08:01 theeboat Hi All, does anybody know if its possible to rejoin a host to a cluster after a full OS reinstall? I wasn't able to backup the /var/lib/gluster dir but the data on the bricks is still usable?
08:02 R0ok_ joined #gluster
08:10 lanwatch hi theeboat, it should be possible indeed
08:11 lanwatch you can start glusterd on that node
08:11 lanwatch no volumes
08:12 lanwatch then edit /var/lib/glusterd/glusterd.info so that the UUID matches the previous that the other peers had on record
08:12 lanwatch (grep around /var/lib/glusterd/peers on some other node)
08:12 lanwatch (before editing, stop glusterd)
08:13 lanwatch and then restart glusterd and probe some other peer
08:13 lanwatch after that you and start the volume and it should automagically repopulate the volume info
08:14 lanwatch JoeJulian helped me yesterday, he surely knows better
08:14 lanwatch perhaps it's better to wait for him
08:17 theeboat Great, thanks for the quick response ill give this a try now.
08:31 theeboat lanwatch: unfortunately that didn't seem to work. The host is still showing as disconnected when I run volume status and on the host with the new OS it is showing the other hosts as 'Accepted peer request'

08:49 bartden how can i verify is direct-io-mode is enabled … if i do an strace on a java program a see the open call without O_DIRECT flag

09:05 sanoj bartden, Was the O_DIRECT set as a mount option (as opposed to open syscall). If that is the case, I think it is reasonable that you dont see an O_DIRECT flag because at the time syscall is made you have not made your request to FS/VFS yet, so noway for that mount option info to be shown in syscall
09:06 sanoj bartden, I guess it should be honored at the VFS/FS layer though
09:06 bartden sanoj it was set as a mount option , which process to i need to strace to verify if the O_DIRECT flag is there
09:06 bartden or is this the curtosy of the kernel ?
09:07 sanoj bartden, yes its in the kernel DS
09:07 bartden is there a way to verify this in the glusterfs server logs that the O_DIRECT flag has been set?

15:46 JoeJulian Asako: depends on your use case. For low volume block replication, sure. drbd can do that. For a clustered filesystem, there's gluster or cephfs.
15:46 JoeJulian arpu: yay?
15:47 JoeJulian Asako: for high volume block replication, there is block images on gluster, or there's ceph.
15:48 JoeJulian And yes, there are others but many of them lie about things like files being written completely, etc.

16:10 mallorn I assume that cluster.stripe-block-size shouldn't be changed on a volume that already contains data.  Is that true?
16:11 mallorn We only have very large files on our filesystem, and the storage nodes have plenty of CPU/RAM.  Heals are taking forever and I thought increasing the stripe-block-size might speed things up.

16:58 Asako our use case is kind of mixed.  There's a lot of stuff stored on the /storage volume.  User home dirs, fedora mirrors, etc. etc.
