all be empty. They're just indicators.
17:13 turkleton *nod*
17:14 turkleton Moved all those files out of the way instead of deleting just in case, and heal is now clean
17:14 turkleton They all appeared to reference old non-existent files
17:14 JoeJulian Cool.
17:14 turkleton We've been doing a battery of testing to intentionally try breaking it
17:14 turkleton Think I may have just placed a ticking time bomb?
17:14 turkleton Time bombs can be fun...
17:14 JoeJulian Hehe, yes they can.
17:15 JoeJulian If the xattrop entries were for files that don't exist and aren't open, should be fine.
17:15 JoeJulian I would double check an lsof | grep deleted
17:15 turkleton Only deleted files are "missing_snaps"
17:16 turkleton s/missing_snaps/missed_snaps_list/
17:16 glusterbot What turkleton meant to say was: Only deleted files are "missed_snaps_list"
17:16 turkleton thanks glusterbot
17:17 turkleton JoeJulian: Your blog has been incredibly helpful btw. Learned a lot about the .glusterfs dir thanks to this: https://joejulian.name/blog/what-is-this-new-glusterfs-directory-in-33/

17:19 JoeJulian kotnik: Looks like glusterd failed to start after you upgraded. Typically, I can't tell why from the default logs and I generally just run "glusterd --debug" from the command line to figure it out.
