21:51 melodie ça va slystone ?
22:01 melodie slystone ça devrait te plaire ce tuto, tu en as déjà monté non ? http://open-freax.fr/tuto-creer-piratebox
22:07 slystone melodie: je regarde :)
22:08 melodie :)

22:39 maatunix Quiet ?
22:40 phillw Hmm, it appears you need to be voiced to speak. Each area has its own set of rules :)

22:46 melodie phillw do you know anyone in the lubuntu team, apart from gilir who might send me in some sources and docs which I will probably not be able to understand, someone who could help me learn how to customize the theme for the boot of the isos?
22:46 melodie here is my thread related to the research I did before:
22:47 melodie http://forum.linuxvillage.org/index.php?topic=158.0
22:47 melodie this is all about customizing isolinux in Ubuntu
22:49 phillw melodie: I know nothing about building ISO's... i only break them :D
22:49 melodie this might be an idea
22:49 melodie I could try to break some things in the isolinux directory just before remastering next time
22:50 melodie for example, remove the bootlogo file to see what happends
22:50 melodie -d
22:50 melodie happens
22:51 phillw there are a couple of people within lubuntu that could well help you out. The guy who looks after Lubuntu-Fake would be best to to assist.
22:57 melodie oh what is Lubuntu-Fake?
23:00 melodie phillw I was looking on the web if I could find new clues about this topic :)
23:00 melodie I don't find much so far
23:00 phillw melodie: it is using fake-pae for celeron M chipsets... https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Lubuntu-fake-PAE has all the details. it is what is termed as a 'community spin'. It cannot be held on the official tracker, but I hold it (along with others) on my iso server area and they are welcome to update the wiki pages for their spin.
23:01 phillw We've just had the alternates re-spun... So I'm heading back to them!
23:01 melodie that's very nice!
23:01 melodie ok :)
23:02 melodie how can I find the guy of the lubuntu-fake spins?
23:02 phillw nio is a star on may areas, he is also an avid tester and reporter of bugs :)
23:02 phillw *many*
23:03 melodie is nio the one who could help me with isolinux theming?
23:03 melodie or sudodus perhaps?
23:05 phillw melodie: https://launchpad.net/~nio-wiklund is his lp address. have a chat; but only after 13.10 is safely out... they're coiled like cobras to strike as soon as the 16.1 final release goes in for testing. I'm just about to zsync up and re-do the two alternates I can...
23:05 phillw They're waiting on the desktop versions, which should follow in about the next hour, or two.
23:06 melodie yes of course, and also I have read and answered on the qa ml to and from nio wiklund
23:06 melodie reading here now:
23:06 melodie https://launchpad.net/~prof7bit/+archive/fake-pae
23:06 melodie I wonder if the fake pae provides large disk access as pae does?
23:07 melodie in Bento Village I put only generic kernels
23:07 melodie the people who need pae are free to install it later
23:07 melodie I mistake
23:07 melodie pae is for access to memory
23:07 melodie I don't know why I mistook
23:08 melodie 4 GB ram and more, right?
23:08 melodie @lucky PAE
23:08 crimsonfubot melodie: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Physical_Address_Extension
23:12 pdurbin +1
23:14 melodie pdurbin I don't yet understand the point of fake-pae, versus generic kernel. ie:
23:14 melodie https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Lubuntu-fake-PAE
23:14 melodie quote:
23:15 melodie There are many high-quality professional class laptops around with Pentium M CPUs, for example IBM Thinkpad T40, T41 and T42.
23:15 melodie well here is the information about T42 on thinkwiki:
23:15 melodie http://www.thinkwiki.org/wiki/Category:T42
23:15 melodie features section:
23:15 melodie 256, 512MB or 1GB PC2700 memory standard, 2GB maximum
23:15 melodie so ?
23:16 melodie I fear the exemples are not relevant
23:18 melodie unless I miss something, for instance "which kernels are really available in ubuntu after the last lTS?"
23:20 phillw melodie: read the section https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Lubuntu-fake-PAE#Introduction I've gtg, got 6 tests to carry out :(
23:20 melodie http://packages.ubuntu.com/saucy/linux-image-3.11.0-12-generic
23:20 melodie phillw sure, thanks! I wish you can get through the testing with the best results!
23:22 phillw the support was dropped from the kernel, just as the same reason lubuntu keeps https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Lubuntu/Documentation/MinimalInstall#A10.04
23:23 phillw that also dropped a whole load of elderly chip sets.
23:29 melodie ok but this: http://packages.ubuntu.com/saucy/linux-image-3.11.0-12-generic is a generic kernel for saucy, unless there is still something I didn't understand about it?
23:30 phillw melodie: yes, the update system checks for the pae flag. those chips mentioned do have pae capability, but do not advertise it. So, the install / upgrades / updates etc. will fail.
23:31 melodie phillw another idea popped up in my mind while I was reading the pages about the fake-pae:
23:31 melodie how about asking the devs to make it available at the start of the live, with one of the options provided through F1 to F6?
23:32 phillw not going to happen :) The devs strive toward the new kit. the installer we have no control over.
23:33 melodie phillw what about creating a blueprint to suggest it? never know if someone won't be interested, perhaps it's a very simple thing to do for them?
23:33 phillw We did ask that a simple check be put in for if it was an 'M' chip and it was refused owing to small number of machines that would needit.
23:34 phillw and, as ubiquity is so broken at the moment? I'd hate to be resonsible for adding some new factor to it :P
23:34 melodie phillw the other thought I have is how many machines have the pae hidden flag but not the ability to use as much as 4 GB ram anyway?
23:35 phillw ask nio, it is his project and as such he has direct access to my iso server to upload updates for people.
23:35 melodie if doing a new non official spin is just a matter of adding one config file, why not simply provide it with a generic kernel which will allow any non pae machine to boot ? (all non pae flags together)
23:36 melodie phillw ok, I'll try to ask him to have some conversations once this Lubuntu Saucy will be officially launched :)
23:36 phillw because using the fake-pae flag has adantages such as being able to get new kernels without a full re-install.
23:37 melodie this will certainly be a pleasure.
23:37 phillw I'm sure his wiki (and ISO's) will be updated once 13.10 lands.
23:37 melodie getting new kernels is not always an advantage.
23:38 melodie however having the possibility to get this upstart job through a ppa is interesting
23:38 melodie else, having the possibility to enable it at the boot of the live would be a good idea
23:39 melodie instead of making it a project apart from the main one
23:39 phillw all my ISO's are zsync'd up... Hi Ho, off to testing land we go, with a small cuss here and a small cuss there.. Hi Ho, Hi Ho :D
23:39 melodie LOL !
23:39 melodie great phillw, on my side it's time to go get some sleep.
23:40 melodie Feel at home here !
23:40 melodie bonne nuit à tous
23:40 melodie good night
23:41 phillw it is 00:40 here. Hopefully have the alternates done by :03:00
23:41 melodie it's later here one hour later
23:42 * phillw just to announce, I'll be lurking on ##phillw while we get the tests completed. I'll be back later!
