03:05 idiosyncrat_ I restudied how to use EU::MM for a build with subdirectories, and redid the Marpa::R3 build accordingly.
03:05 idiosyncrat_ I've just uploaded the result to CPAN -- Marpa-R3-4.001_004
03:06 idiosyncrat_ The first 2 or 3 tests are in OK.
03:06 idiosyncrat_ In any case, I'
03:07 idiosyncrat_ m not sure there aren't regressions in this build -- platforms which now fail where they succeeded for earlier releases -- but I am more sure this is the way forward.
03:10 idiosyncrat_ OK!  Marpa::R3's first PASS on a FreeBSD build -- hopefully this is a sign of things to come

04:18 ronsavage shell$ perl Makefile.PL

04:18 ronsavage Checking if your kit is complete...
04:18 ronsavage Looks good

04:18 ronsavage Writing MYMETA.yml and MYMETA.json
04:18 ronsavage Subroutine MY::top_targets redefined at ./Makefile.PL line 49.
04:18 ronsavage Subroutine MY::postamble redefined at ./Makefile.PL line 67.

04:18 ronsavage Typemap typemap not found.

04:18 ronsavage Writing Makefile for Marpa::R3
04:18 ronsavage Writing MYMETA.yml and MYMETA.json
04:19 ronsavage All tests pass and it installed under Debian 8.4.
04:32 idiosyncrat_ ronsavage: "Subroutine MY::top_targets redefined at ./Makefile.PL line 49."
04:33 idiosyncrat_ This is a harmless warning.  I silenced one of these, but didn't bother with the other 3 at this point.  Some day I'll silence the rest.
04:34 idiosyncrat_ "Typemap typemap not found" -- another harmless warning -- I don't keep the typemap in the usual place.  There's probably a way to silence this, but to date I have not bothered.

04:40 rns idiosyncrat: just built from Marpa-R3-4.001_004 successfully under windows xp and windows 7 and cygwin.
04:41 rns idiosyncrat, ronsavage: seen the same warning under cygwin.
04:52 rns AFK, will backlog.

04:58 idiosyncrat_ I would expect that same set of warnings on all platforms -- the "redefined" warnings are Perl warnings, and the "typemap" warning is from EU::MM.
04:59 idiosyncrat_ ronsavage, rns: Thanks for looking at the build so closely.
05:13 idiosyncrat_ ronsavage, rns: Thanks again!
05:13 idiosyncrat_ Good night!

13:02 shadowpaste "rns" at 217.168.150.38 pasted "proposed patch to fix freebsd builds" (25 lines) at http://fpaste.scsys.co.uk/512183
13:02 rns The above is a patch to fix that based on my expreience with nmake under windows.
13:03 rns AFK, will backlog.

14:46 idiosyncrat_ I just cleaned up those warnings.
14:48 idiosyncrat_ It's in the latest commit on Github and will be in the next CPAN release.
14:55 idiosyncrat_ Still problems on freebsd: http://matrix.cpantesters.org/?dist=Marpa-R3+4.001_004
14:55 idiosyncrat_ That one PASS last night was the only one.

21:00 idiosyncrat_ I just saw this -- both I and my Internet connectivity have been in and out today.
21:02 idiosyncrat_ joined #marpa
21:02 idiosyncrat_ That fix certainly matches the symptom.
21:03 idiosyncrat_ Why would "make test_dynamic" be invoked on freebsd, but not elsewhere?

21:28 idiosyncrat_ rns: The reason I ask is that I prefer not to just respond to crisis, but to understand what's going on --
21:28 idiosyncrat_ for example, in this case there may be other targets would should be dealt with in addition to "test_dynamic"
21:29 idiosyncrat_ I'd like to understand as much as is possible here, ...
21:29 idiosyncrat_ although in this case there is no real alternative to going ahead with your fix.
21:30 idiosyncrat_ Btw, make it a pull request and the git history will give you credit for it. :-)

22:28 ronsavage VsyachePuz: Re: http://irclog.perlgeek.de/marpa/2016-05-05#i_12439082. Understand. I've just been looking at many pages at fsf.org and can't find a street address anywhere.
22:28 ronsavage The source of GPL V 3 is at https://www.gnu.org/licenses/gpl.txt and just uses their web address, and that's what I'm going to use from now on.
22:35 idiosyncrat_ Wrt the FSF address, when I've had questions about the LGPL questions, I've contacted them.
22:36 idiosyncrat_ My theory is that, when it comes to ensuring that an FSF license sticks, you don't have to be more vigilant than the FSF. :-)
22:37 idiosyncrat_ Last time I had a worry that something was going on that weakened the license, and was wondering how big a deal to make of it, I contacted them.  In that case, they didn't express a lot of concern, so I felt comfortable in letting the matter drop.
22:38 idiosyncrat_ You might contact them asking which address to use, and how vigilant it is necessary to be about keeping the address up to date.
