09:44 dimitris hi
09:44 glusterbot dimitris: Despite the fact that friendly greetings are nice, please ask your question. Carefully identify your problem in such a way that when a volunteer has a few minutes, they can offer you a potential solution. These are volunteers, so be patient. Answers may come in a few minutes, or may take hours. If you're still in the channel, someone will eventually offer

09:47 dimitris I have the following problem: when a file is created on the master volume of a geo-replicated cluster, it appears with zero bytes and zero hard links on the slave
09:48 dimitris anyone familiar with this?

11:29 Chris__ Hello all!
11:29 Chris__ I have few questions about Gluster, NFS and PHP.
11:29 Chris__ Do people run PHP websites from Gluster?
11:29 Chris__ Gluster NFS mounts?
11:30 Chris__ I mena like WordPress etc?
11:30 Chris__ Well, I'm trying to run Concrete5 and I have some issues
11:31 Chris__ First thing first
11:32 Chris__ glusterfs-libs-3.12.1-2.el7.x86_64 glusterfs-api-3.12.1-2.el7.x86_64 glusterfs-client-xlators-3.12.1-2.el7.x86_64 glusterfs-cli-3.12.1-2.el7.x86_64 nfs-ganesha-gluster-2.5.2-1.el7.x86_64 glusterfs-3.12.1-2.el7.x86_64 glusterfs-fuse-3.12.1-2.el7.x86_64 glusterfs-server-3.12.1-2.el7.x86_64 glusterfs-gnfs-3.12.1-2.el7.x86_64
11:33 Chris__ so fairly latest Gluster installed
11:34 Chris__ but then when I do something like "time tree" on folder with quite a few files I get this:
11:34 Chris__ 28652 directories, 13560 files  real    0m48.142s user    0m0.426s sys     0m4.302s
11:34 Chris__ 48 seconds!
11:34 Klas fast for that many files
11:34 shyam joined #gluster
11:34 Klas gluster is not fast for many files
11:35 Chris__ local disk. pretty much samefiles:
11:35 Chris__ 9223 directories, 14080 files  real    0m2.145s user    0m0.128s sys     0m0.235s
11:35 Chris__ 2 sec
11:35 Chris__ 2 vs 48
11:35 Klas gluster stats each file sequencially and waits for each server to answer
11:35 Chris__ Klas: any chance to speed it up?
11:35 Klas so, latency, both between servers and between client, matters greatly
11:36 Klas slightly yes, but not greatly
11:36 Klas as a general principle, gluster is not a good fit for small files
11:36 Chris__ Volume Name: c5-gfs Type: Replicate Volume ID: 8930a490-080b-4227-a0b9-e825f40567d9 Status: Started Snapshot Count: 0 Number of Bricks: 1 x 2 = 2 Transport-type: tcp Bricks: Brick1: ainaz-01-gfs:/dontwritetome/brick/c5 Brick2: ainaz-02-gfs:/dontwritetome/brick/c5 Options Reconfigured: nfs.drc: on cluster.lookup-optimize: off network.inode-lru-limit: 90000 performance.md-cache-timeout: 600 performance.cache-invalidation: on performan
11:36 Klas too much overhead per file
11:36 Chris__ So I see....
11:36 Klas it goes about twice as fast over nfs in my experience
11:36 sunkumar joined #gluster
11:37 Chris__ I'm playing with optimizations but getting nowhere
11:37 Chris__ Yes, this is NFS from gluster
11:37 Chris__ for whatever reason ganesha was EVEN slower!
11:37 Chris__ Could not get Ganesha to speed up so I'm using NFS from gluster
11:38 Chris__ it's like 10x faster than Ganesha
11:38 Chris__ And that's the mount for nfs: mount -t nfs -o vers=3,rw,nolock,async,noacl,noatime,nodiratime ainaz-02-gfs:/c5-gfs /c5-gfs/
11:38 Chris__ so basically not much more can be done?
11:39 Chris__ Would SMB(CIFS) be any faster or slower? I guess slower... but better ask
11:40 ivan_rossi left #gluster
11:40 apandey joined #gluster
11:45 ^andrea^ joined #gluster
11:49 Klas probably slower
11:49 Klas nfs single node is usually the fastest
11:49 Klas haven't tried HA NFS in my tests actually
11:49 baber joined #gluster
11:54 Chris__ OK, thnaks Klas
11:54 Chris__ I've tried Ganesha but kind of single node only
11:55 Chris__ And it was very very slow so I guess I've done something wrong
11:55 Klas maybe
11:56 Klas gluster is really quite slow with loads of files
11:56 Chris__ My understanding is that everyone will be moved to Ganesha in the future anyway?
11:56 Chris__ OK
11:56 Klas dunno =)
11:56 Klas just a helpful user ;)
11:56 Chris__ That's what it says on the tin ;-) (well, when you try enabling NFS in Gluster rather than Ganesha

12:26 Chris__ features.cache-invalidation should be on or off for small files?
12:26 Chris__ I have it on
12:27 Chris__ same with performance.cache-invalidation
12:27 Chris__ And I've set this:
12:27 Chris__ network.inode-lru-limit 1000000
12:27 Chris__ nfs.drc off
12:28 Chris__ features.cache-invalidation-timeout 600
12:28 Chris__ and for md:
12:28 Chris__ performance.md-cache-timeout 600

13:09 abyrvalg what tools can be used instead of iostat?
13:10 abyrvalg we need to see io stats on gluster clients.
13:13 Klas maybe sar?
13:13 Klas uncertain

23:07 bobloblian Hi Gluster Gurus.  I have a replicated volume with dovecot running on it.  When mail gets delivered to an inbox, sometimes the mail client doesn't see it until after I run a ls on the directory.  in poking around just now, I also found that in addtion to the client not picking up the new mail, one of the nodes was not listing the files, but as soon as I did ls on the other node, it all showed up...
23:09 bobloblian would I be missing a configuration or something?  I haven't read anything yet that indicates this should be happening...
