04:43 ronsavage Thanx for the comments. I've finally caught up with the backlog.

10:58 rns re http://irclog.perlgeek.de/marpa/2014-08-23#i_9232551
11:02 rns I take it that it's Marpa::R2 that you're building, from cpan or repo.
11:04 rns looks like some lf/cr issue; never seen that
11:07 rns I'm on cygwin 1.7.29(0.272/5/3), under win xp sp3, using Cygwin terminal
11:07 rns re http://irclog.perlgeek.de/marpa/2014-08-23#i_9232779 and http://irclog.perlgeek.de/marpa/2014-08-23#i_9232783
11:09 rns Well I'm not much into cygwin, except that cygwin lets me build Marpa from the repo under windows to test patches.
11:10 rns After installing texlive and all its fonts. I tried to use cweb and Miktex under windows to build Marpa from the repo, but didn't succeed.
11:17 rns win-bash and msys and Gnuwin32 are all good if you manage make cweb and tex (via Miktex or otherwise) to work under windows to build Marpa (make releng)
11:20 rns One more thing, I has to install autoconf-archive under cygwin to build Marpa from the repo.

12:27 rns A thought: Now that libmarpa has its own repo, pulling tex-based stuff (mostly docs I think) out of that repo (like, e.g. *.c files) rather than (re-)building it as part of Marpa::R2 build looks like a good thing.
12:29 rns An obvious advantage would be that Marpa::R2 won't require tex to build that will make things simpler for windows users.

17:01 jeffreykegler I've uploaded Marpa::R2 2.091_000
17:02 jeffreykegler The big change is the new top-level interface, $slg->parse().  I've rewritten the landing page tutuorial for it -- you can see it used in the synopsis.
17:03 jeffreykegler This is not a release candidate -- the docs are not fully updated.
17:03 jeffreykegler Testing is appreciated.
19:36 jeffreykegler rns: thanks -- it will take me some time to absorb
19:36 jeffreykegler This education in what using Perl (and Marpa) is actually like in the Windows world is interesting.

21:08 jeffreykegler "New stuff being developed in/with Perl? Not like with Ruby, say, no."
21:09 jeffreykegler I try to keep my publicly expressed level of exasperation down, but in effect most in the Perl world seem to agree ...
21:10 jeffreykegler The fact that Perl has Marpa and other languages do not does not register -- which is understandable if you're a Ruby or Python guy.
21:11 jeffreykegler I found this link via chromatic's tweet: https://twitter.com/chromatic_x/status/503645887407464448
22:15 jeffreykegler On another note:
22:16 jeffreykegler I just had a big, big surprise -- one of the highly unusual positive kind.
22:17 jeffreykegler I installed Strawberry Perl and, on a whim, typed "cpan Marpa::R2", then leaned backed to watch for the (I assumed) inevitable error message.
22:17 jeffreykegler (I hadn't installed any of the GnuWin32 or other pure DOS utilities, just the Cygwin stuff.)
22:18 jeffreykegler Anyway, to my shock, it installed perfectly.
22:19 jeffreykegler I guess it must be find all the Cygwin stuff, and that stuff must be working from a Windows command prompt.
22:19 jeffreykegler Or is the Strawberry CPAN doing incrementing shrewd things under the hood?
22:19 jeffreykegler *incrementing -> *incredibly

22:56 ronsavage Marpa::R2 2.091_000 is not yet visible on MetaCPAN.

23:31 jeffreykegler ronsavage: On metacpan the title line looks something like this --
23:33 jeffreykegler Jeffrey Kegler / v Marpa--R2-2.090000  25++
23:34 jeffreykegler where the "v" represents a small black down arrow.  Click on it and it reveals a lot of other versions of Marpa::R2, 2.091_000 among them.
23:35 jeffreykegler MetaCPAN switched how they do things some time ago, and if you're used to their former layout, it really does seem to hide the developer's version very deeply
