00:54 shortdudey123 for the fuse client, can you specify more than one backupvolfile-server? if so, is it comma seperated, or specified for each value? no real info about it on https://gluster.readthedocs.io/en/latest/Administrator%20Guide/Setting%20Up%20Clients/

12:19 flying guys gluster vs nfs?
12:20 shyam Javezim: Are you looking for processes to monitor on the brick servers? I would then say the brick processes are the most interesting (glusterfsd), if you are also interested in gluster backend service deamons like self-heal or rebalance, then their corresponding 'glusterfs' processes would be the additional ones to monitor.
12:29 post-factum flying, it depends
12:31 cloph gluster with nfs also is an option

13:06 pcdummy Hi, i've seen Manuals on limiting the CPU usage of the glusterfs client to 200%, we have it stuck at 200% and want it to use at much as needed on request, how do we do that?
13:06 pcdummy 2 CPU CORES
13:06 mhulsman1 joined #gluster
13:07 misc I would do that with systemd
13:07 pcdummy We are on Debian, can't find any limits file.

16:35 f0rpaxe hi
16:35 glusterbot f0rpaxe: Despite the fact that friendly greetings are nice, please ask your question. Carefully identify your problem in such a way that when a volunteer has a few minutes, they can offer you a potential solution. These are volunteers, so be patient. Answers may come in a few minutes, or may take hours. If you're still in the channel, someone will eventually offer an answer.
16:36 f0rpaxe out of curiosity, has anyone used glusterfs on top of zfs, and shared/used/executed freebsd jails on top of it ?

16:55 JoeJulian Plenty have used gluster on zfs. Not sure about the jails part though.
16:56 JoeJulian f0rpaxe: ^
16:59 f0rpaxe Hmm I was wondering if I ran MySQL on both bricks they would magically work without split brain conditions
17:13 JoeJulian You don't run anything but gluster on bricks.

17:30 JoeJulian circ-user-Fk7I3: You can use gfind_missing_files to identify which file that is.
17:39 JoeJulian ... maybe... if not, in the source tree there's tools/gfind_missing_files/gfid_to_path.py That's what I thought I was suggesting, but it looks like that utility does something a little bit different.

20:09 PatNarciso Hello all.  happy Monday.
20:15 PatNarciso Question about tiering.  As long as the hot tier is in the trusted storage pool -- MUST the hot tier bricks be on the same server as the cold tier bricks?  ex: I've got cold bricks on ServerA and ServerB making Vol1, and want to add a hot tier-- a brick on ServerC.  (again, ServerC is in the trusted pool, but ServerC has no bricks attached to any volume, yet...)
20:15 glusterbot PatNarciso: tier's karma is now -1
20:16 PatNarciso I ask because: each example I've seen so far, the hot bricks added on the existing servers hosting the cold bricks.

20:45 JoeJulian PatNarciso: I haven't seen any requirement that it be so, but I suspect it's best practice since otherwise the file is being moved across the network.

22:13 Pupeno joined #gluster
22:20 JoeJulian PatNarciso_: I honestly have no idea. I haven't looked in to how tiering functions behind the scenes yet. My expectation would be that it would use the same technique that dht uses when rebalancing.

22:36 PatNarciso_ thanks. I'll have to re-read on how dht cooks up its hash.  if it is for certain the file will be (de-pro)moted on the same server -- then there is a great advantage to upgrading the boxes to include a hot-ssd cache.  but, if the hot-hash is going to send the file to another server because of a mis-matching brick count... then-- the cross network xfer may not be avoidable.
22:36 glusterbot PatNarciso_: then's karma is now -1
