18:58 codex hi
18:59 pdurbin moritz: meet codex. a friend and new ilbot user :)
19:00 codex moritz: hi
19:03 codex oh interesting, some of the stuff got re-orged. nice
19:04 pdurbin I haven't been following the latest :/
19:05 pdurbin codex: so you want ilbot to be packaged? for linux?
19:06 codex not packaged...just either cleaned up a bit (which it seems like has started) or/and having some basic readme
19:06 pdurbin ah. ok
19:06 pdurbin codex: do you care if it's on CPAN?
19:07 codex Here are the things that threw me off originally: I didn't realize a portion was shell stuff and a portion cgi, and a portion web
19:07 codex pdurbin: honestly, there's no reason to
19:07 pdurbin ok
19:07 * pdurbin dreams of `yum install ilbot` :)
19:07 codex once I understood how it was layed it, it seemed very easy to get it working - things just made sense.
19:07 codex haha
19:07 codex i actually stay away from "webapps" that are packaged
19:08 pdurbin hmm
19:08 codex usually what happens, especially for projects like this one, is taht they get out of date-- VERY quickly
19:08 codex Ubuntu is pretty good in staying semi-up to date (imo anyway) and even they tend to be quite behind
19:09 codex one solution would be creating your own yum and deb repo (like puppetlabs) and then cloning a copy of your github repo there
19:09 pdurbin yeah, that's why I set up http://yum.greptilian.com
19:09 moritz hi
19:10 moritz codex: the 'nextgen' branch has a cleaner idea of separation of directories (static files vs. config files, for example), and installability in mind
19:10 moritz I just need to port the search to the new branch, and do some more cleanup, then I can merge it
19:11 moritz oh, and I think I need to write an installer
19:11 moritz I've never done this before :-)
19:11 codex oh very nice
19:12 moritz and there's a plack interface
19:12 pdurbin moritz: you probably don't need to write an installer
19:12 moritz so you can say 'plackup ilbot.psgi' and have a dev server running locally
19:13 moritz pdurbin: why not?
19:13 codex moritz: can you log password protected channels?
19:13 moritz codex: no (haven't tried yet)
19:14 codex so Bot::BasicBot seems to do it by simply providing '#channel pass'
19:14 codex (join in that is)
19:15 moritz then it's probably easy to add to ilbot2.pl
19:15 codex the only separation would be to flag somehow a "private" section on the web portion so that for that section some sort of web auth can be added
19:15 moritz well, you'd just do that with htaccess
19:16 moritz in the 'nextgen' branch, I want to have search URLs as /$channel/$date/search
19:16 codex oh yea, each channel is it's own path. That's right
19:16 moritz so you can easily give anything below /$channel/ it's own password without fiddling with ilbot
19:19 pdurbin codex: you and your privacy... I thought privacy was dead ;)
19:21 pdurbin moritz: I guess I wouldn't mind seeing what you come up as an installer. I'd probably prefer it to be packaged into a distribution on CPAN and then in yum and deb repos
19:23 codex pdurbin: i am in 2 channels - one from my old job (and they hate all bots, but that's another story), but one which is still a college computer club that I used to help run - anyway, a lot of creativity would go down if people were censored - which they will assume if it's public. Currently, my bot logs taht channel and outputs to an auth website
19:24 codex pdurbin: i actually added that reader I wrote for you recently. Fixed it up quite a bit so it parses links/html correctly
19:25 pdurbin reader...
19:26 codex moritz: if you can, divide into folders: 'cgi' (all web related), 'configs', 'database', 'scripts' (contains bot itself)
19:26 codex in the main folder, just have the folders, a readme, and that's it :)
19:26 codex maybe a 'libs' folder for all the perl stuff
