10:31 timmmey Hi everyone, may I ask you a question? I'm trying to setup a geo-replication enviroment with to nodes. The node, which should be the geo-slave later, currently holds the data as an gluster simple volume with ~2tb data. The volume of the future master node should be on an external hdd, whitch is currently connected to the future slave node and will be connected later to the slave node. Is there any option to prepare the master volume
10:31 timmmey without setting up a geo-replication slave->master and after reaching the checkpoint reversing the setup ? I was thinking if I could just rsync the brick to the external hdd, to speed up the whole initial setup, connect the external hdd to the master, create a volume with force option and the setup the geo replicaiton?
10:32 timmmey sorry, two typos: .... with *two nodes....  be connected later to the *master node. Is there ...

14:30 marc_888 Hello, does anyone knows if there is an issue upgrading Gluster from 3.7.20 to latest directly? From the Gluster Docs upgrade procedures all are the same: stop all Gluster services >> upgrade Gluster >> restart Gluster . But it seems that did not worked for me ... Also somewhere along the way the Gluster service changed from gluster-server to glusterd ... god knows where ...
14:32 marc_888 I am talking about a simple 3-nodes replicate cluster.

17:10 Guest83 Quick question, from a VM perf and storage load perspective, is it better to use a sparse qcow2 on top of nfs ganesha (with VFS or Gluster FSAL) or with libgfapi directly ?
17:11 cloph def. libgfapi
17:12 Guest83 I'm using it today with an gluster 3.8 works fine, so I was wondering with the nfs-ganesha :p thx !

19:38 Teknologeek 5 * ( 4 + 2 )
19:39 Teknologeek After reboot and / filled at 100% because of some logs, gluster mount point only shows like 1/5 of storage capacity with df
19:40 Teknologeek Altough all bricks are up and running
19:40 Teknologeek It fails with nfs and fuse clients
19:40 Teknologeek It is as if gluster could only see 1 subvolume instead of 5

19:47 tdasilva joined #gluster
19:48 cholcombe you'll likely have to dump some of the data overboard to get it to start back up is my guess
19:49 Teknologeek Yes i cleaned
19:49 Teknologeek There is enough free space now
19:50 Teknologeek But all the cluster is behaving in a stange way
19:50 msvbhat joined #gluster
19:51 Teknologeek Already solved tvis issue once by rebuilding the cluster but i can t really do that in prodyction
19:51 JoeJulian Create a new mount, check the free space on that mount. If wrong, share the log file for that mount to a ,,(paste) site and share the link here.
19:51 glusterbot For a simple way to paste output, install netcat (if it's not already) and pipe your output like: | nc termbin.com 9999
19:52 Teknologeek I have wrong size too in new mount point
19:53 Teknologeek Can t connect to the cluster right now tho
19:53 Teknologeek Need some inputs to check tomorrow
19:54 JoeJulian Ok, I would start by checking that log file for errors (' E '). Ensure it's actually connecting to all the bricks (netstat) (not 24007, that's management).
19:55 Teknologeek Yes i checked that
19:56 Teknologeek I had some glustershd processes not going down when stopping glusterd daemon
19:56 Teknologeek Then i noticed that some connections to the bricks were refused
19:57 Teknologeek After some restarts tho all the bricks seems to be connected and no more errors in the logs
19:57 Teknologeek But size is still wrong
20:00 Teknologeek I think that there may be a problem with glustershd ... i dont understand why they can t stop when systemctl stop
20:12 Teknologeek Nobody e perienced the same kind of issue ?
20:12 Teknologeek With erasure coded volumes ?

20:45 Leolo_2 ok, I think I see the problem : the VMs have eth0 (10.0.0.0/24) and eth1 (10.30.0.0/24).  the peer probe was done via eth1.  but the client is on eth0
20:46 Leolo_2 for instance, if I do `mount -t glusterfs 10.30.0.91:/gv00 /gv00` it works but `mount -t glusterfs 10.0.0.91:/gv00 /gv00` it fails
20:46 Leolo_2 10.30.0.91 is eth1 of the OTHER vm.  10.0.0.91 is eth0 of the OTHER vm

22:03 JoeJulian @later tell Teknologeek The only thing that doesn't stop with glusterd is glusterfsd. That's by design. There are more occasions than not that you'll want to stop the management daemon without interrupting your bricks.
22:03 glusterbot JoeJulian: The operation succeeded.
22:04 bturner joined #gluster
22:06 JoeJulian Leolo_2: do your hostnames (eg gl01-30) resolve and are reachable from the VMs?
22:11 Leolo_2 yes
22:13 Leolo_2 gl01-30 can ping gl02-30 and vis versa.

22:44 JoeJulian Leolo_2: Sorry, I probably had my question wrong. "when I try from another computer" that's where I'm asking about.
22:48 shyam joined #gluster
23:00 Leolo_2 joejulian - the "other computer" is called scott.  it has IP 10.0.0.5.  it is not on the 10.30.0.0/24 network.  it can ping 10.0.0.91 (gl01) and 10.0.0.92 (gl02)  it can not ping 10.30.0.91 (gl01-30) nor 10.30.0.92 (gl02-30)
23:02 JoeJulian There's your problem. Have "scott" resolve gl01-30 to the 10.0 address.
23:02 JoeJulian addresses.
23:03 Leolo_2 wut?
23:04 Leolo_2 so scott has to see gl01-30 as 10.0.0.91 ?
23:04 JoeJulian Right. Your servers are going to tell your client that the brick's are on gl01-30 and gl02-30. If the client cannot resolve those hostnames it will not be able to connect to the bricks.
23:04 Leolo_2 that ... OH !
23:05 Leolo_2 that's really ackward, no?
23:06 JoeJulian Not once you learn about how the translators work and that the client needs to communicate with all the bricks.
23:06 Leolo_2 right
23:06 JoeJulian If *I* were doing your network, I would have a single hostname with split-network resolution.
23:06 Leolo_2 so I put 2 lines in /etc/hosts on scott and now it can mount
23:06 JoeJulian that'll work.
23:07 Leolo_2 I'm currently just playing with gluster to figure stuff out.  this isn't even close to my final install
23:11 Leolo_2 I have a question : why shouldn't I have multiple volumes that share an FS?
23:13 Leolo_2 /data/brick01 is the FS, /data/brick01/gv01 would be one volume, /data/brick01/gv02 would be a different volume and so on
23:44 MrAbaddon joined #gluster
23:45 JoeJulian Leolo_2: Typically when people do that they end up filling unevenly. You certainly can though.
23:45 JoeJulian I do.
23:48 shyam joined #gluster
23:49 Leolo_2 "filling unevenly"? do you mean some bricks fill up more then others?  or that some volumes fill up more then others (which is exactly why I want this)
23:52 msvbhat joined #gluster
23:56 JoeJulian Some bricks may, depending on how you define and use your volumes.
23:59 Leolo_2 if I'm only doing replication, that shouldn't be an issue
