12:23 captnfab hi, I've got a bug with ilbot
12:23 captnfab it refuses to join a channel
12:23 captnfab it used to join it without any problem
12:23 captnfab it joins other channels on the same irc server
12:24 captnfab the channel isn't restricted and I can join it using the bot's username/password/nickname with an IRC client
12:24 captnfab I'm a bit lost
12:27 moritz so, you said it worked before
12:27 moritz what changed since then?
12:27 captnfab I can't think of a think that changed
12:28 moritz is the IRC server under your control?
12:28 captnfab no, it's freenode
12:28 captnfab could a database problem prevent the bot from joining a chan?
12:29 captnfab in case the bot would have been killed ?
12:30 moritz captnfab: if there's a DB problem, you should see that in the terminal where you run the logger
12:31 captnfab no such message
12:32 captnfab I just have "perl ./myilbot/bin/ilbot2.pl myilbot/config/bot.conf" "Launching logger...\nTrying to connect to '#df-flood'\nTrying to connect to '#df-staff'\nTrying to connect to '#df-asso'\nTrying to connect to '#df-ca'\nTrying to connect to '#debian-facile'"
12:32 captnfab (with real newlines, no \n)
12:32 captnfab it won't join #debian-facile
12:33 captnfab but it joins all other chans
12:34 captnfab no matter the order of the chans in the config file
12:36 moritz captnfab: what I'd do in this case is create a copy of the config file (change the nick name of the bot in there) with only #debian-facile configured
12:36 moritz captnfab: and then use strace or tcpdump to figure out what's going on
12:37 moritz the IRC protocol is pretty readable, so if you don't use SSL for that (no idea if freenode offers SSL), you should see what the server answers
12:37 captnfab haha
12:37 captnfab good thinking
12:38 captnfab thx, I'll try that
13:04 captnfab moritz: hihi: Cannot.join.channel.(+b).-.you.are.banned.
13:04 captnfab it's an IP ban, that's why I could join the chan in my tests…
13:05 moritz captnfab: that explains a lot :-)
13:10 captnfab yeah, an op tried to ban a user with a message "in case you don't agree, contact the admins @debian-facile.org"
13:10 captnfab but ban command doesn't take ban message
13:10 captnfab so in banned @debian-facile.org
13:10 captnfab and a lot of people I guess…
13:20 captnfab well, many thanks moritz, you bot is very useful and works like a charm :)
13:20 captnfab bye
13:22 moritz ciao
