11:02 joshu hi guys
11:18 Goodbox yo joshu
11:19 joshu Goodbox hi are you an ubuntu user?
11:19 Goodbox no sorry
11:19 Goodbox however I can help you anyway
11:19 joshu ok ;)
11:20 joshu I'm trying to build a deb package first time that I can use to deploy to many ubuntu machines…there is unforutnaley not a pre-built package for this open source software that works so I've had to do it myself :(
11:21 joshu i'm using check install and this command
11:21 joshu sudo checkinstall -fstrans=no -install=no -pkgversion="1.1.0-beta1" -pkgname=freerdp -y -requires=libavcodec53
11:21 joshu this works and creates the deb, but when I copy it to another machine to install with sudo dpkg -i *deb I get an error that the dependency libavcodec53 is not installed. I thought that the package I created would install this automatically. What am I missing?
11:22 joshu I'll be right back in 5 min just need to answer door
11:23 Goodbox All boxes are using same repositories ?
11:23 Goodbox the same*
11:32 joshu sorry back now
11:32 joshu I'm just scp the deb to each machine
11:37 Goodbox Yes, but the differents machines are using the same version on ubuntu ?
11:38 Goodbox Maybe you should create a local repository for your lan which contain all dependencies required by your package
11:40 joshu yes correct same version of ubuntu 13.04
11:40 joshu the problem is that these machines are not on the LAN they are laptops in remote locations.

20:05 joshu anyone here who understands PAM?
20:16 coyotus joined #linuxvillage
20:22 melodie joined #linuxvillage
20:27 melodie salut !
20:29 joshu hi melodie
20:29 joshu do you know how PAM works? I've been trying to figure this out all day :(
20:29 joshu I've spent all day trying to get the username and password passed to the desktop file Exec= and all I can do is get the username and password echoed to a text file. I haven't been able to figure out how to pass the two arguments to the desktop file and start the session
20:31 melodie joshu I don't know how pam works, but what you want to achieve might be something else. what effect do you want to achieve ?
20:31 melodie do you want the user to be connected directly to the desktop without a login screen ?
20:31 joshu no
20:32 melodie then what ?
20:32 joshu the user gets the lightdm login and enters username and password
20:32 joshu they hit enter
20:32 melodie ok
20:32 melodie then what ?
20:32 joshu the xfreerdp command is executed with their username and password like this
20:32 joshu xfreerdp /u:username /p:password
20:32 joshu that's it
20:32 melodie then what ?
20:33 joshu I have it working without the username and password being passed in
20:33 melodie and you should not have it working that way?
20:34 melodie what about pam, is there a file related to xfreerdb in /etc/pam.d directory?
20:34 joshu I've spent all day messing with PAM but I can only get the username and password echoed to a text file not passed to the /usr/share/xsessions/test.desktop file
20:35 melodie please give me a direct answer to the question I asked you
20:36 melodie this will make it more simple for me to try to help you
20:37 joshu I have answered you melodie
20:37 melodie <melodie> what about pam, is there a file related to xfreerdb in /etc/pam.d directory?
20:38 melodie you have not answered
20:38 melodie please if there is one such file paste it to http://pastebin.com
20:38 joshu I have explained that the user logs into the lightdm greeter, the username and password should be passed to the /usr/share/xsessions/test.desktop file where the Exec=xfreerdp /u:$PAM_USER /p:$PAM_PASSWORD.
20:38 joshu there isn't a file called xfreerdp in the /etcpam.d directory
20:38 melodie joshu ok, that's what I asked
20:39 melodie the you don't need to try anything with pam
20:39 melodie you can  ask help at the linuxvillage forum, or go from my part to #crimsonfu, there are very keen people there
20:49 melodie joshu it's midnight here, but #crimsonfu is a chan for admins sys who help each other with a bunch of people from US so you can go there
20:49 joshu melodie ok thanks ;)
20:50 melodie welcome :)
20:58 melodie good night !
