02:10 jeffreykegler The occasion for my noticing Perl's policy on declaring dependencies on core modules is the recent elimination of Module::Build from the list of core modules.
02:11 jeffreykegler Marpa::R2 uses Module::Build.
02:12 jeffreykegler Marpa started on CPAN when Perl 5.10 was released, and the big features, heavily promoted, were Module::Build inclusion, and smart matching.
02:13 jeffreykegler Smart matching already has been re-classifed from core to "experimental", so the bottom line for the 5.10.0 release was really not good.

02:14 jeffreykegler I am working on Kollos, the Lua/Marpa combination which is the future of Marpa
02:15 jeffreykegler The Kollos module for Lua will include lots of C code *and* lots of Lua code and, after much study, I determined that the best thing to do was study luaposix.
02:16 jeffreykegler Luaposix is a semi-official Lua module which provides POSIX support, and it has lots of C code and lots of Lua code.
02:16 jeffreykegler Alas, Luaposix, has solved this problem in 3 different ways over the years, some of them quite complex.
02:17 jeffreykegler I settled, not on luaposix's current way of doing things, but on the next-to-most-recent, which is relatively simple:
02:19 jeffreykegler There a C library, named posix_c, and a Lua library, named "posix".  The Lua library pulls in the C library with a "require" statement, and the application has only to "require posix", or in our case, "require kollos"
