02:07 cj diakopter: they're talking about parrot at the SPUG meeting now
02:08 cj the internets suck here
02:09 diakopter spug?
02:09 cj seattle perl users' group
02:09 diakopter you think the internets suck there, I'm on a train.
02:10 diakopter amrtrak
02:10 cj I used to do that.  it sucks here just as much
02:11 diakopter gprs
02:11 cj are closures part of the perl6 language still?
02:11 diakopter yeah
02:12 diakopter all blocks are closures
02:12 cj I heard fuzyness on that a year ago
02:13 diakopter oh?
02:13 diakopter what about
02:13 diakopter context?
02:15 diakopter gtg.. losing signal
02:17 cj I was at lang.net last year, and larry was talking about closures maybe not  being required to implement a perl6 interpreter
02:28 diakopter oh, well closures can be constructed on any system that provides its own symbol tables
02:29 diakopter wait, do you mean continuations
02:29 diakopter like you wrote in that blog entry
02:31 diakopter cj: bump
02:34 cj yeah, I mean continuations.  they start with the same letter.
02:34 cj hash collisions are common on systems with only 26 buckets
02:40 diakopter continuations aren't first-class, but they'd be nice to have.
02:41 diakopter in the VM/host
02:41 cj yeah.  it seems unlikely that it will even be in the DLR, much less the CLR.  woe.
02:41 diakopter well, tycho implements them on the clr
02:42 cj c'est la vie
02:42 diakopter :) what?
02:42 diakopter what's wrong with selecting tycho over the DLR?
02:43 cj lag
02:44 cj tycho.  like penny arcade?
02:44 diakopter it's like the DLR, but newer.
02:49 diakopter if anyone can ctatch up to rakudo/pugs in a few short weeks, it would be someone using something like tycho and ometa#'s parser system.  http://code.google.com/p/tycho/
02:50 diakopter I tried npeg, but gave up
02:51 diakopter I guess it's back to using STD/viv (larry's parser)
02:51 diakopter actually i thought about gcc-cil earlier
02:51 diakopter if you could get perl to build with gcc-cil....... that would.... rock.
02:52 diakopter gtg4now
02:53 cj tata
05:26 diakopter (back)
14:15 cj morning :)
14:16 cj so... gcc-cil...
14:16 cj I haven't tried compiling it in a while...
14:16 cj but the reason they added that libm and binutils stuff recently was because I asked what it would take to get perl5 building on it
14:16 cj so they seem interested in getting it going
14:17 cj d'oh.  I was going to fix some connectivity problems when I was home last night, but I forgot...
14:18 cj this will be much easier when I'm not working in Redmond every day.  keeping the house while not commuting is another question...
14:19 cj I'm impressed with the connectivity on the microsoft shuttles
14:52 diakopter where're you gonna work after redmond campus?
17:12 cj dunno.  maybe for monty project?  maybe a short stint at whitepages?  maybe a place in New York?
17:12 cj got any leads? :)
18:12 diakopter oh :)
18:12 diakopter well, no
