14:37 melodie salut
14:57 pdurbin 'lut
14:58 pdurbin are there any good IRC tutorials for newbies?
15:11 melodie hi pdurbin yes, probably
15:11 melodie what level newbie are we talking about?
15:11 melodie age, how used to fiddle with software?
15:13 pdurbin someone who has never heard of IRC
15:14 pdurbin someone who is familiar with Facebook
15:14 pdurbin maybe Twitter
15:14 melodie but used to put nose into docs or not?
15:14 melodie in English?
15:14 pdurbin for now, English :)
15:14 pdurbin someone who is too busy to read a long doc :)
15:15 pdurbin someone with a short attention span :)
15:16 melodie I'd pick this one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8HiQmxmQXU0
15:16 melodie and this one: http://www.wikihow.com/Get-Started-with-IRC-%28Internet-Relay-Chat%29
15:17 melodie he should be good to go then
15:17 melodie the video has a HD option to be able to see the content better
15:17 melodie which is very good
15:18 melodie and the second link provides some images and text that goes directly to the important parts without too long tech parts
15:18 melodie this said, from a very fast sight on them (after looking a 4 or 5 in ~= 14 seconds)
15:19 melodie the video lasts 2.41 minutes... short enough? :D
15:23 melodie pdurbin is that ok?
15:26 pdurbin melodie: I would prefer text rather than a video
15:28 melodie you have both
15:28 melodie both are good, depending on how the person gets the idea best
15:28 pdurbin I'm not sure I would like to that wikihow article. It's ok, I guess but not quite what I have in mind. And it has too many ads.
15:30 pdurbin This is what I'm thinking about... an IRC mission: https://github.com/opensourcedesign/slick/issues/16 :)
15:44 melodie ads can be removed with adblock plus
15:44 melodie and I usually know how very low tech people react
15:44 melodie they need lots of images rather than texts, and very simple instructions to follow
15:45 melodie this is why I picked these two
15:46 melodie I don't know about Slick
15:56 pdurbin melodie: I do like the screenshots. very helpful
15:57 pdurbin maybe someday the screenshots could be from Slick :)
15:58 melodie ok
15:58 melodie what is Slick?
16:07 pdurbin melodie: Slick looks a little bit like this: http://demo.shout-irc.com
16:08 melodie is is a web based IRC client?
16:09 pdurbin exactly
16:09 pdurbin Slick is built on top of Shout: https://github.com/opensourcedesign/slick
16:11 melodie aha
16:12 melodie interesting idea
16:12 melodie I would fancy myself using that
16:12 melodie does it support multiple channels?
16:13 pdurbin yep!
16:14 melodie are you co-working on this project?
16:17 pdurbin melodie: well, I set up http://chat.dataverse.org at least. It's running Shout. What do you think?
16:19 melodie are you a tester? a user?
16:20 melodie well, it seems to me that it is as many User Interfaces as chans
16:20 melodie not that handy
16:21 pdurbin I guess I'd call myself a Shout user since I set up (and customized) http://chat.dataverse.org
16:21 melodie what tool do you use to come here, and to #crimsonfu and other chans on freenode?
16:21 melodie ok
16:21 pdurbin weechat: https://weechat.org
16:21 melodie ok
16:21 pdurbin melodie: "not that handy"? what do you mean?
16:22 melodie I like to gather the chans rather than have them splitted into several tools
16:22 melodie this is why I asked you about Slick and multiple channels
16:23 pdurbin melodie: do you see "#foo, #shout-irc" at http://demo.shout-irc.com ? Shout and Slick do support multiple channels.
16:24 melodie yes I guess I get that.
16:24 pdurbin ok :)
16:24 pdurbin so it *is* handy! :)
16:25 melodie it can be
16:25 pdurbin heh
16:25 melodie <pdurbin> melodie: well, I set up http://chat.dataverse.org at least. It's running Shout. What do you think? || I think it's meant for one channel only :)
16:26 pdurbin oh
16:26 pdurbin well
16:27 pdurbin http://chat.dataverse.org is handy for *Dataverse* users because they don't have to think about the fact that there are lots of channels (and networks!) on IRC. :)
16:28 melodie ok :D
16:28 melodie this is a defendable point of view (where there is more than one choice some get confused)

16:59 melodie salut coyotus :)
17:01 coyotus salut
17:16 coyotus oui
17:16 coyotus quand même
17:19 melodie super !
17:36 melodie coyotus http://linuxvillage.org/wp-content/uploads/images/sushi-trusty-rc.png
17:36 coyotus merci
17:36 coyotus je dois go ++
17:36 melodie pdurbin and the gui in English : http://linuxvillage.org/wp-content/uploads/images/en-sushi-trusty-rc.png
17:36 melodie bonne soirée coyotus
17:37 melodie pdurbin the web browser is a bit jerky : http://linuxvillage.org/wp-content/uploads/images/2-en-sushi-trusty-rc.png
18:50 pdurbin melodie: right, my goal is to not confuse people... just pretend like there's only one channel (#dataverse) and the only thing they have to think about is what they want their nickname to be (which I call "username" since it's more familiar).
18:51 pdurbin perhaps you can tell that I've read this book: Don't Make Me Think - https://www.sensible.com/dmmt.html :)
18:54 melodie let me look
18:56 melodie I could be interested
18:57 pdurbin it's a great book
