07:25 martinetd Hi, I've got horrible performance writing on a replicated (2-servers) gluster volume and I'm not quite sure how to debug that
07:26 martinetd writing directly to bricks is fine (~500MB/s), network is gigabyte and I do get gigabyte performances when reading
07:26 martinetd but writing is stuck at ~10MB/s at most - about a tenth of what I'd expect, often less
07:26 nehar joined #gluster
07:27 martinetd I ran gluster volume profile and most IOs are 128k+ so that seems fine either
07:27 martinetd Is there anything else I could look at?

09:52 itisravi martinetd: what version of gluster are you running?
09:53 martinetd 3.7.8
09:54 post-factum martinetd: consider upgrading first, please
09:56 itisravi +1. 3.7.8 had a perf bug https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1309462 that was fixed.
09:56 glusterbot Bug 1309462: low, unspecified, ---, ravishankar, CLOSED CURRENTRELEASE, Upgrade from 3.7.6 to 3.7.8 causes massive drop in write performance.  Fresh install of 3.7.8 also has low write performance
09:57 martinetd Obviously.. Thanks for pointing it out, I'll see what I can do
09:58 martinetd (the bz also suggests disabling write-behind, doing that for now - it already helps quite a bit)
09:59 itisravi yes, you could aslo see if turning off data-self-heal helps

10:31 farblue hi all, I'm sruggling with adding a new server to my gluster peer pool. Previously the server was mearly a client. I've installed the server components, formatted and mounted a new disk etc. but then the server won't peer - I get  'Peer Rejected (Connected)'. I've shut down the server, removed all by the uuid file from /var/lib/glusterd and restarted but I can't get it to work
10:34 farblue Here’s the output from the etc-glusterfs-glusterd.vol.log file when I try to peer:

14:08 dgandhi hi all, I have a gluster cluster running 3.5.2, is there reliable zero-downtime node-by-node migration path to the current stable version? Are there links for a compatibility matrix/other docs on such an upgrade?

19:28 JoeJulian Welcome back, internet... <sigh>
19:29 JoeJulian flakinson: writing your own volfile is deprecated (a long time ago). Retrieve the volume definition created by glusterd by specifying one of the management servers followed by a colon followed by a volume name.
19:29 JoeJulian @mount server
19:29 glusterbot JoeJulian: (#1) The server specified is only used to retrieve the client volume definition. Once connected, the client connects to all the servers in the volume. See also @rrdns, or (#2) One caveat is that the clients never learn of any other management peers. If the client cannot communicate with the mount server, that client will not learn of any volume changes.
