11:12 ingard does anyone have a link to documentation that explains what the different priority threads mean?
11:13 ingard i've seen ppl tune io-threads to 64 and then setting high, normal, low, least -prio threads to 64 as well
11:13 ingard but is that really the right thing to do?

12:44 nh2 hi, can I post to gluster-users without signing up first?
12:44 nbalacha joined #gluster
12:45 nh2 I've sent an email straight there just now but it hasn't appeared on http://lists.gluster.org/pipermail/gluster-users/2017-September/thread.html and I also didn't receive a message saying that I have to wait for any kind of approval
12:45 glusterbot Title: The Gluster-users September 2017 Archive by thread (at lists.gluster.org)
12:46 Ulrar nh2: I think it'll get into moderation if you don't sign up yeah
12:47 Ulrar And you might not get all the answers, as most people forget (myself included) to add the original sender as Cc:
12:48 nh2 hmm, looks like the mailing list uses Greylisting: postfix/smtp[4795]: E84D172188: to=<gluster-users@gluster.org>, relay=mx1.gluster.org[198.61.169.132]:25, delay=2.7, delays=0.67/0.03/1.2/0.86,
12:48 nh2 dsn=4.2.0, status=deferred (host mx1.gluster.org[198.61.169.132] said: 450 4.2.0 <gluster-users@gluster.org>: Recipient address rejected: Greylisted, see http://postgrey
12:48 nh2 .schweikert.ch/help/gluster.org.html (in reply to RCPT TO command))
12:48 nh2 so I probably have to wait a bit for it to appear
12:50 baber joined #gluster
12:52 nh2 Ulrar: thanks, I have then subscribed for the purpose of the question. Out of interest, doesn't `Reply all` add the original sender as CC automatically?
12:52 nh2 at least the mail programs I know do that
12:54 Ulrar Sure, but you need to actually use reply all. And that'll cover only direct replies to your question, not some-one replying to a reply, which happens a lot

13:10 juhaj Hi glusterfs people. I heard from a colleague that glusterfs + zfs is a disaster… any thoughts on that?
13:11 kkeithley I don't know about "disaster."  I think it's fair to say that gluster may not take best advantage of some of ZFS features. There are people "out there" working on addressing some of those.

14:02 Guest47364 hi, i'm running to run postgresql on glusterfs. Currently no special options were set to the volume. My problem are inconsistencies. Some inserts are done twice and afterwards a SELECT by id fails. Somehow the index becomes broken. When i REINDEX the table, it complains about double primary keys
14:03 Guest47364 Has someone experience with running postgresql on gluster?

14:48 [diablo] good afternoon #gluster
14:48 [diablo] guys we've got a volume showing:
14:48 [diablo] /urbis-mame-data/Vol2017/Stereophotos/Images_16bit/028_01579Y17.tif - Is in split-brain
14:48 [diablo] whats the correct procedure to fix this please?
14:49 cloph split brain means that different bricks have different state - either different data or different metadata - you need to tell gluster which copy is the good one.
14:50 [diablo] hi cloph ok
14:50 [diablo] OK I will contact the own of the file

14:54 davidb2111 Hi all!
14:55 cloph [diablo]: just check what really is different - if the content is same, and just access time or other property is idfferent, it likely doesn't matter which copy to use - also maybe one is a 0byte file, and the other has content, so that would also be easy to tell.
14:55 [diablo] ah ok will do
15:02 davidb2111 I would like to share data accross many glusterfs client. Those clients have, possibly, diffrent uid/gid mapping. Is it possible that glsuterfs maps automatically uid/gid?

15:26 juhaj kkeithley: But you would say it's no worse than running it on top of, say, XFS?
15:27 kkeithley I don't have any personal experience running it with ZFS bricks. If you don't care about, e.g., snapshots, then it should be about the same as using XFS.
15:27 gyadav_ joined #gluster
15:29 juhaj That's what I would have expected. And even snapshots why would there be a problem? I would not expect gluster to expose the snapshots in any way (or even know about their existence), but I would expect them to work just like they work with all other programs reading/writing to zfs
15:30 juhaj I quite like gluster's design where the server side is just a normal userland program
15:30 kkeithley Gluster's snapshot functionality knows about LVM snapshotting. Someone was working on making it play nice with ZFS snapshotting IIRC.
15:30 juhaj Sure, but I would not expect it to do that
15:31 juhaj So how about OmniPath? Considering gluster is happy with infiniband I would guess it works over OmniPath as well?
15:32 kkeithley If the platform's RDMA support includes OmniPath, then it should.
15:34 juhaj Ok. Need to check on that then.
15:35 aravindavk joined #gluster
15:38 juhaj Hm... OmniPath interfaces can have IP addresses, so is the worst case scenario to run trasnport-type tcp over OP?

20:15 jefarr Looking through the documentation, do I understand correctly that exporting a volume via NFS won't support an active-active setup? (ie: two clients trying to read/write from the same files)
20:16 JoeJulian You are not correct.
20:16 jefarr that sounds lovely :)  What's the advantage of using ganesha?
20:17 JoeJulian NFSv4, at the minimum. Plus it's a codebase that's actively supported by people for whom that is their sole project. The gluster nfs service was an add-on added way back to support a customer need.
20:18 jefarr Ok, that does make sense.  I ask because the setup process for ganesha appears to be less documented, but maybe I've just not found the core docs yet
20:18 JoeJulian But since nfs isn't the primary use-case, it doesn't get the love that it should. By offloading that to ganesha, the hope is to provide more reliable stable nfs support.
20:20 jefarr is there a community/forum/chat for ganesha?  I think I could get my confusion cleared up pretty quickly.
