00:09 pczarn Kollos is an interesting learning experience, but I'm getting overwhelmed by the current ones
00:11 pczarn thanks for all insight.
00:42 jeffreykegler hobbs: re the upcoming FLOSS weekly, I know most speakers disclaim that "I am not a Marpa expert"
00:42 jeffreykegler Do what you like, but be aware that IMHO you are a Marpa expert.
00:43 jeffreykegler You might compare Perl.  You could call yourself a Perl expert without knowing every Perl module, even every important one ...
00:43 jeffreykegler without knowing every trick for using Perl, even some highly useful ones, ...
00:44 jeffreykegler and without a comprehensive knowledge of the Perl internals.
00:44 jeffreykegler Marpa is big enough so the same broad definition of "expert" that you'd use for Perl is appropriate for Marpa
01:17 hobbs jeffreykegler: I'm not sure if I'm that good, either, but that doesn't mean I'm not confident enough to give it a try
01:18 hobbs jeffreykegler: meanwhile if there's any material you want to give me or anything you want me to emphasize, feel free. Otherwise I'll just be trolling the docs and your blog to get things fresh in my mind.
01:19 jeffreykegler At this point, you're an experienced hand at giving Marpa talks.
01:19 jeffreykegler I assume you saw my notes on your last one.
01:19 hobbs I think so, were they here?
01:19 jeffreykegler I put them on Github, I think -- let me look.
01:20 jeffreykegler https://gist.github.com/jeffreykegler/9d888a38cc939faa3833
01:21 hobbs got it, thanks
01:21 hobbs no, I don't think I'd seen that.
01:21 jeffreykegler Btw, Jose in Barcelona asked me for pointers on giving a talk ...
01:22 jeffreykegler and I directed him to your video, and those notes in the link I just pasted.
01:23 jeffreykegler Skimming those notes now, there's no comment I would change and nothing I would add.
01:26 hobbs Pacing was difficult when I wrote a good part of the talk 12 hours before giving it. I expected it to be a *disaster*, so I'm glad it turned out reasonably
01:27 hobbs the part you said went too fast, I tore some explanation out of because I wasn't sure if I had the time :)
01:27 hobbs turns out it could have stayed
01:27 hobbs (also, I just rush when I get excited)
01:28 jeffreykegler Yes, I understood about the circumstances, and so focused on the material ...
01:28 jeffreykegler which as I said was almost perfect.

01:29 jeffreykegler If I gave the talk I  expect the audience's impression would be that the whole thing was too fast and incomprehensible. :-)
01:30 hobbs Haha
01:30 jeffreykegler And, as I said before, it was very pleasant to discover that someone had read a lot of my old blog posts and actually understood what I was saying.
01:32 hobbs I think the story I want to tell for FLOSS Weekly will mostly be one about conflict between comprehensible-but-inefficient and optimized-but-confusing parsers, with the punch being that computers are good enough today that we should be able to have both
01:33 jeffreykegler Sounds good.
01:33 hobbs Maybe throw in an analogy with high level compilers and clang's really nice improvements in error reporting
01:34 jeffreykegler You're a better judge of the kind of analogy that would work for a large audience than I am.
01:36 jeffreykegler So you are thinking of reworking the material a bit?
01:46 hobbs It's a different format so I think that's unavoidable
01:46 hobbs Of course I can still steal from myself
02:00 jeffreykegler hobbs: Good luck!
02:00 jeffreykegler AFK
02:02 hobbs Thank you

05:35 ronsavage Also, over the next 24 hrs I'll be writing an article about Text  :: Balanced :: Marpa, which shows again how Marpa can take a common and awkward problem and make it easy.
07:16 ronsavage Here is the first draft: http://savage.net.au/Ron/html/Fancy.Matching.of.Delimited.Text.html
