09:32 lwa In the Reddit thread on YEAP, someone tried to write Python bindings for libmarpa but gave up:
09:32 lwa “I tried with libmarpa for a weekend but gave up because the organization of source code was... interesting. For example, the main marpa.h file has to be generated by concatenating several other files; all that mess made auto-generating cffi bindings difficult.” – https://www.reddit.com/r/programming/comments/3o1otz/yet_another_earley_parser_yaep/cvtvksa
09:33 lwa This actually echoes my experience with the Marpa code: some time ago I was looking into the Marpa::R2 and Kollos Git repos, but found the repo layout and code organization a bit unusual. Too unusual to do anything with it. A bit of documentation on repo layout and getting a dev environment set up (i.e.: from a freshly cloned repo, how do I run the tests?) might lower the barrier for early adopters or potential contributors

15:25 Idiosyncrat lwa: The intent with Libmarpa is that the repo will generate an autoconf tarball, and the tarball code will be what is wrappered.
15:26 Idiosyncrat The tarball does not have any of the literate programming stuff, etc -- it's just C files and it's build is standard autoconf.
15:27 Idiosyncrat I'll note that Libmarpa is really not "packagized" -- there's not even a release discipline, except via Marpa::R2
15:28 Idiosyncrat Perhaps somebody could take on to do that -- create a packagized Libmarpa downstream from my repo.
15:29 Idiosyncrat The Libmarpa repo should be very stable now.

15:42 rns lwa: re http://irclog.perlgeek.de/marpa/2015-10-10#i_11352461 -- assuming cffi is of python, here is how it can be used to bind libmarpa -- https://github.com/rns/libmarpa-bindings/blob/master/python/libmarpa.py -- based on koo7's work.

16:08 Idiosyncrat The rule about "swearwords" applies only to this IRC channel and the Google group
16:09 Idiosyncrat If what you say on reddit is OK with reddit, it's fine with us.
16:13 Idiosyncrat For those who don't know, talk on this channel should be able to pass the most Fascist of Wikipedia's filters
16:14 Idiosyncrat This standard is, frankly, kind of ridiculous, but my reasoning is that some people have to access the Internet through filters ...
16:14 Idiosyncrat and, given our subject matter, we have no reason to close our content off from them.

22:48 ronsavage ceriwen, rns: Re http://irclog.perlgeek.de/marpa/2015-10-10#i_11353762. Firstly, the email to Ian bounced, but the email to the other author - Sean Seefried - got a positive response re Marpa. He also did not know the whereabouts of Ian, but will forward my email if and when he finds him.
