07:04 ekarlso Hi guys, `gluster volume add-brick data ovirt1:/gluster/brick3/data` -> "volume add-brick: failed: Incorrect number of bricks supplied 1 with count 3" ?
07:05 Klas Manit: that is not the right design for gluster
07:08 sanoj joined #gluster
07:09 samppah kdhananjay: hi! do you have suggestions how to deal with stale locks on shards?
07:10 Klas Manit: gluster needs low-latency connections between both server nodes and client, or it will suck
07:10 gyadav_ joined #gluster
07:11 Klas ekarlso: jo need to add bricks corresponding to your replica count, so, in your case, you would need to add 3 at a time

07:42 Klas ndevos: to continue the principle of upgrading gluster I asked about yesterday, is it better to upgrade incremental versions or is it fine to jump several major releases at once?
07:43 Klas currently, it seems like going to 3.12 is the sane thing to do, I'm currently running 3.7.15

08:55 timmmey Hi, I wonder if you can help me with this: is there any way to setup a geo-replication without retransfering all data? The data on both servers are currently in sync and I would love to avoid a complete sync over WAN.
09:03 jkroon timmmey, rsync to add the required attributes?
09:03 jkroon (wild guess, as I've had major efforts myself to get two servers in sync recently.
09:04 timmmey are the extended attributes enough? And then recreate the .glusterfs folder by the find -exec stat thing?

09:14 gorkhaan Hi. I have this issue with userspace-rcu :  https://pastebin.com/CqaSgFa4   Why is it complaining?
09:14 glusterbot Please use http://fpaste.org or http://paste.ubuntu.com/ . pb has too many ads. Say @paste in channel for info about paste utils.
09:15 gorkhaan [root@xxxxxxx ~]# rpm -qa | grep userspace-rcu

09:23 timmmey Okay jkroon, I'm giving it a try, let the magic happen :)  rsync -rtXDlpgo --size-only --existing --exclude=.glusterfs
09:24 jkroon timmmey, hmm, why exclude .glusterfs?  shouldn't those files be created too?  I am, however, unsure as to the specific details of what's going on in .glusterfs and I was in the fortunate position where I could let gluster do it's thing (1G link is fine for moving 1.5TB of data, it just takes time)
09:25 jkroon timmmey, yea, try the find -exec stat thing.
09:25 jkroon worst case it'll start transferring data and you still won't be worse off than what you are right now.

09:30 timmmey I would never recomment rsyncing .glusterfs as long as the whole brick is not rsynced, because rsync will only correctly sync hardlinks when all files are synced in one transaction. with existing data this will lead to a brick with at least the doubled size and (presumably) a faulty volume

18:40 JoeJulian My first bit of help would be to suggest that disparaging a potential source of answers to your unasked question is not a great way to get started.
18:43 JoeJulian Klas: The design should allow for the jump of several versions at once. As with anything, I recommend testing first.
18:45 JoeJulian mrcirca_ocean: Dunno that the quorum algorithm has a name.

20:37 mallorn Unfortunately, they didn't fix all of the issues we're seeing.
20:40 Klas JoeJulian: yeah, the main issue is with how our provisioning works it's a bit hard to test without possible disruptions.
20:41 Klas not for prod systems, but for many dev/test systems, which of course is annoying enough
