16:29 idiosyncrat_ My more negative posts, like my last one pointing out that most current parsing methods are inadequate to parse a subset of the language used by a bird with a brain half the size of a peanut ...
16:30 idiosyncrat_ tend not to take off quickly.
16:31 idiosyncrat_ Certainly, if your working method when you need to parse is to use one of those methods, it is not fun and exciting reading.
16:32 idiosyncrat_ But they apparently do have an influence, which if slower, might be bigger.
18:52 VsyachePuz idiosyncrat_: It's not takeoff by another reason. Each you post is about how good is your marpa is, and how bad everything else. We all already know that (And I found posts from 2006 and earlier which discuss Earley algorithm on dotnet). To have valuable posts it is better to explain something or explain how to you your library
18:53 VsyachePuz Right now it looks like spam - "use marpa", "use marpa". And nothing more
19:19 idiosyncrat_ VsyachePuz: interesting point.
19:19 idiosyncrat_ And I did exactly what you suggest for a long time.
19:20 idiosyncrat_ The response by most people was to say, "Marpa sounds interesting, but this other stuff is 'tried and true' "
19:23 idiosyncrat_ And it is "tried and true" in the sense that if you use yacc or PEG to do your grammar, and it takes forever, you can only make it work by altering the spec, and your final result will be anywhere from difficult to impossible to enhance in the future ...
19:23 idiosyncrat_ that's known to be state of the art -- you won't get fired for it.
19:25 idiosyncrat_ So after years of 100% focus on the positive, cool stuff you can do with Marpa and how to do it ...
19:25 idiosyncrat_ I'm talking a bit about the negative side of the coin, and that is getting attention in places where Marpa was ignored before.
