20:26 melodie salut :)
20:44 melodie hi
20:44 melodie pdurbin are you around?
20:44 melodie or at the beach maybe :)
22:07 pdurbin melodie: sort of around
22:09 melodie hi pdurbin
22:09 melodie how are you?
22:09 melodie I have talked about edx.org to someone today, on Skype
22:11 melodie else, I discovered the methods used by two other people to create an Ubuntu with Openbox : one has a real advantage with the method to create a session (he wrote a patch for xdgsettingsd allowing to have a real session very clean technically)
22:11 melodie and the other has added gui tools : not perfect technically but working and if I can find people to make it better, it could be used in Bento
22:12 melodie the first one gave me the info for me to use them, and the second I registered to their forum and wait to see if something from Bento might interest them
22:12 melodie so I'd like to open the Bento project to more people
22:13 melodie if you know people seeking for a project to join, there is a list and a gitlab
22:13 melodie here is the list, http://www.freelists.org/list/bento-dev
22:13 melodie here is gitlab: https://gitlab.com/bento-openbox
22:14 melodie well this is very exciting, I have redone packages from one and other projects in vbox, opened the packages in my host, as if they were Xmas presents and went through all the files
22:15 melodie while I have not learned coding I can understand part of it and how it works :d
22:15 melodie at least for the main parts
22:20 pdurbin joined #linuxvillage
22:20 melodie welcome back pdurbin
22:21 pdurbin huh. netsplit I guess
22:21 pdurbin melodie: you could add bento to http://openhatch.org
22:21 melodie hum let me look
22:22 pdurbin although to be honest I've had trouble with this: https://github.com/circuits/circuits/issues/29
22:22 melodie should I prepare some kind of pitch elevator for the Bento Openbox project to be presented there?
22:23 pdurbin prologic and I wanted/want to add circuits to openhatch
22:24 pdurbin melodie: what does bento use for issue tracking?
22:24 melodie this is one of the projects you are working on?
22:24 melodie the linuxvillage forum
22:24 melodie and discussions by mail with a tester once a while
22:24 pdurbin melodie: well, I hang out in #openhatch and I went to an openhatch event. I had lunch with the founder and former director. nice people
22:25 melodie pdurbin the main goal now is to create new GUI for the end users and packages stuff for Debian/Ubuntu (on PPA to make it almost official and easier to get stuff pushed into Debian eventually later)
22:26 melodie as for the packages in Bento, if some are buggy we report bugs on the launchpad ppa or upstream : what is more relevant
22:26 pdurbin ok
22:26 melodie I'm happy you know the founder of openhatch
22:26 melodie does it have success?
22:26 pdurbin sure. some success
22:26 melodie good!
22:27 melodie here is the list of my reported bugs https://bugs.launchpad.net/~meets
22:27 melodie some were solved, fortunately
22:28 melodie some in that list are old and outdated too
22:28 melodie well what about a pitch elevator, necessary I'd guess?
22:28 pdurbin it's really good when people report bugs. helps the project a lot
22:29 melodie of course, that's the point :)
22:29 pdurbin melodie: I think you mean "elevator pitch" but just a few words is enough
22:29 melodie pdurbin that's the french way of saying it :D
22:29 melodie I didn't even know if that was the same in english
22:29 melodie ok
22:30 pdurbin ah. some friends just returned from France and said they were very happy to know at least some French (5 years in high school, long ago) outside of Paris.
22:30 melodie pdurbin how few? Would that example be ok? https://github.com/bento-dev/bento-dev
22:31 pdurbin this was enough for the circuits project by prologic - http://openhatch.org/projects/circuits
22:31 melodie next time, send your friends visit me, I'll get the visit the Cathare castles! (old medieval)
22:31 melodie ok
22:32 melodie pdurbin I am vaguely thinking of putting up a website of it's own for Bento.
22:32 melodie is that necessary, or is linuxvillage.org still good enough for the image of the project?
22:33 melodie I have vaguely the feeling that the project starts to be kind of spread around and would need a central link to point to..
22:37 pdurbin for crimsonfu I just use http://crimsonfu.github.io as a homepage
22:38 melodie aha
22:38 melodie I have to look what I can do on gitlab
22:39 melodie about circuits: why you devs never provide real life examples of what can be done with a given program? this is frustrating to just read code and how you can install it without really grabbing in which cases it can fit in?
22:40 pdurbin prologic: I guess melodie means the examples at http://circuitsframework.com/#examples aren't very big.
22:41 melodie pdurbin no, I mean what purpose does it serve?
22:42 pdurbin well, does "circuits is a Lightweight Event driven and Asynchronous Application Framework" make sense?
22:42 melodie ie: can you have the coffee ready by the time you fall of your bed on your way to work thanks to circuits? (integrated in whatever hardware, of course)
22:43 melodie pdurbin if by Event we think the program can be aware when the alarm clock has started, and then trigger the coffee machine to run, why not?
22:43 melodie see what I mean? :D
22:43 melodie how does the program can take a place in current life events?
22:44 pdurbin an "event" in an IRC channel is someone saying something
22:44 pdurbin or someone joining the channel
22:44 pdurbin that sort of thing
22:45 melodie even if it just allows creating the program to trigger an action started by an event
22:45 melodie anything that allows someone not introduced to programming concepts to see the final use it can lead to
22:46 melodie pdurbin an event in current life can be the phone recorder starting to record when the phone hasn't been answered after it rang 5 times.
22:47 melodie or any action taken by the oven depending on what is cooking and what has been setup for the time it needs to be ready?
22:47 melodie (fried chicken?) XD
22:51 pdurbin GUIs typically listen for "on click" events. (which are often a "tap" rather than a "click" on mobile)
22:53 pdurbin that is to say, a user clicking a button is an event
22:59 melodie yes
22:59 melodie this is the kind of thing which needs to be said clearly in any page presenting a program.
23:00 melodie I am also trying to change the presentation text related to Bento on github right now.
23:03 melodie hope it's ok now https://github.com/bento-dev/bento-dev/blob/master/README.md
23:09 pdurbin looks fine. a dead link here though: http://www.bentovillage.org/pipermail/bento-dev/2014-November/000023.html
23:11 melodie how did you find that one link? http://www.bentovillage.org/pipermail/bento-dev/2014-November/000023.html
23:12 melodie where from?
23:12 pdurbin with a search
23:12 pdurbin melodie: you should probably use http://bentovillage.org as the project site
23:13 melodie aha
23:13 melodie then I'll have to move it from where it is
23:13 melodie I do have http://bentovillage.me which is not used yet, what do you think?
23:17 melodie pdurbin bentovillage.org and what is left of the former mailing list are hosted at phillw.net on a virtual server managed by a young man
23:17 melodie the server is in France and the young man somewhere in US
23:18 melodie I need to ask them to fix it. the page you found is not even supposed to be still online.
23:30 pdurbin oh
23:32 melodie yes ^^
23:32 melodie pdurbin so what do you think about domain names? I own bentovillage.org and bentovillage.me : any of them would be good for the project?
23:35 pdurbin the .org one sounds fine
23:35 melodie and the .me doesn't?
23:36 pdurbin whatever is fine but I like .org domains better. call me a traditionalist
23:38 melodie lol
23:38 melodie have you seen the .cat domain?
23:52 captnfab meow.meow.cat
23:53 captnfab gn8 :)
23:59 melodie coucou
23:59 melodie gn
