05:51 rns jeffreykegler: re http://irclog.perlgeek.de/marpa/2014-12-07#i_9771622 — :) Absolutely welcome. BTW, the asker selected the Marpa answer as the best.

17:45 jeffreykegler rns: re http://irclog.perlgeek.de/marpa/2014-12-08#i_9773395 -- the system stackoverflow uses makes the person who asks the question judge, jury and executioner, but nonetheless in practice it seems to work very well.
17:46 jeffreykegler You don't see people on stackoverflow lecturing the questioner on the question he should be asking as so often elsewhere, and it seems to keep things focused.
17:58 jeffreykegler And actually, this question: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/27340329/c-library-that-takes-a-bnf-definition-and-parses-accordingly
18:00 jeffreykegler "I have some BNF.  Where's the program that will turn it into a parser?" is pretty much exactly the question I asked someone perhaps around 1980.
18:01 jeffreykegler My answer was that "Jeffrey, it's more complicated you think think", and I was pointed at yacc.
18:02 jeffreykegler To which my response was "there has got to be a better way"
18:02 jeffreykegler That's what got me going on this line of inquiry.
18:03 jeffreykegler And 3 decades later, Marpa is the result.

18:53 jdurand_ If I push to CPAN the SQL stuff, do you think prefer MarpaX::Languages::SQL:AST (that can have multiple SAL standard derivation inside), or directly MarpaX::Languages::SQL2003:AST - I take that MarpaX::Languages::SQL::2003:AST (well, anything with 2003 in it) is not a standard perl name - oh well, I am not sure
18:54 jdurand_ "do you prefer"
19:02 jeffreykegler jdurand_: I don't know the audience and the issues all that well, so I am inclined to leave the choice to you ...
19:02 jeffreykegler or perhaps others who think they do understand.
19:02 jeffreykegler One thing I would point out, however ...
19:03 jeffreykegler If you go with MarpaX::Languages::SQL2003::AST, and that turns out to not be a good choice, ...
19:03 jeffreykegler it is easier to change your mind than the other way around.
19:04 jeffreykegler I don't know how important that is, but I point it as a consideration to take into account.
19:25 jdurand_ jeffreykegler: thx

20:48 ronsavage jdurand: A package should be able to use 2003 as a namespace component. I remember a comment on the Perl Porters mailing list years ago when ever 0 (yes, zero) was found to not work, so Perl itself was changed to allow that. Sorry, but I'm too lazy to check....................
