00:01 Brainspackle i feel now like i somehow need to get the word out about how easy it is to corrupt data on gluster via a bug that has been punted on for 3 and ah alf years
00:05 edong23 This says version 3.1... is that wrong?
00:07 Brainspackle it's still an issue with latest - the issue has been cloned and closed multiple times.. https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1286102 is the latest incarnation of the ticket but lacks any of the previous comments/attachments
00:07 glusterbot Bug 1286102: urgent, unspecified, ---, pkarampu, NEW , file corruption during concurrent read/write

06:25 garbageyard Hi. I am trying to use official Heketi container and after setting it up when i try to load the topology.json file using the following command:
06:25 garbageyard docker exec ba97d6a07ba1d906b2936366d5 heketi-cli topology load --json=topology.json
06:26 garbageyard ...i get "Error: Unable to open config file"
06:26 garbageyard Any idea?
06:26 anoopcs BlackoutWNCT, vfs module for GlusterFS should be the last one while stacking different vfs modules in share section.

06:45 BlackoutWNCT anoopcs, could you elaborate on that for me a little please? Are you saying that the glusterfs module should be listed last on the vfs modules config line? Or something else?
06:45 anoopcs BlackoutWNCT, Yes. it should be the last one.
06:51 BlackoutWNCT anoopcs, I changed that, and still no dice. Any other ideas?
06:51 anoopcs BlackoutWNCT, What exactly is the issue?
06:52 BlackoutWNCT anoopcs, I'm not able to access any shares which are using the VFS module.
06:52 BlackoutWNCT Any other shares work without issue.

06:58 anoopcs BlackoutWNCT, Are you using local user account or AD user accounts for authenticating to shares?
06:58 BlackoutWNCT hmmm, odd, it appears as though my other samba connection drop when trying to access the VFS shares too
06:59 BlackoutWNCT I had a text file open, that complained about not being able to access the source file (on a samba share with no VFS)
06:59 BlackoutWNCT anoopcs, local user account

07:27 BlackoutWNCT anoopcs, I'm saying that I don't get prompted for auth on any shares.
07:28 anoopcs BlackoutWNCT, May be because you have enabled guest access and set 'map to guest' to Bad User
07:30 anoopcs and 'usershare allow guests' is equivalent to setting 'guest ok' to yes in individual services
07:30 anoopcs so you may get rid of that
07:30 BlackoutWNCT anoopcs, the 'map to guest' line in global was commented out.
07:31 anoopcs BlackoutWNCT, but I see that in testparm output which says its there.

17:54 |R Noob question ahead: On the readthedocs, it mentions that GlusterFS doesn't support structured data / live databases. At the same time, I find articles about mysql/galera like this http://www.programering.com/a/MzNzgDMwATU.html that seems to point otherwise. So simply, is it reasonable to expect a single node MySQL to be able to use a GlusterFS path as storage or is that asking for trouble? (any more specific

19:02 |R https://review.gluster.org/#/c/10350/ my understanding from the bottom of this page is that, yes, a single node mySQL shouldn't corrupt itself... but confirmation from a dev would be nice :-)

19:31 dlambrig_ I believe MySQL normally has the entire database in one file. You may want to use MySQL's partition feature, that could create multiple files and spread the work better over gluster's nodes. If you used postgres, it creates a file per table which may be an even better fit with gluster.
19:34 jefarr Mysql can be configured file_per_table.  I don't understand why it's not the default option, but it's def there.
19:38 dlambrig_ Using mysql may be a good fit with gluster's sharding feature as well.
19:42 Wizek_ joined #gluster
19:50 jefarr I'm really curious what it is about database files that isn't supported, a more technical understanding would give me some confidence deciding if it could work for m.

20:44 |R jefarr: oh, file per table might help... But yeah, my understanding is that there is only issue if multiple process on different nodes write to the same file... but confirmation would be a good thing (once dlambrig_ reappears :) )
20:44 jefarr so... that makes me worries.  I'm putting together a cluster for gitlab and it will def try writing to the same file from multiple hosts if I load balance it...
