00:00 jeffreykegler I've resisted making the SLIF, or any other Marpa interface, Turing-complete, because I've seen the consequences of doing that prematurely.
00:01 jeffreykegler I'm thinking, for example, of vi scripting, which is a good example of how bad things can happen when a Turing-complete language evolves and grows "organically"
00:02 jeffreykegler As I study the Lua interface I am realizing that many of the things that put me off about it are consequences of what I like about it.
00:03 jeffreykegler For example, Lua has a line-by-line syntax, with semantic whitespace, after the fashion of Python.
00:04 jeffreykegler I like Python, and found semantic whitespace seductive, but on the whole I think its disadvantages outweigh its advantages, especially in large codebases.
00:05 jeffreykegler Anyway, Lua does it this way because it is designed for simple embedding, and a line-by-line interpreter *is* easy to implement.
00:07 jeffreykegler I'm looking for a language which, as an extensible/embeddable language, will be Marpa's servant and not its master, and Lua seems expressly (and almost uniquely) designed with that in mind.

04:03 ronsavage So that's why you've been so quiet!
04:06 jeffreykegler Actually, most of my time has been devoted to a new version of the theory paper.

15:52 jeffreykegler Re Marpa-R2 2.087_002 --
15:52 jeffreykegler I haven't gotten any testing under Windows, which makes me nervous, ...
15:53 jeffreykegler since this release did heavily refactor the build logic, and Win32 is a very different build environment from the others.
15:55 jeffreykegler Ordinarily, I'd be making Marpa-R2 2.087_002 a stable, indexed CPAN release at this point, but I'd really like to see some Win32 testing before I do that.
18:40 jeffreykegler Marpa-R2-2.088000 was uploaded a few minutes ago.  Thanks to Ruslan S. and Jean-Damien for answering the last-minute call for testing!
18:41 jeffreykegler In theory, Marpa-R2-2.088000 is exactly the release candidate, modulo the version information, but testing, as always, is appreciated!
