11:05 ilansch anyone alive ?
11:06 jiffin ilansch: i am pretty much alive
11:06 ilansch I have a question regarding to gluster and its implementation..
11:10 ilansch I have a cluster with 2 nodes up and running, If from another "client machine"" i mount the gluster volume, mount -t nfs/glusterfs, when i execute operation from client machine, i listen to the operations in kernel vfs layer, if the client machine executed: touch somefile, then on the server machine, i get 3 events: 1.file create for "somefile" wit
11:10 ilansch h uid/gid=0/0, 2. file chown (uid to set is the user executed the operation from nfs client)) the user who executed the chown is 0/0, 3. file chgrp - same as #2..
11:13 jiffin ilansch: did u mean why there is 3 operations for touch file?
11:13 jiffin IMO it operation send from application either fuse module/ nfs-client
11:13 jiffin not from gluster client stack itself
11:14 kkeithley liansch: #gluster-devel channel is really for devel...  when you say you mount -t nfs/glusterfs  do you really mean you have two mounts: one nfs and one glusterfs?
11:16 ilansch i meant that the same behavior happen when i mount as glusterfs or nfs, on both clients
11:17 ilansch this is a server behavior.. a wierd one, usually the nfs server just create the file with the same uid/gid who executed the operation from client side, but on gluster the file is created by root, and then a chown/chgrp is made

11:49 ndevos ilansch: we actually should call setfsuid() and setfsgid() as mentioned in https://github.com/gluster/glusterfs/blob/master/xlators/storage/posix/src/posix.c#L70
11:49 glusterbot Title: glusterfs/posix.c at master · gluster/glusterfs · GitHub (at github.com)
11:53 ilansch yes, Why is that ?
11:54 ilansch usually on NFS, when i execute operation from nfs client, if i do touch "somefile", from client nfs, it is sent to the nfs kernel, and nfs kernel in the server machine create the file, with the same uid/gid of nfs client
11:55 ilansch on the gluster it is different, the file is created with owner/group owner of root, and then it is changed (the functions you mentioned).
11:56 ilansch why is this flow ? is it the default flow ?
12:01 ndevos ilansch: well, the kernel-nfs server does something similar to setfsuid/setfsgid, but that happens inside the kernel, glusterfs processes are in userspace, so they need to use syscalls for that
12:02 ndevos ilansch: the brick processes on the gluster server run as root, and handle requests for all users connecting to it, we do not spawn a process per user to handle the requests

12:23 ilansch Do you know where i can find the entry point for the brick ?
12:24 ilansch For my flow, when creating a file on client, when the operation is received on the server side, what class should i start with, do you know maybe ?

13:05 bartden Hi, what is the preferred version of gluster on centos 7 ?
13:07 kkeithley ilansch: protocol/server is where I/O enters gluster on the server side
13:09 nbalacha joined #gluster
13:09 kkeithley bartden: 3.10.4 is the current LTM version.  3.8.14 is the soon to be EOL previous LTM version. 3.11.2 is the current STM version if you want to play around with some of the newish features.
13:10 kkeithley the next LTM release — 3.12 — will be out on a couple of weeks. 3.8 and 3.11 will be EOL then.
13:12 bartden so, if i would go for 3.10, i guess it will be a while before it goes EOL (due to the LTM release?)
13:16 bartden kkeithley
13:17 kramdoss_ joined #gluster
13:17 kkeithley 4.0 will be a STM, release around November IIRC. 4.1 will be LTM around Feb or Mar probably. That's when 3.10 will EOL
13:18 bartden ok thx for the info

13:20 theeboat I have a cluster of 8 nodes however i can only access the exported NFS volumes on one of the nodes. The volume will mount but times out whenever i try to ls the mount point. Also on the nodes which are being problematic when i run the command gluster volume status it also times out. volume info works fine. Has anybody any ideas on what might be causing this?

15:46 JoeJulian 'Transport endpoint is not connected' usually points to a firewall misconfiguration
