00:05 jeffreykegler very well done, I thought.  I think the best thing to do with blog posts of this sort is to say enough so that your target audience knows what you've found ...
00:05 jeffreykegler and that if they want more details they can go elsewhere.
00:06 jeffreykegler Explaining that subtle difference between Perl and Javascript regex capture was a very good way to lead, I thought -- it really helps motivate the rest of the piece.

04:44 jeffreykegler I notice that "shadowpaste" has joined the room.  I think that's our paste-bot.
04:50 lucs jeffreykegler: That's the intention. My understanding is that at http://scsys.co.uk:8002/, #marpa should appear in the dropdown, but it hasn't happened yet.
04:51 lucs I believe mst will be looking into it.
04:51 jeffreykegler lucs: Many thanks for looking into this
04:51 lucs My pleasure.
04:52 jeffreykegler In my IRC client there is a "send file" option if you click on shadowpaste ...
04:52 lucs Oh, what happens if you do?
04:52 jeffreykegler so I take it that pasting is already possible
04:55 jeffreykegler It says "waiting for transfer" when I tried a test file.
04:55 lucs Hmm...
04:55 jeffreykegler Since it's all of 29 bytes, I assume that's a software issue, and not bandwidth. :-)
04:55 lucs Oh, maybe that's just an ordinary irc dcc file send?
04:56 jeffreykegler Perhaps.  I don't know much about IRC.
04:56 lucs Me neither :)
04:56 lucs Anyway, I'll try to catch mst later and ask him to explain this.
04:57 jeffreykegler But the shadowpaste user is unique is having that menu item, as opposed to just "info"
04:57 lucs Hmm...
04:57 lucs Note that you can also so  /msg shadowpaste help
04:57 lucs *do
04:58 lucs It doesn't mention 'send file' there, so not sure what's up with that.
07:35 ronsavage I'm using Pidgin. If I double-click in the right-hand panel on shadowpaste, it opens another tab. Can I just copy-and-paste code in there for all to see?
16:34 shadowpaste was kicked by lucs: shadowpaste

16:36 lucs mst told me that by /invite'ing shadowpaste to this channel, #marpa would appear in the 'channel:' dropdown list at http://scsys.co.uk:8002/
16:37 lucs Then, we could select #marpa there, and when we pasted using that form, a message would be sent to this channel.
16:41 lucs In the meanwhile, we can use http://scsys.co.uk:8002/ for nopastes, but we have to paste the resulting URL here manually.
16:44 lucs For example (and this is a real question I have): http://scsys.co.uk:8002/299316

17:56 jeffreykegler lucs: re http://irclog.perlgeek.de/marpa/2014-02-04#i_8230816 -- I'm looking at it.  At first glance, it seems to be a bug in Marpa::R2.
17:56 shadowpaste "lucs" at 70.81.138.180 pasted "Test" (3 lines) at http://scsys.co.uk:8002/299341
17:58 shadowpaste "jeffreykegler" at 108.70.209.173 pasted "test" (1 line) at http://scsys.co.uk:8002/299342
18:00 Topic for #marpa is now Logs: http://irclog.perlgeek.de/marpa/today Nopaste: http://scsys.co.uk:8002/marpa Current: https://metacpan.org/pod/Marpa::R2 Source: https://github.com/jeffreykegler/Marpa--R2
18:02 lucs jeffreykegler: Okay, thanks (re. blessings)

19:35 jeffreykegler lucs: The problem is that you're attempting to bless a rule that resolves to a scalar.  Semantices.pod says: "Only Perl objects pointed to by references can be blessed, and it is a fatal error to try to use a blessing with an inappropriate action."
19:35 jeffreykegler lucs: The Marpa::R2 bug is that you were not getting the fatal error message and a fix is in the works.
19:35 lucs jeffreykegler: Okay, that makes sense.
19:36 lucs But then, what is that sentence talking about?
19:38 lucs I try to make sense of the doc by constructing examples, but I'm not sure what a good example for that would be.
19:38 jeffreykegler There are other actions which are not rule evaluation closures -- array descriptor actions, for example, and these are very often blessed.
19:38 lucs Oh, I think I see.
19:45 shadowpaste "jeffreykegler" at 108.70.209.173 pasted "Revision to Marpa::R2::Semantics docs" (5 lines) at http://scsys.co.uk:8002/299381
19:45 jeffreykegler lucs: While the matter is fresh in my mind, I've reworded the doc.  I hope that it is slightly less murky.
19:46 lucs May I suggest, for the second line: "An action may happen not to be a rule..."
19:46 lucs But yeah, I understand now.
19:46 lucs Thanks.
19:47 lucs ("may not be" sounds like it's forbidden)
19:50 shadowpaste "jeffreykegler" at 108.70.209.173 pasted "Revised Marpa::R2::Semantics language" (5 lines) at http://scsys.co.uk:8002/299384
19:52 jeffreykegler lucs: Another attempt at it.  "may happen not to be" didn't, to my ear, have quite the right register for a technical doc.
19:53 lucs Yes, that one sounds great. Thanks.
19:54 lucs Actually, the original wording was all correct, but spelling out those details helps.
19:55 jeffreykegler lucs: Correct, or at least so impenetrable it could not be proved wrong. :-)
19:55 lucs :)
20:08 shadowpaste "jeffreykegler" at 108.70.209.173 pasted "Error message for barnul script" (8 lines) at http://scsys.co.uk:8002/299391
20:09 lucs Thanks :)
