01:10 kukulogy Hi I'm having a problem removing my bricks. I'm using striped-replicate volume. http://dpaste.com/0CETG96
01:10 glusterbot Title: dpaste: 0CETG96 (at dpaste.com)
01:16 side_control i dont get this... it seems that a volume i created that contains one brick on one node, is dependent on having no healing operations running in order to work correctly
01:18 side_control i was getting "could not get storage size" when attempting to start this VM, now that the healing operations are almost complete.. it started up fine

10:41 paul98 hi
10:41 glusterbot paul98: Despite the fact that friendly greetings are nice, please ask your question. Carefully identify your problem in such a way that when a volunteer has a few minutes, they can offer you a potential solution. These are volunteers, so be patient. Answers may come in a few minutes, or may take hours. If you're still in the channel, someone will eventually offer an answer.
10:42 paul98 https://kshlm.in/network-encryption-in-glusterfs/ - has any one followed this, and can you break down the ssl generation, i'm getting confused with what is equired

10:42 paul98 i generated  private key and a CA on each pool server e.g 2 of them, then done the same on the client that wants to access the data. Is that it?
10:42 kshlm paul98, What exactly are you getting confused with?
10:43 kshlm paul98, That's it.
10:43 paul98 ok
10:43 paul98 then what happens with it
10:43 paul98 i guess it's you who wrote this kshlm ?
10:44 kshlm I did.
10:44 paul98 ah cool! best person to speak to then
10:44 paul98 so on each server i done, openssl rsa -in server.key.org -out server.key
10:45 paul98 then openssl x509 -req -days 365 -in server.csr -signkey server.key -out server.crt
10:45 Wizek joined #gluster
10:45 kshlm You need to now collect all the certs you've generated, from both your servers and your client, concatenate them into a single CA file.
10:45 kshlm And distribute this combined file back to your servers and clietns.
10:45 kshlm You need to have 3 files on each server/client.
10:46 kshlm 1 private key glusterfs.key
10:46 kshlm 1 certificate glusterfs.pem
10:46 kshlm 1 CA cert glusterfs.ca, which is a combination of all the certs.
10:47 kshlm Till now you've generated just the key and the cert on all your machines.
10:47 paul98 ok
10:47 paul98 so what's the next cert i ned to do the certificate glusterfs.pem?
10:48 kshlm the server.crt you've got now is the cert, ie glusterfs.pem.
10:48 somlin22 joined #gluster
10:48 paul98 ok so i've go thte .key and the .pem
10:48 paul98 how do i gernate the .ca then?
10:50 kshlm get all the pem's, combine all into a single file.
10:50 kshlm That is the .ca.
10:50 paul98 so is the .pem and .ca the same thing?
10:50 kshlm You need to copy this ca file to all the machines
10:50 kshlm pem is just a single certificate.
10:50 kshlm ca is bunch of certificates.
10:51 * paul98 sits down confused!
10:51 paul98 i can generate ssh keys, and a csr thats about as far as it goes lol
10:53 kshlm You've got the certs.
10:53 kshlm Copy all the certs from whereever you've generated them onto a single machine.
10:54 kshlm Combine them into a single file, `cat server1.pem server2.pem ... > glusterfs.ca`
10:54 kshlm Copy this file back to all machines.
10:56 somlin22 joined #gluster
11:10 paul98 right so i started again ive a .key and .pem on each server
11:10 paul98 i now need to make a glustergs.ca file which has all 6 keys in it (2 servers, 1 client)

11:39 paul98 did you see my bit earlier?
11:39 paul98 i now need to make a glustergs.ca file which has all 6 keys in it (2 servers, 1 client)
11:39 paul98 then copy the gluster.ca onto each server / client
11:39 paul98 i then done
11:39 paul98 # gluster volume set <VOLNAME> auth.ssl-allow 'server1,server2,server3,client1,client2,client3'
11:39 paul98 Enable {client,server}.ssl on the volume. # gluster volume set <VOLNAME> client.ssl on server.ssl on
11:40 paul98 with server1 / server2 / client1 being ip addresses of the  servers etc as thats ho the volume setup
11:40 kshlm The glusterfs.ca file should just contain the 3 .pem files.
11:40 paul98 ah
11:40 paul98 not the .keys as well!
11:40 paul98 of course no
11:40 kshlm Nope. The keys are private.

17:54 JoeJulian mahdi: Does it create a core file? I think that error is a red herring. Notice it does that several times before without crashing.
17:55 mahdi No it does not
17:56 JoeJulian Bummer. That's, at least, something I could help diagnose.
17:57 JoeJulian I'm afraid you're going to have to file a bug report. Include that log file.
17:57 glusterbot https://bugzilla.redhat.com/enter_bug.cgi?product=GlusterFS
17:57 JoeJulian Did this happen with 3.7.12?
17:58 mahdi i used 3.7.12 with vmware but it was buggy and couldnt start with it using "sharding"
17:58 mahdi 3.7.13 worked until i got this
17:58 mahdi the gfid translated to this file "/bricks/b01/vlm01/vmware/.iorm.sf", this file is associated with storage I/O control
17:59 mahdi im disabling the feature now and see if its going to crash again or not since im not using it anyway
17:59 JoeJulian Can you enable core dumps? I would be happy to try to help diagnose the problem if I could get a proper backtrace.

22:21 hfourie hi all, I am new to gluster and it seems to be the best thing to host by backup server data. I am looking for the best way to start off a greenfield site
22:21 hfourie also looking for some recomendations: looking to start with 3 nodes and dispersed volumes.
22:22 hfourie does anyone have input if this is a good/bad idea?

22:24 phaelbrito I wonder if you have any application to know the time of reading a file on a client
22:32 hfourie ok, lets put it this way....If I start with 3 nodes using 2 bricks on each node, can I add 1 more server, or will I have to add 3 servers at a time?
